Always a great pleasure to watch little steam locos busy in beautiful scenery. Like this model (6:24) which demonstrates 'all a steam loco really needs'. - Heinz
Austin, loved the telephone box (well spotted/included), excellent sequences in the gusty weather very ably portraying the ethos of this lovely railway and the attendant locos. This is also reminiscent of a railway holiday in the late 80s (or maybe very early 90s) when the train frequently stopped alongside the lake to allow most members of the party in turn a short footplate ride standing perilously close to the firebox. I don't remember the loco identity, but I think it was a red one! Kind regards, Bob.
Many thanks Bob. The railway does have a nice selection of locos and passes through lovely scenery. It was my first visit but I'll definitely go again and hopefully catch some of that rare Welsh sunshine!
Despite the stormy conditions Austin, you've done an excellent job of capturing this Gala on the Bala Lake Railway...They put a great deal of effort to provide a wide range of services, and also brought in some interesting locos for the event....Bob
Thanks Bob, had hoped to visit over the weekend when there was more going on but the weather wasn't brilliant. It was my first visit and very enjoyable
A great visit, for me as well. Pity the weather could not have been less windy/cloudy. Still, a thoroughly enjoyable piece of film. The scenery and that ex-GPO phone box! More please. del.
Thanks, shame about the weather as you say. I'd intended to visit over the weekend but the forecast was worse although there were more locos in use. The phone box was great...I want one!
The Quarry Hunslets are one of my favourite types of loco, but Marchlyn is a pretty little thing as well. I love the minimalistic halt at 6:55. I'm glad to see (reflected in the windows of the train as it departed) that everywhere must have a Routemaster bus is being adhered to.
Marchlyn is a nice little loco and I'm sure the crews welcomed the enclosed cab in the conditions over the weekend! The Routemaster was used on Saturday and Sunday to convey passengers between Bala town and the station
Great stuff. I last visited a couple of years ago It will be a big day for the railway when they open their extension and new town centre station. I understand some work has started on this.
Thank you. It will certainly raise the profile of the railway when they can reach Bala town. I'm not sure any work has been started but the Bala Lake Railway Trust is trying to raise funds for the extension. I'm sure both the town and the railway would benefit
Great video Austin. We have not been there for sometime. Thanks for the memories. We were expecting some onboard footage from an open truck . Very interesting viewing. Kind regards C&A
Hi, I help to run the social media channels for the Bala Lake Railway, and we’re hoping to run a “virtual gala” on Facebook in a few weeks time. I’ve just been looking through UA-cam for ideas for content and found your excellent video and I was wondering if we could possibly use it as part of the day? We would give you full credit of course. All the best, Ben

Thanks Heinz, this railway does have a lovely selection of these ex quarry locomotives, they may be small but are certainly powerful
Looked like a nice little event, love the little quarry hunslets, this line is a must visit next time in wales
Yes, this was a quieter day than over the weekend but nevertheless, very enjoyable. The line is well worth a visit

Excellent coverage of the Gala Austin. Loved the telephone box. Regards, Dave.
Cheers Dave, the telephone box was lovely. Obviously somebody at the railway has green fingers

Wonderful shots Austin, having seeing this I can't wait for Friday to come around. The shot at 3.38 is my favourite. Regards JamesandPeter
Thanks James, yes, it's going to be a wonderful weekend

Such a cute railway. I like the phone box too! :-)

Thanks, it was my first visit and would like to go again. It was a tad breezy for riding in the open wagons unlike the Harz!
Really great video, thumbs up + sub. Greetings from Denmark :)
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed the video

Yes, no problem at all Ben, thank you. I'll look forward to both the 'virtual gala' and also the day when I can visit the line again
Thank you very much! Cheers, Ben
