Stan was my “brother”. I sang on his Turnaround album and was there when he recorded the Fogarty’s cove and Between the breaks albums…eerie to hear his and Garnet’s voices so long ago just a couple of weeks before he died …
With Ariel Rogers' permission, I took Stan Rogers' epic song, the Mary Ellen Carter and expanded it into a 44 chapter novel, just recently released and available at Amazon.com (search by the title: Rise Again - The Story of the Mary Ellen Carter). Still looking for a Canadian publishing house willing to publish and distribute in Canada. Jim Cain
Another show I remember. When I came back from Northwestern in the fall of 1983 my ex sent me a tape of this show, which was much better quality than the tape I'd made of the Chicago show off the Midnight Special. No idea where that tape is now.
If you REALLY love Stan Rogers, and his brother Garnet Rogers get to your Library or favorite bookseller and acquire his autobiography.."NIGHT DRIVE", the excellent narrative of 2 folk performers touring and performing and enjoying their life on the road!!!
Got it already from Garnet, signed. Garnet knows us well. So to respond back to you, if you REALLY love Stan Rogers, get Jim Cain's book, a novel Rise Again, about a fictional raising of the Mary Ellen Carter, approved by Ariel. Its only on Amazon in the US NOT IN CANADA! on Amazon.CA. How weird is that. And yes I have my booklet of Stan Rogers stamps. As for Stan, as you read in Garnet's book, he was headed for trouble, if he did not change his life style. But a very sad lost over all. WMD
Great tape! Thanks for posting. That said, please check the posting for the Harvard Part 1 tape. It starts off in Harvard but soon switches to a different performance.
www.setlist.fm/setlist/stan-rogers/1983/harvard-university-cambridge-ma-33f6b8fd.html Hi, thanks for letting me know the above, but I think all is fine. Here is the actual set list from Setlist.fm. I think I heard what you might mean, about a different concert coming on, as I did hear a few seconds of silence from the intro clapping to song? At the 2:41 mark? if so, this is the correct concert. Sometimes in concert recordings, the taper might of done something, a edit? But who knows, it is the correct show. Again, thanks for letting me know about this.
Description of Wireton lake and guys hilarious-tupperware boat and all 5he guys looking like Greg Allan. Also Canada Council of Arts, etc. Stan's descriptions as good as music in this one. Thanx much again west. Maryland.
So incredibly beautiful. His great lakes songs are some of his best storytelling. White squall should be preserved for years to come

I just picked up a vinyl copy of Turnaround. Very cool to see someone who worked on it!
There are very few singers or song writers who can stir the soul like this man, 'rise again' indeed.
