Former ESL teacher who taught in Hong Kong and China; I always find it funny that people are so obsessed with accents, especially in Asia. In language learning, accent is like focusing on step 9 when you're still on step 2 and 3. It's something you do at advanced stages of language learning. There are polyglots and translators who sound absolutely foreign, yet they can have extremely fluid conversations in many languages. At the end of the day, the goal in language learning should be communication, not how people perceive you because of your accent.
If you learn English but have a Filipino accent, yet can read, write and speak fluently without any issues in communication, then what is the problem? Most people I found who were very determined to learn a certain accent but could not communicate well, also couldn't tell certain accents apart. That's what really confused me. Learn what you want to learn and do it for yourself, not because of what others say or think.

Funny that other Asians are worried & thinking about Filipino accent-the closest to American accent & some even have the audacity to make fun of it😅as if they can adapt Australian, American or British accent if they chose to go & learn English in these countries in just a few months!?😅I would even dare any Asian adult except a Filipino to go learn English & even live there for 10 years & let's see if their accent is not noticeable anymore😂These people probably never knew & so didn't wonder why the Philippines is the 'Call center of the world' wherein most of their western clients like from America or even from Australia have no idea that the one they are talking to is someone in & from the Philippines.
Unlike Filipinos who can go to the U.S & speak & sound like American in just a year or 2, other Asians can't have Filipino accent 0nly if they grew up here in the Philippines(not necessarily born) but grew up like some Korean kids & other foreigners who were brought by their parents when they migrated to the Philippines. For those thinking about Filipino accent, Don't even bother to think about it because your very own natural distinct accent comes out naturally & it will be strong & obvious😅😂
