    Ouch that looked like it hurt, hope it heals nicely. Good review and it really shows how even the cheaper end is reasonable these days. Though it will be interesting to know how the monitor arm stands up over time.

    Wow, that's kind of funny as the same thing literally almost happened to me with one of these gas monitor arms!! On my first IT job ever, I had never used or installed one of these before and a client was asking me to quickly remove the monitor from it. I didn't know what I was doing and under time pressure, with no instruction manual, and the assumption that it's easy/intuitive, I just unscrewed it, and when I removed the last one and lifted the monitor up, the arm with the mount sprang right up an inch or less away from my face as nothing was holding it down anymore... would've hit me in the nose or eye but I reacted just quickly enough. That scared the shit out of me and I didn't want to mess with one of these for a while after. Glad I'm not the only one. But also that does suck and looks painful.

    Hey there! Thanks for sharing your experience with the Suptec MD8 monitor arm. It's always interesting to find affordable options on Amazon. Your detailed review gave a good insight into its functionality and some of the quirks it comes with. Safety glasses are definitely a must when handling these!
    I'm curious, though, how has it been holding up over time? Has the monitor arm maintained its stability, or have you encountered any issues with it? Your long-term impressions would be valuable for potential buyers looking for a budget-friendly option.

    Looked like it hurt on that sharp corner of the bracket. When I got my Rode PSA1 I was surprised that it just sprung up without a microphone at the end to balance the springs. Didn't get hit in the face with it though fortunately.

    I've had this monitor arm mount for a year now and compared to my previous one and my other branded monitor arm it's working great and is much more stable. The only issues I have is that sliding the monitor on and off is a bit tricky as I have to tilt the monitor due to the shape of the back getting in the way a bit and I always forget which way to turn the screw/handle/whatever it's called to remove the mount from the desk lol. In fact, this video showed me which way to turn it to untighten it, so thank you for that.

    In that case it's better to lower down the pressure of the spring so when you put your monitor it falls down without any possible arm attack towards you hahahaha

    Looking to buy a dual monitor arm - I have a wood desk with a glass covering the top - will attaching an arm crack the glass? Are the reinforcements you can buy worth it?

    • @MyouKyuubi
      @MyouKyuubi 2 роки тому

      Torsion will probably cause it to crack or break at some point anyway. Get a real fking desk, bro, or be happy with the default monitor stands that monitors typically come with. :P

    • @GetUnwoke
      @GetUnwoke 2 роки тому

      if you have a glass desk you could use a cardboard/rubber cutout of the base to protect the glass top and use a small plank of wood on the bottom of the desk to make it more secure. that's what some guy on youtube using a haunuo hnd6 did to mount the dual arm to his Tresanti glass top desk.

    • @MyouKyuubi
      @MyouKyuubi 2 роки тому

      @@GetUnwoke Rubber won't remove torsion, it will only remove sharp-point-force. The problem isn't sharpness, because these monitor arm clamps typically HAVE rubber contact points already.
      The problem is torsion due to imbalanced weight distribution in the clamp applying twisting-force to the glass, AKA, torsion.

    • @GetUnwoke
      @GetUnwoke 2 роки тому

      @@MyouKyuubi shouldn't it be fine as long as it doesn't hang on the desk at an angle? Especially because their actual desk is wood and only the top sheet is glass so the bulk of the desk is stable.

    • @MyouKyuubi
      @MyouKyuubi 2 роки тому

      @@GetUnwoke " shouldn't it be fine as long as it doesn't hang on the desk at an angle?"
      No, monitor arms like these tend to wobble quite a bit, even if the monitors themselves are super light... This wobble causes constant variations in the torsion-force, which weakens the glass over time, and if this monitor located off-center, weight-wise, from the clamp in any way, that's constant-force torsion, which also weakens the glass over time. The wood panel for the bottom part of the clamp only takes care of the sharp-point force of the screw inside the clamp-hand... Something that would break your table simply by screwing the clamp on if you didn't use it.
      The glass might not break right away, but WILL break eventually over time, most likely in the first MONTH of use, because glass tables are not designed to withstand years of torsion... That's one of the two main weaknesses of glass tables/desks. That's why they have a tendency to break, seemingly out of nowhere, even though no clear impact to the table was made, because torsion finally breaks it due to messing up the glass' structural integrity.
      Glass is brittle, and not very flexible, so it can't handle sharp-points, or twisting motions... That's why busses and public transport vehicles like that typically have those pointed hammer-like things slotted in the ceiling, you can break the glass completely, by gently tapping them against the glass... And torsion has a similar effect, like a 1 milimeter bend in the glass, creates a single crack, and once that crack appears, the whole table turns into gravel, lol. :P
      That's WHY you get a desk with some manner of wood instead, if you intend to use a monitor arm like this, those are flexible, and don't break apart due to sharp-point force or torsion... They're cheaper too, and have much more design-options.
      Which is why i would highly advise anyone to stay away from glass desks for your PC, glass desks aren't suited for gaming, generally speaking.
