The secret to black tanks is to start with a good portion of water, at least 3-4 inches in the tank (after you empty and before you use) you can use a hose or the toilet flush valve to do this. Liquid prevents a lot of issues you should also dump often and not let sewage sit for long periods, sometimes people do that, and use a spray wand or if your trailer has a black tank flush hookup use that. I’ve never had issue with toilet paper I don’t use the RV type and I refuse to have a waste basket next to my toilet I don’t live in a third world country where the sewer doesn’t work. There is a lot to RV’ing and it takes time to learn I don’t use many campgrounds except to replenish fresh water and other stores and to clean and dump. I guess some people are squeamish about dumping waste. Great video though and as always good information.
Always remember water is your best friend when it comes to the black tank. We have never used additives in our black tank and never had smells.
Really good to know about Hypervent. Never seen such a well stocked Walmart. Ours probably has about a 1/3 of that stuff. They almost never restock so always out.
So glad I saw this video, mold is so unhealthy. I’ve seen many RV walk thru videos with the plywood base and no one ever mentions this issue. You would think something so simple, and important, would be a standard accessory. One more thing we’ve learned from watching you!👍
Can you do a video on a really long travel vs a fifth wheel the length of the travel trailer and explain why some people go for the long travel trailer over the fifth wheel?
We always shop Walmart for camping supplies. They are cheaper than rv stores for tp and tank stuff. Great info on the matress.
Sam Walton was a master at marketing. The whole principle behind his being the first to say that RVers were welcome to overnight was hinged on sales. By having RV supplies, they increase total sales. I never thought about moisture build up under the mattress. If raised "Old-school" you may still flip the mattress ever couple months but we have an air-mattress.
So glad you shared the bed vent because I am getting ready for winter and must have this because my moisture freezes in the winter. This is the one thing I wish I knew before I bought an RV.
Dehumidifier, the big one and can’t think of the name of it right off hand , has been getting great reviews from other tubers . It collects a lot of water and has a auto switch off when full so as not to over flow . In the smaller campers it might be a challenge for space if living full time like I’m going to but it’s defiantly worth it to combat this issue which can and will become a major one if not dealt with properly. Wish the industry would figure out a way to build one of these standard in the four season campers most especially so dumping it will become a none issue as well and it could just drain outside the camper sort of like a condensation drain and not eat up so much flor space, just a thought , one of the first mod I’m going to work on .
Saw a SRW F-350 on the highway in the same Ruby Red you have, you're right, that is a good looking color on a truck.
Thanks for the tip. I LOVE Walmart...since they allow overnight RV's..I shop there to say Thanks!
You could send me the leftover section you didn't use..lol.. Speaking of boats.. I usually recommend make your own non skid decking for the purpose of venting under the mattress, or putting in your cockpit.. .. Comes in 12 inch squares that snap together.. makes any size.. .. Works very well... and will not crush at all.. Comes in blue and white, black too ..
Ive been using Reflectix between the mattress and plywood board during my annual 5 month stays in central Texas during the winter. Seems to work great-no mold.
how is it holding up?
@@Jumpddwithus Great. No mold and warmer in winter.
So I was poking around UA-cam looking for dehumidifier information and stumbled across this video. I have been following your channel for the past six months soaking up priceless truck and towing information and once again you’ve been a wealth of knowledge for me with this product. Thanks again JD!😎
Use the rest of the roll for your dinette cushions etc. Good idea for a product.
I was just thinking about something and Bammm you said it. I won’t mention it but, it’s true what you said.
On another note: I’m thinking some of the floor underlayment designed to create an airspace under a surface flooring and concrete basement floor would work under the bed for airflow as well.
Never heard of that. Glad you showed us.
Hi BTBRV. I just wanted to mention an alternate product that provides excellent under-mattress ventilation as well as improved comfort. It's the Froli box-spring system from Nickle Atlantic, used by major manufacturers such as Winnebago. The independent flexible suspension elements help prevent pressure points while ensuring good air flow.
I bought the Froli for my RV and I love it. Good for preventing mold and good for your spine.
Great video. We’ve been full time for 3 years now and I feel stupid. Never thought about the mold issue under our mattress but this makes total sense. Ordering some today. Oh PS, we love Wallymart
Are you worried at all about the mattress, or the Hyper-vent sliding at all? Would it be prudent to pop a couple of staples into the plywood, or doesn't it move at all?
Very good information, I would have not thought about mold forming under the mattress. In my new Chaparral I did not like the splinters that were getting into the bottom of the mattress so I wrapped the plywood base with some inexpensive marine grade indoor/outdoor carpet. It looks much nicer than the unfinished plywood, but now you have me rethinking that.
I bet that hypervent actually makes for a cooler sleep experience. I'll definitely be purchasing one for myself. Thanks for another great video!
Nice job way to keep it simple factual and accurate. 👍👊😎
This is exactly the problems we were having. Thank you so much for providing this video.
