Watch me go!!! Blind preschooler uses cane.

- Watch as 2 year 4 month old child uses her cane to navigate, probe and learn what is in her world. Toddlers can and should be introduced to canes even before they start walking.
You will see she does not just push a cane. (as my students used to do with the heavier canes with rolling tips, which they tended more to drop or toss as they did not understand the vital information they could provide) The lighter cane enables her to actually probe to touch and identify objects in her environment. For more information on cane usage with preschoolers or if you are interested in becoming an orientation and mobility instructor yourself, contact kwalker@alliedinstructional.com. It is a fun and rewarding career! If you are already an instructor or studying to become one, we hope you will consider becoming part of our Allied Instructional Services Team. www.alliedinstructional.com
interesting, I've never seen a baby with a cane before! there's always older children who already know how to walk , but first time seen a blind baby lerning how to go around
I always thought it was weird how she’s only two and already in preschool.
Same here
I'm full of tears of joy god bless these children
what a sweet Angel God bless little one
Side to side, thats going to be stuck in my head for a year or two now.
It still is :)
My dad is blind from age 6. I have two sons of my sons who are sighted. I use side to side where i can.
Its all ready a rap song, haha!
she is so attentive at that young tender age and has done it properly... very cute video to watch!
This teacher is awesome. She is not sugarcoating the blind kid from anything else. She's making the kid see the difference even in spite of her blindness!
I am twenty-five and many years away from needing a cane (hopefully). The idea always frightens me. But something about watching that little girl go on her way with a smile makes me a bit less afraid of the future. I hope she has an awesome future and never lets anything stop her from achieving her goals!
This is so sweet to watch! She's exploring and discovering the world just like any other child, and she's curious about the world around her. You are a great teacher to her :)
what a cute little one. My daughter learnt to walk at this childs age using the tiniest walking sticks her father had made for her to try to help her with disability.
Wonderful teacher, we need more people like her.
I love seeing how you made using her cane into a game with the little side to side sing song. I work with disabled children and they always seem to enjoy making games and songs out of the tasks they have to do. One little girl used to sing to her feeding tube and count how many vials she took during a feeding :) This little girl is precious and I'm sure will more than over come her difficulties :)
This video had me in tears the whole way through. May God bless this little girl, she is so precious and has touched my heart. Well done to the trainer, I wouldn't know the first thing about being blind, but this video has really shown me the little things we take for granted. She is so cute. I can't believe 7 people would dislike the video. Carry on the great work!
Such a sweetie. Heartwarming video.
She's so cute !
I LOVE HER....SMART LITTLE COOKIE
This video had a powerful impression on me too. The love it shows was beautiful and really helped me on a day I was feeling a little down. It is a great reminder of what we should all be focused on. Each other. And of course I cried a little too (tears of gratitude)
omg she's so precious.
It shouldn't be heartbreaking. I'm totally blind and 13 years old. I don't have to have an aid with me all the time. I just hope this vi department treats the girl right. I've seen vi departments that do not treat th3e kids right at all. I trust that this department treats her right.
Omg breaks my heart!! She is so sweet and is doing so good
This is such a precious video :)
She is adorable!
Aw baby. I love all of this encouragement. Yay
most adorable child
The lady training her is so amazing, her voice , makes me cry so much,
im crying... bless her
SHe is sooo precious. May God bless her always!!!
She is so funny and smart
She is so awesome I am sure she’ll thrive and grow to a beautiful woman.
God bless this little angel.
... I can stop this sad feeling, bless you little angel ...
She is too cute lol omg!!!!
This is great! I have had parents who will not allow their blind children to go outside resulting in very handicapped teenagers. Then I have had parents whose children were not told what they could not do and they have accomplished so much on their own! This baby has a head start! YAY!
these teachers are amazing!
may God bless this girl always
May God bless her. She's
a brave little toddler.
This vid made me cry not for the little girl but for myself for taking things for granted in life and look at this precious angel learning to to use her cane....she is not blind we are.
It's good to know she is doing great.
Smart girl
God bless this little one.
this child is an angel and a blessing I will keep her in my prayers
what a adorable girl god bless her
I will never understand why anyone would dislike this. Their is way to many negative people in this world
No words to appreciate the efforts of Mom.
God bless her, she is a beautiful child.
I had no idea children this young could learn to use a cane!
She's a doll. All the best to her.
Yesica1993
Before anyone gets a guide dog 🐕 they have to learn to use a cane first.
What A Amazing mother. To be blessed with a Child that can hear her voice , Walk with her two little feet and be hugged daily with her two hands!
She's so precious.
This little girl is a testament to the human spirit and all good luck and best wishes to you!
I commend parents for taking the time to start their visually impaired children off right to get them used to mobility aids and independent travel. Bravo!
Plus she's just so cute walking around with her tiny little white cane :)
It is a complete privilege watching this. It shows how fully-ables folks take so many things for granted, yet those who are born not so lucky, embrace life with twice the courage. Good job taking such good care of her, she's unbelievably beautiful in every sense of the word.
this has to be one of the cutest things I have seen
That's heartbreaking, precious and inspiring all at the same time.
This is so insparational God bless them
so beautiful. so adorable. smiling from ear to ear.
Beautiful. Humanity at its finest. Well done.
How is she doing now? Any new vids of her progress?
she is adorable ! yes ! i knewa lady who was dd me and legally blind and her parents neer taught her cane travel... and she in her 60s could not navigate at all without somebody holdign her and she also startled and would...well... go on herself... because she was neer taught self help skills and to navigate !.. yes blind kids should be introed to the canes and simiar when theyare crawling, and a child that is not walking should be introed to wheelchairs.. ones that are functional and are set up to encourage self propulsion !! way to go lil one !
Still love it! 💘
Feeling blessed just seeing it. Gratitude and compassion.
I am sure no one likes a child not being completely healthy, but a person should enjoy that a child like this has those in her life that will make her little life as enjoyable as possible.
She is so adorable.
So glad there is patient people in the world to help and teach. This video makes me sad alittle
God bless this angel! Dont ever let anything stop you. Keep inspiring us. Your a role model to many of us at such a young age. Keep it baby girl!

Touched me deeply in my heart .Lovely L'iL girl .Cheers From Boston , Massachusetts .
exactly. it's really cool because i don't have to ask people to go on there for me. its awesome.
What a brave little cutie!!😊 it's so interesting to see how fast as well as afficient we adapt to new or scary situations/tasks. Great video thanks for sharing.
We were never taught to use the cane in residential school. I wish they had. They thought they were teaching us to be blind.
I was born legally blind, but in school they taught us how to be sighted, but not so much how to function blindly.
Omg she is soo cute i want to hug her
I know some folks are saying this is sad, but she's happy obviously. It's different, and its a pain in the neck some times, but blindness isn't any big tragedy, and I'm glad that the little girl is learning so early.
This is absolutely awe inspiring.
What an adorable little bunny. I hope she's doing well.
Awesome video of an amazing little girl! I'm in O&M and would love to see more videos like these on UA-cam. Most of the kids I've worked with are some of the most fun and outgoing you'll meet. Thanks for sharing this video!
I am also blind and love using my cane.
So good. She is very good with her cane skills. I love it.
That is the cutest thing, ever. Once she felt that grass with the came, she was determined to find it with her hands lol
Is the lady a trainer? If so, she's absolutely awesome! I can only begin to imagine what the world feels like for a blind child, even though my boyfriend is blind and I've known him for 11 years now.
Yes, I was her Orientation and Mobility Instructor. Love my profession!!!
Very good work,I guide a blind runner.
I talk with him constantly as we run.
