I am a great Mikos Rozsa fan and his score for "Ivanhoe" is one of his very best. I didn't see the film on its first release in 1952, but on its reissue in 1960 when I was a 13 years old boy at the now long gone Alhambra cinema in Stoke on Trent and I was very impressed. Every time I hear this score, it takes me right back to those days when my life and the world were so different to what they are today. I bought the CD seen above some years ago and it remains an important part of my collection. David Rayner (now aged 70).

I saw " Ivanhoe " later on TV, & sadly, it seemed dated & stilted; the music though, was beautiful. As with a failed effort as Bronston's disastrous " King Of Kings", the film was embarrassingly bad. The music though, was inspiring & gorgeous. The same is to be said for " El Cid". Though Heston was miscast, the film was well done, & the score was beautiful. What a master of this art form Rozsa was ! --Wolfsky9
@@Wolfsky9 Sorry, totally disagree with you on Heston being miscast in "El Cid". That role was tailor-made for him and he was magnificent as Rodrigo aka "El Cid". Despite my profound disappointment with Heston of his later ultra-right-wing political views. His role as Rodrigo in El Cid, in my opinion, was even better than the Ten Commandments. El Cid is one of the greatest films of all time and in my opinion, no other actor could have played El Cid better than him.

Since marriage ends upon the Earth
Let friendship then but prove it's worth
