Alex's response to "how are you?" is the embodiment of all of us
Honestly I hate this anglo-american gesture and it was good to see an englishman reacting to this in a pretty scandinavian or Central/East-European manner.
Facts 😂😂😂💯💔
This is so true.
It can’t be understated how fantastic this series is
Overstated, but yeah it’s fantastic.
@@lfcamerican4366 He could have been implying that he wouldn't allow it
Sometimes i feel Joe started Tifo just to annoy Alex.
Not knowing Alex, I still I feel this is a valid premise for a youtube channel.
Sometimes I feel Joe just started Alex, to annoy Tifo.
Alex explaining the origin of Brentford and Joe not caring is this series in a nutshell
- It's very interesting because something, something, something
- Disinterested grunt.
you should get joe a phyiscal care-o-metre so he can adjust it in real time
Very good idea
do they have a shipping address i might just make it myself
@@mohedaicebear I would buy one for my own life 😂 just to let people know when my care is waning

0:27 Alex's "meh" is a big mood lol
Came here to say this.
and hey, you have my initials.
Joe really looks like a young man... full of vitality.
Quite the opposite dude looks like he’ll be the stereotypical fat bald British football fan in like 2 years
@@RiddleR78 i think hes being sacrcastic
@@isuldir1465 I know 😂 Joe needs to start playing football instead of talking about it
not cool to call people fat man, im fat too lmaooo
That's mean🤣🤣🤣🤣
Watching this right after Brentfords victory over Arsenal. I guess we really should care about this club!
As a 🐝 fan you should yes!
It's only Arsenal...
No I don’t.
Building a team based on data reminds me that this is not fifa. Like the NBA, this is not 2K.
This is not a game.
If you know, you know.
@@robert2690 Im guessing you've never watched Moneyball...
@@robert2690 Liverpool???
All football analysts and mathematicians are really excited to see a team like Brentford in the Prem. If this works, we could see a lot more of this across the English leagues... Guess I'm an honourary fan for this season!
We all are mate!
It has worked. Brentford being in the EPL is the indicator that this model works.
Trueee
Data-led football and the moneyball approach might be damaging certain technical aspects of the game. We all know that possession-phases are shorter then they were 30 years ago. This is for a number of reasons - the game is faster, players are fitter, the ball is different, etc, etc.... But maybe one further reason why many quite talented teams seem to have problems stringing more than 5 or 6 passes together is that managers now think of team-selection as an exercise in statistically spreading your bets. This is not necessarily conducive to fluid passing football, because it dis-emphasizes SEQUENCES and RHYTHM. Let me offer a comparison.
Let's imagine that you're the trainer of the Italian national team sometime during the 1990's. You've got Vieri. He has exceptional pace. To optimize the tactical value of his pace, you need midfielders who can play incisive passes and put balls IN FRONT OF HIM. He doesn't want the ball to feet - he wants it in-behind.
So you put Demetrio Albertini in the team, because Albertini is a slick ball-player who can deliver that through-ball pass which a greyhound like Vieri will thrive on.
But now that you've decided Albertini is in the team, how do you give Albertini the ball which he needs?
it's Albertini's job to deliver the ball which Vieri needs, but first somebody must supply the ball which Albertini needs
- somebody needs to be able to dig the ball out of tight spaces and lay it off to Albertini, so then he can look up and do some damage with a rangy pass.
So you put somebody like Dino Baggio or Luigi Di Biagio in beside Albertini. Every time they win a tackle or use some footwork to dig the ball out, they create space for Albertini - they buy him an extra yard to work in.
So Dino Baggio CREATES SPACE for Albertini.
Albertini then AMPLIFIES SPACE with a rangy pass for Vieri to run onto. The value of the space which Baggio created has now been multiplied by 3 by the rangy pass. There's been a multiplier-effect.
Vieri then EXPLOITS SPACE with his pace. The value of the space which Albertini bought for him has been multiplied further by his ability to exploit the space in front of him with raw speed.
CREATE. AMPLIFY. EXPLOIT.
A sequence of passes, wherein each player uses different tools to multiply the tactical value of the space given to him, a sequence of multiplier-effects. It only has to come off once in a match to make it worthwhile.
Managers don't think like that anymore, because now it's all moneyball. Managers don't think about tactical multiplier-effects anymore. Now they think only of addition, not multiplication. Teams are finding it much harder to hit their passing-rhythm because there is insufficient emphasis on the point that, in a sequence of passes, different types of player need to do different jobs.
Players who can tackle or use footwork in tight spaces create space.
