    Samoan dances today are all done m,ostly to CDs playing. Gone are the days when people sang and expressed the harmonies. Thank you for sharing this!

    This is the true essence of the siva samoa or mauluulu... it should tell the story of the lives of our people, our customs and our traditions. Thank you for sharing this footage.

    It was so beautiful in the olden days looking/watching a dance group, only a sogaimiti or a malu we can see on some of the men's and women's bodies, and that was neat and clean but at nowadays,.. ohhhh!!!! too much ink.

    The uniforms are different to nowadays and also nowadays men don't do the mauluulu why is that. I was recently watching a video of the men and women doing it but now only girls do it. And also they don't do the traditional ailao

      @Sam0anKnight07  9 років тому +4

      I guess with all the outside influence of change and perceptions, much of our traditional performing arts have somewhat diminished. Perfect example would be the mauluulu in how the actions of both men and women are supposed to be the same yet nowadays many believe that for a man to be graceful and whatnot is considered "unmanly" or not "masculine" enough - which is why the add a lot of the faataupati actions to the dance (and most of the time they look like idiots).

    • @Sam0anKnight07
      @Sam0anKnight07  9 років тому +3

      In regards to the traditional ailao, I guess people are more entertained and thrilled to watch the new ailao afi now as it is more "appealing" to them, but which is really sad because then we lose out on another traditional treasure of our culture

    • @Sam0anKnight07
      @Sam0anKnight07  9 років тому +1

      Btw, when there are traditional Samoan faafiafiaga competitions back home, many schools and villages dress up like the teachers in the video I.e. using the titi fau and that :-)

    • @TheRealJanosAudron

      +D Misa THANK YOU! The traditional ailao far exceeds the contemporary siva afi anyday IMO. It's saddening that one of our many cultural art forms has been reduced to a globally monetized exhibition of baton twirling set aflame. Shame...

    • @sharkeisha2225
      @sharkeisha2225 8 років тому +1

      +D Misa you explained everything so beautifully and clearly and yes it is sad that some traditions have been lost I wish they would go back to the traditions
