MTV Latin had like a behind the scenes exclusive when the music video came out. The director wanted Shakira to have like a metaphorical dance of rebirth or freedom. So, in the beginning shots of her apartment you’ll notice that everything is covered up in plastic and she has painters tools lying around. Supposedly she was going to repaint her apartment black, and that paint is what she is wearing. There’s even a moment where you see her cover her face in the black paint. I personally don’t think the metaphor is very clear. So I don’t blame you for not getting the black paint thing.
