Jeep TJ Center Console Subwoofer Upgrade

- Upgraded my blown stock tj center console subwoofer to a kicker sub. Install process and some small mods I had to do to make it fit. Overall I am super happy with the performance of the new sub much better than stock and it isn't even being fully powered.

I'm sooo ready to buy a Tj now! yours looks sooooo good man, love the videos.
+Eli Green Thanks brother!!
Kicker comp RT dvc on factory amp works good . Changed out the dash for some vintage pioneer tsp461 plate speakers sounds good when you put some 1” tweeters in top ac vents . Factory speaker is cheaply made to fail .
The fact you had rockstar playing just made you so much cooler lol.
Guys my stock tj amp isn’t working so I threw it away if you want a recommendation I chose a ( Toro m2 amp) it’s tiny but it has 500watts perfect for the tj Center Console it 90$ the price is a steal trust me. And the sub I chose is the same as the videos it’s a 6.75 compt kicker
Did you have to buy any additional wiring or will it just plug into old factory stuff?
Hey @kylesvt, did you end up connecting both positive and negatives to the sub? I’m running the same setup but wasn’t sure what the two extra wires were for.
hmm there were only 2 wires for me the positive and the negative
Very cool Kyle!
+James Sarno Thanks James!!
Nicely done
Thanks!
Can you list the product number of the sub and the specs of the spacer you made??

Do you have a link to where to buy these on amazon? what size do I buy?
Porter😍
Hey what kind of amp did you use? and are u using the kicker 1 OHM or 2 OHM?
using the factory amp
using the factory amp
Can u make me a ring for a subwoofer like that?? I just got one from Amazon. Would like a mounting ring like the one u made.
I’m trying to install the same Kicker subwoofer into the factory box. But an interference issue (even after trimming) brings a need for that adapter ring. No aftermarket supplier makes those adapters. Can you help a fellow Jeep guy out?
Were u able to get it to fit? I'm having the same issue!
@@whowho8470 I ended up buying these speaker gaskets and using them on the back side of the speaker to shim it up for clearance. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00D7HRJI4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
@@briandonnelly1271 very much appreciate the link! I'll try it out and let you know.
@@whowho8470 Thanks Daniel. You know how the Jeep community is. We help each other out.
@@briandonnelly1271 it’s as simple as putting that gasket behind it to fit?
I got a new head unit a while ago and when I installed it everything worked but the stock console subb, now I got the same kicker 6.75 subb yo upgrade but I can’t get it to work ?
I have the same problem. I bought the 04 TJ with JVC head already installed. So how do I check the harness that feeds the console to see if power being fed?
@@kell9996 I pulled my console out, its easy to remove. If your tj had a factory sub then it also has an amp. I had to take my jeep to an audio place to have them rewire the head unit and the sub started working
@@SlayaBoyz thanks. Yes that’s how it’s looking for me. I installed the new sub and checked polarity, but I don’t think it’s getting power from head unit, and because previous owner did install I don’t know if harness was wired up. Maybe it won’t cost too much just to have it wired correctly. 😅
Kyle, could you send me the template dimensions for the adapter please?
My buddy made a one off piece I don't have the file
What size subwoofer
Don't know haven't out
Just joined the premium, any chance I could ask you a few questions on this install? I saw this video and ordered the same sub. I am struggling bad to get power to it. Not sure what I am doing wrong. I wasnt able to see from this video how the wiring was handled, I checked other videos online but had no luck. Could it be the fuse? Appreciate any help you can provide!!!!

Would you get an adapter made and sell to me?

Whats the model # for that Kicker subwoofer?

how did you wire it?

