MusicWorks - Grade 4
At the height of the jazz age, each of the major swing bands had their own “signature” sound, immediately recognizable to their enthusiastic fans. This composition puts these various sounds and rhythms together in homage to a vibrant and innovative time in American music. This piece is a fun way to teach your ensemble to swing and get your audience tapping their toes! Commissioned by the West Vancouver (BC) Youth Band - Douglas Macaulay, director - in tribute to “Canada's King of Swing”, Dal Richards.

I’m a clarinet player and this was one of my favorite concert pieces😂I loved playing it, it’s just so smooth
I think of a casino when I hear this song.
Jello Sauce yessss😂
Honestly, same. I'm thinking of either a high stakes night or a chase scene in a casino
The Concert Band I play with performed this at our Spring Concert. Great finale number, and now I can say I've played jazz timpani! LOL
Hey! Timpani gang!
Sounds like a mash up of The Incredibles and Monsters Inc.
i get the monsters inc thing bc at 3:00 it kinda sounds like sing sing sing which was in monster’s inc!
@@savfleur13352 Sing sing sing was never in Monster's inc sorry
Look up the Monster Inc's Scare Floor theme
I’m doing this song in symphonic band as a part of my Spring Concert. My favorite part is 1:36 to 3:10
Woah same.
Mine is 0-4:58
Bassoon gets a fairly fun part for once! I don't have to count rests forever like all the other songs we play!
Same - ngl the boys and I occasionally just play small parts of the song to get each other's attention and just jam.. It's pretty sick
i watched a community band perform this song last night and i’ve been constantly thinking about 1:36 and 3:10 ... i’ve never been so hyped listening to a jazz song before
Reminds us of Sing Sing Sing...
Me too!
This is why clarinets should be in jazz band
Nah they got replace by the saxophone also there mostly in dixieland for a reason.
Feed so what's this reason
@@Daniel-hx1yu well sax replaced the clarinet.
SAY IT LOUDER FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACKK CLARINETS ARE AWESOME
Clarinets are generally a secondary instrument for saxophones in jazz big bands (like piccolo is to flute), so while they're not part of the basic big band structure, they still get a bunch of use even outside of dixieland
i play the trombone and we played this in my concert band and it was just amazing!
Trombone gang
That beginning is perfection
why did i think this was gonna be wake me up before you go go
Loved playing this!
1:50 THOUGHH REEE
Played this for honor band at asbury university in 2018. Please some else tell me you were there

Yes that middle section is very 'Film Noir'. Sort of reminds me of a Philip Marlowe movie...
1:36

Intonation
Marques Mountain
Berta Common
OMG 3:10 is the best part
So this is where Pixar stole the style.

?
from fortnite
You can’t say I’m wrong when this sounds like it would be from a really old spy movie
Am I the only one who heard a Rhapsody in Blue reference at 1:27?
Around 2:00 there’s a little Porgy and Bess, as well.
Max Behymer Yesssss thank you!!!!! I’m not the only 😂👏
Yes i was looking for this comment 😂😂
Currently a Junior in high school and I just have to say, the middle section that starts at 1:35 is something else. Gave me chills just playing it in my band(I play the tenor sax). I’ve never had a band piece just sound so, cool! We’re playing this again in a few weeks for the dance gala the dance company at my school puts on and I’m so excited to play this with people dressed like flappers in front of me, tap dancing!

I was a Junior last year when we played this in Band. I'm a Percussionist, and I played Snare Drum and Floor Tom and it was so fun to play and have one of our other Band directors to do the Trumpet Solo
The concert band I was in played this song, and I absolutely loved playing it. I’m also a flute player and I love jazzy type music
my symphonic winds ensemble can play this and it sounds amazing
same mate
@@jessicasayce5944 :D

It sounds sorta like a part from angel eyes
This kinda sounds like the theme for The Incredibles
If was used in the movie a leage of their own

Kingsman when they are in the bar fight
I played this on Horn and it was so much fun
I was going to play this song for my high school Concert performance, but covid cut it short before we could play it. I am so disappointed that I will never be able to play this song again. Best Jazz song ever in my opinion, French Horn going hard.
What a shame😢
You may get to some day- there’s always community band!
This song helped my high school’s concert band get 1st place in a concert band festival with 15 other bands! Thank you for the great music!
This is a masterpiece.
im doing this in my alumni band along side "SINATRA!"
We’re playing this in advanced band and it’s super fun

Adrian Arzate wow! This is really advanced for sixth grade

Drummer Boy y would I lie about this?
Yes
I find that really hard. This is grade 4 music. Grade 4 and up is usually for college. I think. I'm homeschooled. So I wouldn't know.
they should play this in the Moulin Rouge in Paris
