- In 2020, there were over 93,000 drug overdose deaths, and that record-breaking number continues to increase at an alarming rate. Relationship expert and radio host Dr. Laura Berman lost her son after he unknowlingly bought a fentanyl-laced pill on Snapchat. Now, she is fighting to alert parents of this hidden danger.

I had to listen AND save this discussion. My son Ben died last year at 24 from fentanyl poisoning. Society at large wants to say he OD'd and label him an addict when neither are true. I am so sorry Dr. Berman had to join this unimaginable "club". The Sanskrit word villomah, against the natural order, is as close as it gets for a descriptor. Thank you for giving yourself the grace and space to take action.

Hopefully high schools have speakers come and speak about this. Not enough people know about this horrific problem. Thank you Maria and Dr. Berman.
I've been told that the police can obtain a warrant in order to get the information about the Snapchat account holder. If Snapchat is presented with a legal warrant they are required by law to comply. Alternately, the family can file a lawsuit against Snapchat and the unnamed co-defendant for wrongful death of the person/child who made the purchase via Snapchat. During the discovery phase of the lawsuit, Snapchat would be required to produce this information.