🙌😇💖
Mad respect opening up with Illenium!
could I send you the console and speaker and could you make bracket
That's a nice fancy trim ring.... But why didn't you just remove the back plastic cover on the sub. Wayyyyy easier and gives you PLENTY of clearance with the stock sub enclosure....
j rich I’m interested in installing one of these subs, how do you remove the back plastic?
Rich, I think you're mistaken. I have this same Kicker sub and there isn't a black plastic cover. What sub are you talking about?
Hey man, So i took off my soundbar on my tj bc I think it makes the tj look better and now i wanna replace my sound system. Could i just use the two speakers in the dash and then the sub in the console? Would that sound right? Lmk what u thtink thanks
That probably would sound bad. The soundbar you can add 6.5 inch speskers and that helps out with it sounding much better bc the front dash speakers are so small.
Which one is it? 1 OHM or 2 OHM?
2
How much work did you have get it to fit in jeep wrangler tj
not much just what I did in the video
for this upgrade, do you need an amp anywhere in your car or is that sub powered directly off of the head unit? I'd love to upgrade mine (its been blown) but don't know what parts i need to do this besides the custom mounting bracket.
Nope its simply plugs right in
@@KyleSVT i thought that sub was powered by dual component cables and the stock head unit used a 9-pin connector. Does the stock head unit used component cables or is there something I'm missing?
that song is my jam "whered you go "
Hey mate. Got a TJ 2005 wrangler renegade that has stock 6 speakers, sub and I assume amp in the centre console next to sub.
Looking to replace stock stereo. New one uses ISO. So was just going to get new harness and splice to new Stereo harness. Do you know if doing this will still allow stock sub and amp to work?
I have no idea sorry man
Quadrarec sells a no mod replacement for $100.
whats the best replacement sub box I can get my tj I bought no longer has the box with amp
Are you using the stock amplifier?
yes
what’s the size of the woofer
+Bryan Fernandes 6 3/4inch
I'm in the process of getting a 1998 TJ red sport rusted jeep in Erie, PA. needs new frame. I found the jeep for $250. then new frame rails and Tub for $2000. Should I buy the frame + Tub then the rusted TJ. I'm 16. This TJ will be my 2nd jeep. I already own a 2005 4x4 grand Cherokee for daily. Love your videos. A channel focus on one model of Jeep.
Plus watching this video makes me want to get a subwoofer, I love bass.
idk man I dont think I can give you much advise on that. But thanks for watching the videos!
Hey there...where can I find the file to mill that spacer? My friend has a mill but I don't know how to use it. Also, it seems to be hooked up with some kind of proprietary connector. How'd you modify that?
My buddy created the file. The connector is factory TJ
@@KyleSVT Is it an Aspire file? Can I have a copy?
I have no idea what file type it is. I don't have the file
Is there any way you could get the file from your friend?
Quick question. What is that wood strip on the outer box for? Did you glue that piece for some reason?
just a piece of card board to give a little bit of space between the sub and the center console. Not sure if it was needed.
One question.. this new sub is running of the old wiring.. no additional amp needed?
Yes its running on the stock amp and wiring. It would perform better with a more powerful amp
I did the same thing and quickly switched to a separate amp. This way is... fine, but really doesn’t do the nice quality sub justice.
Where did you mount the aftermarket amp. What model amp did you use?
@@theCycleReport what amp did you use to power yours
@@lloydsmith4677 a kicker 42pxa2001 - really small
What is the model on the sub and do you have it running on factory power or separate amp?
factory power. Should be a link in description of video
I don't get why so many jeepers think kicker is actually good??
Perfect size and correct sub for the application
Do you have the dimensions for the wooden spacer
I do not. My buddy made it
Man I was digging thru the comments for this exact question lol
@drewskie 1996 I’m proud to report I successfully mimicked your operation and have the sub successfully installed! Appreciate the video!
Have you had any issues with the factory amp? I was told it could cause it to blow down the road. Just wondering how it's been doing?
So far its been great! The amp will just not power the sub to its full potential is all
Awesome thanks man, well appreciated
Is this worth doing? i have the same problem, every place i have gone to is trying to talk me out of it....But it seems legit.
Yea its awesome and so worth it. Its not that hard to do either
I just ordered it, Thanks for the input man, will it matter if i don't use that mdf spacer? Also legit you have a termi, i have a sn95 cobra.
Thanks bro! very cool! The spacer made it fit easier but maybe you can take more out of the sub box and make it fit
DID YOU USE THE STOCK AMP?
+Jeremy Bugno yes sir!
Really? That's dumb. Why even waste money on an aftermarket sub if you're not going to properly drive it??? I have the kicker 200.1 and it works perfectly.
because I needed to replace my blown factory one and this kicker was cheaper than factoey replacement one
@@No_Rings_Attached got any pictures how you wired things up
I really appreciate the video- do you happen to know what the RMS rating of the stock amp is?
I do not sorry
@@KyleSVT this is for responding. It looks and sounds like it made a big difference in the Jeep- is that right?
Np. Yea works fantastic
Wiring goes back the same? Black and red to one side, brown and grey to the other?
yep just the same. it only works one way so you will get it
KyleSVT thanks
np!
I wired mine that way at first it and didn’t work. I then used only the red and black wires and followed the Kicker diagram to wire it in series and abandoned the brown and gray wires. It works beautifully this way!!!!
Where did you put amp?
stock amp
Nice
thanks bro!
I got the exact sub that you installed for my 2006... it kinda fits, and I could probably make it work with some self tapping screws. However is there a way I can buy one of those rings from you so that it will be more snug? And when wiring did you use any jumpers or did you just go + to + and - to - on both sides?
I had my buddy make it for me. No I just used the stock wires and stripped the ends off and put them into the subwoofer connections
Josh Y did u install it without the spcer ring around it? how has it held up? im thinking of doing the same thing
Just remove the plastic cover on the back of the sub. It'll give you more than enough clearance. The cover is only for asthetics.
Could you send me the file of the subwoofer adapter you cut out on the CNC Machine? I have a blown subwoofer as well and have a CNC machine and was hoping to cut one out. Thanks
+Ryan Fluegge Ill have to ask my buddy and see if he is willing to share it. He is the one who made it for me
You ever get that file off your buddy?
@@KyleSVT I would be interested in this as well, as our public library has a CNC machine. Would be great to get the SVG file.
@@rossbatson1296 did you get the SVT File?
Did you get the file I would like this as well.
Just ordered for my 04. Now let's see if I can make it work
its a challenge but if your handy you can do it
KyleSVT I'll probably come back to this video and ask questions lol
haha sounds good
KyleSVT I ended up spending like an hour cutting the plastic. I didn't use a spacer so hopefully I don't have to unbolt it later to add one.
nice dude!
I just became a subscriber for the simple fact you were playing Illenium!!! Also who doesn’t like a good TJ.
Thanks brother!
Do you absolutely need that spacer ring you had made or is there a way around it. I just bought my TJ and am itching to get working on it.
You might be able to to make it fit but I just had it made
Do you remember how your wired it? I am doing it and when I use the 4 wires to each terminal from the factory it won’t work. Sub is not blown
did you try reversing the wires?
@@KyleSVT I just tried using 2 of the factory wires and then bridging the 2 terminals with a speaker wire and it worked.
nice
@@KyleSVT hope it doesn’t reduce power
Wow...great job.....thumb up!
Thanks man!