That mattress seems awfully light. what kind of mattress is it? Looks like something I'd like to put in my RV instead of the massive and heavy king I have.
There's a more deluxe variant for getting air under your mattress - look at Frolisleepsystems.com. It's a European product, and it's essentially plastic "box springs" that go under your normal mattress. That gets you air circulation (it raises the mattress an inch or more) but also gets you a more comfortable sleeping experience. The RV focused variant is not that pricey, a few hundred bucks depending on the mattress size and how much you need,I believe. Hypervent is great for mold prevention, but it does nothing to increase your comfort.
When you cut the HyperVent to fit the mattress (queen), you have two pieces. Ques: Is it suggested to just butt the pieces together or could/should they be taped together (to make one piece under the mattress)? If taped, what does the mfg suggest? Hadn't checked out that much in the Walmart RV accessories/supplies area, but, will be doing that. Also, GREAT info on the HyperVent; hadn't thought about the possibility of mold growing under the mattress. Thanks! Be Safe!
00:28 Lower right corner of video; patio/camping rug tan/brown reversible.
I've had this rug (several actually - I use two when camping) for several years now.
50 bucks last I saw but well worth it. A plastic type weave; no pooling rain water.
9x12 large, but folds easily. The folds are 'impressed' so even when used for a length
of time they are still there to aid in folding. A three way fold length wise then accordion.
Comes with a strap/wrap/velcro carrying handle.
Brushes clean with a broom or quick wash with garden hose.
Weighs next to nothing.
As far as I can tell these are exclusive to WalMart.
Flying embers from a stout fire (is there any other?) WILL burn/melt it.
Use that one at home and buy another.
Just ordered some hypervent for my Minnie Winnie. $160 for a Queen after shipping to the Midwest. I don’t have a mold problem, but I don’t want one either. I hope it’s as efficient and needed as you made it out to be… I do trust your opinion. ✌🏻
I wonder if the mattress will slide around with the smooth side up ?
Condensation is real bad in our popup truck camper. Will have to check it out. Thanks
what about the rest of the mattress that doesn't touch the hypervent? I want to buy a good mattress, but I'm concerned it'll be trashed by mold. Any advice is appreciated!
Can you talk about cold weather live no in an RV
Another great video thank you very much.. Wow your Walmart has one hell of a selection. up here in New York on Long Island we have barely toilet paper and a couple of other odds and ends..
Mr B read the tp first as wherever it can be used is written on the package. I always have to do that for septic tank use. Hopefully, this info helps.
cdLady54 Marengo thank you. Never thought to read package. On long Island most homes have septic/cesspool combo at home. I wonder if necessary style paper is only sold here. Never thought about that. I may get away with standard paper in the camper.. Thank you for your thoughts and ideas. Keep on camping!
What is the highest payload of 1 ton dually heavy duty truck with long box and crew cab. Thanks.
Tough to beat a place like Walmart. Like it or not, their selection is pretty vast. Furthermore, their prices are for the most part lower than most, if not the lowest. Great video btbrv. I like the mat idea. Sure make it look alot cleaner than the particle board in mine.
I have found Wal-Mart has a great marine and RV sections, stuff I used to got o Kmart for. Now being that Sears Kmart are on the verge of bankruptcy the shelves are bare because nobody wants to be stuck being owed for inventory.
Charles Kettering I agree Sears Kmart sucks. They don’t care about retail sales anymore. All of their stores run at a loss. They own a lot of property. I think they just keep the stores open till they can sell the property. With all the experience they had over the years with their catalog sales they should have dominated online sales.
gracias walmart deves de tener muchos mas productos para RV
I bet you could use that at a cabin that someone goes to every once in awhile
2:20 That wastebasket idea is EEEWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!
Have you ever thought of putting a sleep number bed in your RV as well?
I loathe going to Walmart, but it's the only place that carries the RV toilet paper that we prefer. For that reason, and that fact that it's $5 for a 4-roll pack, we're considering regular toilet paper. We're full-timing and not traveling, so we might give it a try. What's strange is that the selection varies widely from Walmart to Walmart. The closest to us is the store that was the original Hypermart, kind of the prototype of what would become the Walmart Supercenters. They have the toilet paper we prefer, but another supercenter across town does not.
Here is the take away lesson: the stuff sold at Walmart is the stuff that you WILL be replacing. I live in my RV full-time, and at least once a year I need to replace broken water hoses, water filters, etc. The bed stuff is what I need NOW.
Is it not the same stuff you can buy at Camping World?
John Irwin yes, but they charge the highest prices so they can sell you a discount program. Walmart is still a better value most days of the week.
Where is your Walmart? I have never seen such a comprehensive RV section in any Walmart here in Florida.
Question - How is the hypervent any different then an upside-down outdoor carpet? I feel like that would do the same thing for less money.
the Hypervent uses much more rigid material and creates a space that is roughly 3/4" between. Outdoor carpet would not create such an air gap. Try the carpet, perhaps it will work.
