I picked up a book yesterday at the airport and thought Id recommend it here maybe. "Guns, Germs and Steel" by Jared Diamond, A short history of everybody for the last 13.000 years. He goes for an attempt to explain why things are today the way they are. Big big recommandation, its the first book Ive read in years and im already 30 percent tru.

The mixtec are NOT aztec, the aztec empire was an imperial force than controlled and subjugated much of mesoamerica, including various mayan kingdoms as well as the zapotec, mixtec, tlaxcalans, (and countless others which im less familiar with). The mixtec are bot ethnically aztec and calling them so would be like calling a germany under Napoleons control 'french' or calling a serbia under ottoman control 'turkish'. Mesoamerica has distinct and valid cultures which are just as deserving of respect and recognition as western cultures. Furthermore, although ritual sacrifice was a part of mixtec and zapotec culture, its importance and the amount of it that occurred is greatly overinflated. By focusing so much on 'aztec sacrifices' ur just promoting harmful stereotypes from Europen colonizers. Furthermore, its not like europeans didnt do kust as much buring at the stake or beheading, and when the Spanish conquered mexico, they brutally seared natives woth engravings and burned many. Furthermore, as the aztecs qere the ones actually in control of much of mesoamerica, they would have been doing the vast majority of executions, not the mixtec. As a really large geography UA-camr, please at least brush up on yourknowledge of new world/non-western civilizations, otherwise you juat look ignorant. :)