Ball-players amplify space.
Highly mobile players or players with clever movement exploit space (usually forwards, full-backs, or both).
Create, amplify, exploit....
And each player in the sequence uses a different technical or athletic tool to further multiply the tactical value of the space which is passed over to him.
But not anymore. Now it's all just arithmetic.
Conclusion: The rise of data-led football and the moneyball approach to football have had a damaging effect on fluidity and on the quality of passing.
@@padraigmcgrath3876 Not convincing. You argue multiplication over addition; they're both arithmetic. A proper statistical analysis should account for the traits you describe. Maybe most analyses don't yet, but I don't know exactly what data the analysts use and how they use it. Do you?
I honestly can see Alex leaning over and slapping Joe in one of these videos 😂
And it would be long overdue :)
11:01 My phone had to pay for that one.
And Brentford just beat Arsenal 2-0 on the opening day of PL 😂
Brentford will be interesting to watch. I'm interested on how they'll navigate the waters of the Premier League with their analytical approach. 🔴⚪🔴⚪🔴⚪🔴⚪🔴⚪🔴⚪🔴
love your content mate
Looking forward to see them
indeed
Don't need analytics to tell them that they'll score 4 past Leno
@@everyone1liesd459 looooooooooooolllll :)))))
The FM stuff and the 'why should I care' videos have been so good, so glad you've decided to make these types of videos. The IRL channel is a masterstroke, keep it up xx
“I’m excited by Brentford and I’m never excited by anything.” Talk about finishing with the strongest argument :)
Alex failed to mention another ex-Brentford ex-premier league player: Chris Mepham at Bournemouth. Also the manager that Thomas Frank replaced at Brentford in 2018 was Dean Smith of Aston Villa.
Brentford were the only team in competition with PSG for messi
But then they decided be would be too small for their club
alex could genuinely be a great sociology professor lol
who couldn't be
I cannot believe this, is that Dyin Bryan?
Who is here after brentford just beat Arsenal
I think last night's 90 minutes vs Arsenal should be enough to convince you to care about Brentford
Who’s here after the Brentford win???
Who's here before.
Loving the recent contents on both Tifo and Tifo IRL, keep up the good work boys!
Becoming a Brentford fan because of a video here about five years ago feels so good now.
I feel like eventually this story has a similar ending to the Oakland A's: Brentford will do really well with the Moneyball system, overachieve for their budget, punch above their weight etc etc.
Then one (or more) of the bigger established teams will take up the same approach, and go on to win multiple titles while Brentford never make it that far.
All Premier League teams use xG and xA nowadays.
@@scottchegg828 Tell that to city and their Grealish purchase 😅
You can’t compare a team like Brentford to the Oakland As. Yeah, the Oakland As had the lowest payroll in baseball at times. But that’s all relative. You cannot compare the As and the Yankees to say, Brentford and Man City. Because of salary cap and no relaxation and the way American sports are run, you can’t compare any team in American sports to the minnows in the EPL. Remember, the As won a World Series just a decade before all that moneyball stuff hit it big... Brentford does not have a EPL title in their recent past. The As could have won a World Series around that time and it would have been an underdog story. If Brentford wins the EPL... Hell just froze over
@@MrChristianGB What?
I think as far as Moneyball system comparison is Norwich City and Oakland A's. After all they have the same kit colours :)
Certainly made me more excited to see them play today. Great content lately lads!
J: "Hi Alex"
A: "Hi Joe"
J: "How are you?"
A: "meh.."
Wonderful.
I appreciate the Brentford model so much. They beat us (Watford) convincingly last season and in preseason! So glad we went up automatically, cos getting them in the playoffs, I'm not convinced we would have gone up! 🤣
Besides shifting to a 3/5 at the back, for a good chunk of last season, this was a great video. Interesting team interesting set-up... And yeah, just exciting
black and yellow club that does amazing deals with prospect players and employs a modern, attacking style? Alex chose the right shirt as always.
Anyone here after they beat Arsenal?

Should be a 'Why I Shouldn't Care About..' series as well
This is a really good format for a series but is also surprisingly simple
I think they just gave us a pretty good reason
I love TIFO man, ALL of your content is amazingly good. Keep it up guys, congrats!
Talk about a video that aged wonderfully huh? Brentford 2 - 0 Arsenal
Love Alex's shirt, Nur der BVB
I’m praying Ivan Toney leads my FPL team to glory.
Love Tifo IRL and the "Why should I care" segment, but the clock on the top corner just made me anxious for Alex, Idk why
I have a ton of respect for Alex's football brain. One of the best on UA-cam.
