Just watched the two hour version on UA-cam. You and Dad did an amazing job on this cabin. I wish he could have seen where the cabin is now. HE would have been SO PROUD of YOU. KEEP him in your heart every time you see a piece of trim and remember that day or recall a section of the cabin that caused you both to become frustrated. It is the time spent together that matters most. Clearly he loved you more than you can imagine! I hope you and your family make lots of memories together in that special place. @@dcraexon134 I'm thinking it's off a horse-drawn, ground-driven spring tooth cultivator(because of the studs) or a hay dump or side rake or other some such device. I used a lot of old horse-drawn equipment on my first farm back in the 60s. Pulled them with an International W4 tractor including a horse-drawn 2 furrow Cockshut plow which I could still get plow points for back then😊.
The Wagon Wheel most definitely must be a chandelier. When you held it up towards the ceiling it just looked right. I thought it's like a part of Sr.. Outsider watching over you whenever you walk in the cabin. Great shots of down the well. Can't wait to see the curved logs put to use. Whatever you decide will look fantastic. Oh ya, awesome touch with the pennies on the floor. Just Great to have you back.

I’m one of the “railing” people LOL. I can just see children and grandchildren standing behind its sturdy spokes, looking down over the warm and lovely cabin that you and your father built. A strong barrier in tribute to a strong man.

So good to see you back. Life must continue however hard things are. When I lost my mum about 20 years ago for a season I lived in a daze my heart was unrecoverably broken. Yet over time I learned to live with it. Yes one never heals but we look for good memories that we can feel the void in our hearts. Be strong bro. I thank God that you are a Christian and its not all lost for us. One day we will meet again with our departed loved ones.

I know your dad would be so proud to see you back at the cabin continuing your work. I didn’t think too much beyond just the wheel when I first saw you find it. Now having been through everything I think this would make a lovely dinning table. I can see you cutting pie wedges to fit and fixing to a nice solid stump base. I think it would be great to have something you touch and use everyday that was close to your father and family. It was just my thoughts today, it is the circle of life and sometimes the wheels fall off, it can derail us, leave us feeling destitute. Then we must pick ourselves up again from those falls and come back around to how life keeps turning and blessed joy and love is what we have to keep us strong. Well that’s the way I saw you, Senior Outsider and your family.

Welcome Back! You were missed. So many memories of your dad in the cabin build. Putting on roof in the cold snow etc. So cool that your dad was a part of the build and the family can enjoy for generations. I lost both my mom and dad three years ago. Glad to see you back at the cabin, and working on it. Your dad would be proud of you, I sure he’s probably with you at least in spirit. My dad died of a massive heart attack in the drive way of my parents home while getting into his pickup truck back of December 30, 1977. When my wife and I would go back to the house where they lived and I lived as a single man, I could almost feel his presence around the place. Maybe you might get the same feeling of Senior Outsider still around the cabin.

Years from now? Canada hasn't minted pennies since 2013. I haven't seen one in probably five years. I know kids who've never seen one.
Welcome back! The pennies are genius, very much an artist's touch. Speaking from a Buddhist's perspective The Wheel has great significance. I would encourage you to hang and light it as a reminder of the paths you have already walked and the paths you have not yet begun. That cabin is as much a monument to your dad as it is a testament to the hard work you both put into it and the beauty of the design that you made together. Every time you look at those upstairs windows; or enjoy the breeze through the gables, you'll think of him and be glad for him talking you into them. What a great guy. I can imagine your daughter bringing her friends and later her own kids and showing them the pennies, having fun times in the cabin and telling stories about her grandpa. It is a gorgeous build and should give many years of sleepovers, vacations, relaxing weekends or whatever. But regardless of why you go, you'll always remember that amazing time with your Dad. I've admired him since the first video I watched and thought how lucky you were to get to spend so much time with him.
I initially thought the wheel would look great as a part of the railing, but making it in to a chandelier over the living space would look amazing.
My Grandfather had 2 of those old wagon wheels, and he painted them and made a rotating planter out of them. It was about 8' long with 6 wooden planter boxes. Thanks for the video . . . the labor of love continues !

I absolutely LOVE the pennies covering the nails - I've never seen that done before. That old wagon wheel will be a wonderful addition not matter where you place it/how you incorporate it. Those wind blown cedar trees are going to look AH-MAZING as stair rails. TY for the video 😊

We have barn doors for our master bathroom and our walk in closet. The tracks came from my wife’s parents 17K acre ranch in Montana. My wife is so proud of them.

Love the copper pennies! And I love the “mammoth tusks”! I found the well to be jaw-dropping-ly amazing. How in the world could the well digger wield his shovel in such a narrow space? Would he have used a post hole digger instead? His workmanship is beyond excellent. I tried to imagine myself down there, digging, lifting the dirt out one bucket at a time, and then laying the rocks with such precision. I couldn't. Do you know who built it? Family? Your work is as meticulous as his!
All the little touches and attention to detail is what makes your cabin so very very special to you and your dad. I love the penny idea. Although the dates may not be current… they sort of implant a dated time capsule for future generations. Oh the Wagon Wheel is such a great addition…no matter what you end up doing with it. Wow seeing inside that well and the craftsmanship was such a awesome experience…even if just through UA-cam. Amazing pictures MacGuyver! 😁 Thank you for sharing all you do.

I personally like to make things that are multi use so I would hang the wagon wheel over my kitchen island and use the mason jar lights, add some wrought iron hooks so I can hang my cast iron pots and pans from it. Cabin is looking awesome. Listening to you talk about your dad really makes me miss my dad so much.

As soon as I saw you put that wheel up on the loft I thought "oh yeah!" Chandeliers have been done with that type of wheel before. Can't wait to see what you do with those curved cedars!

I was first thinking chandelier when I saw that wheel. But turning it into a contraption to hang pots and pans from sounded like a really good idea. I think that could look really good, and be very useful.
