      Btw, should not there be a contradiction at the end, when Sarah sees the electric field of Adam being stronger in the perpendicular direction ? I mean, Adam should perceive all negative charges going away at the same speed from an electric positive point (while Sarah does not) .
      But once Adam stops moving, Sarah will expect that the electric charges in Adam's vessel will have moved differently depending on if they went perpendicular to the vessel's movement. So who will be right then ?

    • @EugeneKhutoryansky
      @EugeneKhutoryansky  4 роки тому +3

      En théo, Sarah will also see length contraction. If Adam sees electrically charged particles arranged in a sphere, then Sarah sees the electrically charged particles arranged in an oval. Also, keep in mind that the way we calculate the acceleration of each charged particle from a given force is different than in classical physics, as I described at the very end of the video.

      @@En_theo So Einstein thinks (or imagines) he can be as fast as a charged particle, moving within an electric current...and I'm not sober ?? Wtf did he smoke in that pipe of his ? Time dilation, space bending, these are Alice in wonderland concepts. And so is this "experiment". How can anyone conceive or take seriously such fantasies as "science" is mind boggling. You cant do science by imagining impossible experiments. You have to actually do them ! So how exactly do you (unknowingly) achieve the speed of a charged particle, and go along with it, so that it appears stationary to you ??? Oh, I know, you go into the rabbit hole, and make yourself tiny, as tiny as a particle. And then you talk to the Clock so that he can slow time so you can catch the current, and then to the magic cat so that he hypnoties you and you forget everything...and then you go to dinner and surprise, you see two charged particles sitting next to you at the table. Well at least give them some tea, hatman !

      True, imho we could even consider that electromagnetic waves are just tiny gravitational waves. The repulsive effect could be then explained in the same way that some objects on water can be attracted by waves instead of being repelled if these waves have a specific frequency.
      The inside of the gravitational wave would then act like a wormhole, explaining the instantaneous collapsing of the wave, resolving the "spooky" action at distance.

      This video is not the typical connection between relativity and electromagnetism, for that you need to learn about the electromagnetic tensor. This on the other hand is more of a mathematical way to explain the paradox, but it is not lorentz invariant, and relies on the invention of fictitious forces.

  • @Bob-tz1zp
    @Bob-tz1zp 2 роки тому +2

    The first 1:20 was basically a summary of why I dislike anything to do with relativity, it relies too much on what some hypothetical person in an impossible situation will see vs someone else, the natural universe doesn't care about the perspective of humans. We may not at first understand why, and have to work out a new mechanic or principle to explain the trends around us. E=mc² is constant because nature just works and that's how we explain it. nature doesn't exist because some deity felt like doin arithmetic.

      **TRICKY THING ABOUT THIS**
      The girl's reference frame supposedly witnessed electric charges in motion in the conductor.
      And the guy's reference frame witnessed no motion in the conductor.
      The tricky thing is, from BOTH of their reference frames, they failed to consider the conductor reference frame.
      If they had, here's what they'd have seen:
      1) the girl would have looked *AT* the conductor and seen it moving. But because another inertial reference frame -- inside the conductor -- is present, had she not failed to notice the conductor's reference frame, she would have said this: "From my reference frame, the conductor is moving. But also from my reference frame, I notice that there is no movement in the conductor reference frame and thus no moving charges."
      2) Likewise, the guy would have said: "The conductor is not moving in my reference frame. And in the conductor's reference frame, nothing is moving -- no moving charges."
      It's one thing to account for all reference frames when trying to determine motion. It's another to say "I'm only going to consider my reference frame and no one elses."
      The girl's failure to consider the conductor's own internal inertial reference frame would mean one (or more) of several things:
      1) she doesn't know from electron/charge flow in conductors, and thinks that if she sees a moving wire, BAM that means current is flowing (which is not necessarily true)
      2) she is not a STEM graduate
      3) given (2), she has no business providing commentary about Relativity
      If you fail to considers the truth about the reference frames in your particular situation -- oh dear lord.
      It brings to mind some dialog from Star Wars: A New Hope:
      UNCLE OWEN:
      "Well, he'd better have those units
      in the south range repaired be midday
      or there'll be hell to pay!"
      .
      .