JJ's is close, it's just more stealthy because of his general goofiness.
This is a good series 👍
Thanks for the vid
Smart contents from this channel. Really useful for me
I am really excited to watch them, hope they stay up.
Good Vid. Got a few details wrong though
Who's here after Brentford beat Arsenal 2-0?
Okay... I'm getting Toney in my FPL team!
I wasn't going to but now I'm extremely tempted 😂
I subbed him in a couple of days ago, now hes alongside Kane and Lukaku for me
I have been convinced

Brentford v Arsenal tonight is going to be a massive underdog story. 2-0 to Arsenal
How is Arsenal the underdog? They're top of the table right now!
@@joseph-fernando-piano Arsenal are definitely an underdog, last in the table playing high flying Brentford
This didn't age well

Alex deserves a gold star
I love, love, LOVE this series. :D
Loved this video
Arteta should have watched this video.
really enjoyed this!
Correction - Brentford is in West London, not South-West London. Where does 'South' come into it?
We are north of the Thames and next to Chiswick which is in W4.
Props to everyone at this channel. Content keeps getting better and better.
This aged amazingly
Im on board, really hope they play well
Loved This!
Super excited for the BEES!
We need more of this
A year later, brentford is incredibly impressive
Brentford have so much momentum right now, Ivan toney is a beast and the squad is showing why they are in the prem .
"Add another London club to the premier league" he says!! Well West London lost Fulham in the PL and gained Brentford, seems fair to me 😁 as a Chelsea fan I always love watching Chelsea play against other West London clubs.
I think that Mathias Jensen will start. Can’t see you mentioned him in the line up?
Brentford (the area) is the setting for a 10 book series, The Brentford Trilogy.
Love the care-o-meter.
I'm a late lover of Brentford during the pandemic. GREAT video Tifo IRL hehe.
'Same colours' - Michael Scott vibes haha
The clock makes it exciting!
Its sad that as a UTD fan I look at these teams and with proper foreign affliates and owners setting up a smartly run club and then see the dusty state of my club
Must be awful regularly signing big name, world class players and seeing champions league football
Oh no my club only signed Varane and Sancho 😢
@@willallnutt4612 As a Liverpool fan, the delusion of top 6 clubs fans (including my own) is infuriating. Imagine being jealous of Brentford because your club only spent £130,000,000 on the first team.
Alex' collection of football-related clothing has to be one of the best in the world.
This is my new favorite Tifo series... Great job lads!
This has became one of my favorite football related series
Who's here after they beat Arsenal 2-0?
Nice little Casio.
Please make videos like these for other top 5 leagues as well.
This is a fun series
The audio being just so slightly out of sync for parts of the video is driving me insane.. Other than that, a great video!
As a Brentford fan I approve and I love our team.
As a United fan i approve and i love your team
I will become Brentford fan
I hope more and more top flight teams adopt the moneyball approach
This is really good
Except for the fact you weren't expecting Brentford to lineup with 3 at the back for most of the season...
And the fact we won't necessarily buy a new RB, that you suggest is essential. Because Roerslev is very, very good.
And he didn't even start against Arsenal, Canos did, at RWB. And he scored. And we won without conceding. Because the team is chosen based upon the best lineup against that opposition.
I wouldn't be surprised if we come top half this season, because the team has been created in such a way that we can adapt to any opponent. Teams like Palace, Brighton, Burnley, Southampton, Newcastle, and Arsenal (lol), might find life tough against us, that's for sure.
That's a lot of confidence for a team that needed the playoffs to go up
@@thebeatsfactory7788 Just 4 points behind Watford, with 79 goals(most in the league) and conceded just 42
Well we'll well, what a season opener we had tonight
I like the shirt Alex is wearing!
Fingers crossed Shandon Baptiste gets fit and stays fit
The random glitch at 7:16 made me worry my monitor had messed up but it was the video haha
I'm really enjoying TiFo's current string of entirely weird vibes ♥️
This is funny and informative
I think once they drew to Liverpool, I started watching them
I am very excited
I love the heart shaped care o meter.
Watching this after they beat Arsenal😂😂😂
They have such soothing british accents. Only reasons i subscribe to them.
I've just noticed that the "next few days" are eternity!
I want a table like that!
just love to see their expressions XD
I loved every minute of this. Toney is Prem golden boot in the making.
Watching this after the Arsenal match. Yeah, you should *definitely* care. What a game.
saw them play yesterday, this is a premier league team.
"How are you?"
"Mmmhmm"