What if you have carpet? Will that prevent mold?
Very interesting. I have been a victim of some light moisture under the mattress, so i need to consider this. So this has been a few years ago, how did it work out? Did you install in your current RV? Thanks.
Thanks for this information!!!
Sure does and I stay in that and the camping section even though I haven't bought my first r.v. yet! 🤣😅😂
What is the best way to keep mildew out of the rest of the coach, I know the best way would be use it. But we don't get to use it much during the summer, mine is under a metal cover, should I let is air out, run A/C once and a while, dehumidifier, large quantity of damp rid (40ft 5th wheel). What do other people do?
We run our AC at 84° but also keep a large air purifier running on auto and try to visit it once a week to give it a good wipedown
@@BigTruckBigRV I may try that, it's in my yard and I do have it connected to a 50 amp service. Thanks
The link to the hypervent mattress underlay is not working - no page loads - Thanks
Hi
What is it made of
Platform under my mattress is carpeted. Am I good?
What do you think about gas 2500hd trucks compared to diesel. I have a 30bh travel trailer and want to upgrade to a 36bh or so some time in the next year.
Where is that walmart? All my local walmarts have a very poor rv section.
Yes I did the best place to shop . I go to Walmart!
Thanks for the video! I have a fiberglass rv, the beds are also fiberglass. I am wondering if the Hypervent would be safe to use on the fiberglass. Want to keep rub marks and scratches to a minimum. Can you advise?
perhaps a sheet or thin blanket under it would help prevent scratches.
Use a plactic sandwich bags
As soon as I typed it in below it changed so that I can access it now!
Wheee do you buy the stuff that goes under your mattress for moisture! And what is it called !
It's in the description of the video
I have a question Speaking off beds. I have a queen short in my 2018 KeyStone and I am looking to replace it. But I am having no luck on finding a good mattress. Any ideas where I can find a queen short matters?
We purchased a Brentwood RV Queen Short from Amazon. Liked it so much that we purchased the same brand for the house when it was to replace it. Highly recommend.
Ok I’ll check them out. Thanks
Just ordered bumpers from Ranch Hand because of your videos & I must say that I am really disappointed in what I got. Welding slag all over them, paint chipped off already, & to top it all I had actual hair stuck in the paint!
Who did you purchase them through?
Big Truck Big RV My local Off-road store...they are going back, but just very disappointed because of my excitement before I saw them in person
Send them back! Don't accept a subpar product, regardless of if I'm sponsored by them. Ranch Hand bumpers are damn expensive and if you don't get some in great shape, then they need to go back and you need a refund in my opinion. The problem they occasionally run into is that their bumpers (except for the Horizon line) are assembled 100% by hand. If one makes it to a less skilled welder, then you get a poor quality product. No excuse though. They shouldn't have made it past Quality Control. Sorry for your experience. I sent the VP an email tell them.
Big Truck Big RV Thanks for reaching out to RH
So now mold grows between the plastic and mattress?
No sir. The area needed for the air gap is between the matress and the noodle type portion.
I don't need that, I am hyper enough! :)
I noticed you filmed this before you got the Toyos...
part was filmed before and part after
Breath easy while you sleep.... LOL
GOOD INFO!
Anyone know a rack builder based in So-Cal?
My Walmart is small and doesn’t carry an RV section.😞
Michael B I think it is the Walmart Super Stores that sell the RV items because I ran into that too
Wal-nut you mean?
👍
I love my local WM
Not all of them!
this stuff is super expensive! for a queen its 100 dollars! wow
Yeah, it was $160 for a Queen and Delivery. I got it anyway because in the long run, better safe than sorry. Mold is not something to mess around with. I love my RV too much!
Casey Romero wrapped her mattress in a mattress cover and said she feels she'll get no mould.
And their prices are less than RV store.
Am not able to find HyperVentOnline.com on the internet?
FFS do you work for Walmart????
Just called the company to order. They don't ship to Ohio. Bummer !
no
I just spoked with the owner/inventor and he said that they ship anywhere in the USA no problem. He was really confused when I told him about this comment. Might want to call back.
I'm confused too. I called the Seattle WA number on the website and the guy asked me where I was from and I said Ohio. He said he didn't ship to Ohio. I was looking at their site and noticed it is per linear foot. I called to ask if it was a square linear foot or a foot at the 40" width. That's when he asked where I was at (Ohio) and then he stated he didn't ship to my location. Would love to get this product.
Not mentioning pricing on products you review is a big thumbs down for me!
You're all about hygiene but you are cutting the material on the ground where people spit and piss and walk with their dirty shoes.
lol this isn't the 1800s....
dont forget the dog, cat, possum poo too! least we forget parasites pooped out by birds, eventually end up with itchy butt and the doctor will sound like an animal vet " Yep hes full of hooks, whips and rounds!"