      @@EugeneKhutoryansky That is an assumption from math based on a false premise. Because you believe nothing can go faster than light you make that assumption. Frame dragging distorts spacetime more than projected so how can you make that assumption. Gravity probe b was able to measure the distortion. You have nothing based in fact to make that assumption only accepted assumptions. This effect has been proven to be stronger than projected most likey because of magnetic and gravity coupling under the right conditions so how do you account for this. Because something is popular and accepted do not make it currect to the point at which it is impossible to alter it. You have not taken into account superconductivity or spacetime compression.

I have never heard of this "new gravity" before in my life, and to me it seems kind of artificial.

    • @EugeneKhutoryansky
      @EugeneKhutoryansky  7 років тому +21

      Neither the traditional nor the new gravitational fields actually exist, as this is really a curvature of space-time. Thinking of it as fields helps give us an intuitive understanding of the effects of gravity in cases where all objects are moving slowly relative to the speed of light and where there are no strong gravitational fields present. In particular, the effects of the "new" gravitational field are a way to approximate the effects of the elements of the stress-energy tensor other than T00. By the way, electric and magnetic fields also don't actually exist, as this is really the exchange of photons between charged particles.

    And since Newton's law is identical in form to Coulomb's, it is inevitable that some sort of gravitomagnetic force with corresponding Maxwell equations must hold approximately.

    Nicely explained and illustrated! Although you didn't state it explicitly, this shows that the existence of electric fields, together with the principal of special relativity, *require* the existence of magnetic fields.
    And you showed that the same is true of gravitation, at least in the non-general-relativistic limit. I don't see it immediately, but I believe this line of reasoning can be adapted to show the "frame-dragging" effect of masses in motion.

      Thanks for the compliment. And yes, frame dragging is the result of the gravitational effects described in this video.

      @@EugeneKhutoryansky these apparent affects are the result of frame-dragging, not the other way around. this is not even a lorentz invariant model, it is a hack.

    A nicely illustrated thought experiment. I think AE would approve. This helps to see when we move away from the static picture of gravity there must be more stuff going on and just looking at moving with constant velocity introduces stuff analogous to what's seen from a charge moving with constant velocity is important insight. Thanks for the vid and effort to make it.

    Albert Einstein said: "Everything is vibration" But if this is true if everything is just a form of energy vibration then there should be a process where new vibrations come into existence and other ceased to exist. Also this process should be able to explain why we all have a future that is always uncertain and interactive relative to our actions with a past that is always unchangeable and only really existing as a memory in the mind of the individual. Such a process has to be a physical continuum that is unfolding at the smallest unit of vibration energy the light quanta of quantum mechanics. Therefore it is unfolding photon oscillation by photon oscillation forming a great dance of energy exchange with new photon oscillations continuously coming in to existence.

    Electrostatics and magnetostatics suggest electric and magnetic fields could be separate fields. Why we have to consider them as single EM field. They could be separate entangled fields which move in tandem at right angle.

    In Kaluza-Klein theory, electric charge is just momentum in the fifth, compactified dimension, right? The repulsion of like charges is in line with the gravitomagnetic repulsion of parallel streams of matter, because charge is just matter streaming along the fifth dimension. But how then can electric repulsion overcome gravitational attraction, while the gravitomagnetic repulsion of parallel streams of matter moving in a noncompact direction cannot do that? Is there an intuitive explanation for that?

    Oh man this brings new revelation. "New gravity" fields exist just as magnetic fields do? Maybe we are unable to observe its effect as its effect is negligible for some reason.

    • @EugeneKhutoryansky

    I have an idea for a video. It would be about the fundamentals of electromagnetic interaction (QED) incluiding the part when particles produce and absorb photons, so it would also mix up with relativity and QM. Then, you could also explain how electromagnetic interaction is the main source of friction, tension and other seemingly unconservative forces. Mostly all main topics of your chan would be invoolved
