Lupe has left a really bad taste in my mouth when he said that Drake’s diss tracks were better than Kendrick’s but then revealed that he didn’t even listen to Kendrick’s songs. Jealously is so ugly. Lupe is my goat and i believe he’d murder kendrick lyrically.. but i absolutely agree with this. His personality has always been the thing holding him back. I wish he’d stop self sabotaging
The condescension from Lupe is off-putting. While I understand that he is well read and has a relatively firmer grasp of the English *grammar* than a lot of rappers, I do not see how that equates to rap superiority. Raps are (well, should be) fueled by depth of feeling and thoughtfulness - aspects that are not primarily dependent on grammatical prowress. Reception of the raps are dependent on how *effectively* those aspects are conveyed. I personally find Kendrick's art more relatable and accessible, even though my background is more similar to Lupe's than Kendrick's. His continued detraction from Kendrick's accomplishments and abilities over a 'slight' is immature and irrational, and wildly contradicts all the academic, well-read, posturing that he likes to lead with.
It's ironic to say this because then that takes away from the thoughtful rap lupe has made and just shows that most aren't familiar with his work. I don't get what's so hard for people to get about lupe being a better rapper and kendrick making better music and the better artist.
@@Capybara_Sloth I don't quite understand the irony - please elaborate. I am not taking away from Lupe's artistry. I just find Kendrick's art more accessible, and Lupe's off wax antics, ironically enough, serve as additional barriers to his music.

Lupe is every condescending, uppity, arrogant cliche about the smart kid who reads and tells people theyll work for him in the future as an insult.
the thing with a lot of highly intellectual people is that they tend to over rely on their intellect when it comes to worldview, they tend to be more idealistic rather than realistic, they have trouble accepting reality as it is because their brains imagine a superior reality, cleansed of what they consider to be wrong, which leads them to try to correct what has never been corrected and probably never will be, and that makes them sad, angry, hopeless and most importantly in this case (i think) jealous and resentful of the people that can find happiness and hope in the world as it is. That's a big difference between KDot and Lupe in my opinion. While Kendrick is obviously a very smart human being, he's way more spiritual in the way that he sees reality, he accepts it because is God's creation and ultimately it's all in God's hands, he is still hopeful about humanity and how to better ourselves as humans, but he is HUMBLE, and even when his ego gets the best out of him, he accepts God's will over everything. Also I second the previous commenter about the bkgrnd music being a bit too overpowering. Otherwise thank you and much appreciated take from a true fan of both talents
I both love Lupe and Kendrick and don’t think Lupe is hating. Lupe calls himself a Kendrick fan, has congratulated Kendrick’s achievements and has used Kendrick’s work as an example of a stellar performance of lyricism. He’s also been quite critical of Kendrick and usually it’s when he’s being directly compared to Kendrick. Every rapper has the right to feel they’re the best. It’s hip hop and it’s competitive. Their egos (Kendrick and Lupe’s) are about the same size. Only reason why Lupe is seen as a hater is because he’s not huge right now. If he was selling 200 k first week still this conversation wouldn’t seem so one sided
I think there would have been more of a future for lupe if kanye didnt crash out at the vmas. He could've taken lupe back under his wing at good. Idk why lupe never signed to good. I know Jay was in charge of his contracy up until like 09-2010 When the lasers thing came our and he and BoB were trying to compete for songs. Basically a forcefil failed pop era. But idk I think lupe at good would've avoided most of this because A. He probably would've released CRS and the LupeEND trilogy. Due to Kanyes more lax handling of artists. Both of which would've put him damn near kendrick.
Great video that sums up all my beliefs about the two..also i would throw in imo the jealousy he has for Kendrick for all of LA to really get behind him and crown him where as Chicago really never gave him just dues..just my opinion
Lupe needs to be accountable for his actions and decisions for his own career like other rappers have he is bitter and jealous it’s pathetic I used to like him but something about him was off to me like drake
Just some constructive criticism from a viewer. There's quite a lot of editing issues in your video. 1. Parts of the beginning of the vid has some spots where the audio repeats. Think it happened twice. 2. Later on one of the songs that plays, the jersey club one, was way louder than your voice. 3. As for voice, you should edit out a lot of the filler words, mistakes in script reading, etc. 4. Also you should consider splicing in some B roll footage instead of just the 1 image the entire video. Other than that, good video. As a fellow Kendrick Lamar fan and a Genzier who enjoyed listening to Lupe's Royce the 5'9 diss I enjoyed hearing a perspective from a fan of both artist.
I think Kendrick not mentioning Lupe in control was more he is above being mentioned. He couldn’t mention everybody anyway lol I’m a fan of both so hope they get it together Saying this is not for lyricist wasn’t a slight to lyricist. That album just wasn’t a lyrical album. He wanted it to be direct.
Yeah mentioning Lupe is that class wouldn’t have made sense. I always thought mentioning Push was out of place too. Although you could argue he was (kind of) a new comer as a solo artist.
Nas has always and will always be my favorite rapper. Kendrick has crept up to my 2nd with Pac. Lupe was in my top 5. Somewhere between 3 and 5. I was a die hard fan for many many years. His music got me through some parts of my life that I'll never forget. But his fall for me began after his take on the Shot... voicing everyone should get it and if you didn't you were an idiot. I actually unfollowed him on IG because of that. Then his sneak disses against kendrick since SLR2 or something. Can't remember which one but he was always a lowkey kendrick hater that I myself didn't give kendrick an honest listen until his black panther and pimp a butterfly albums. I felt like Lupe was trying to keep his fans from becoming Kendrick fans.

Lupe is a good artist, but he is bitter because he Dot has the spot that he wish he had. He feels it should be him at the top. IMO he’s like Drake. If I can’t be on top then I’ll burn it down. One went the lawsuit route and the other is selling the entire rap industry to MIT
Kendrick Lamar, Monster freestyle he mention Lupe while mentioning nas, Kanye, Busta rhyme and Eminem That’s some respect, I think it’s just that he sees the journey of Kdot and his opportunities while knowing how the industry works and I can see how even an intellectual individual like him can be annoyed, it’s the passion, He will let it go and it will make him a even better rapper, this is his challenge

Yeah lupes frustration is and always have been misguided which is kind of messed up bc it destroys his character alot tbh. This is the guy that sort of just shrugged off not knowing any Tribe lyrics at that performance an talked about not listening to their songs bc he liked street stuff but when kendrick doesn't talk about how great he is, he's mad about it or making comments that are just immature and salty overall. K dot never dissed lupe and mad other rappers that lupe has respect for hasn't shouted him out or big him up (drake) so his actions seem very pathetic and bitter. He likes to blame it on the fans or media but the media never said he thought k dot wasn't a good lyricist or that logic was way better than him or that he's not that good lyrically or that he can write songs like kendrick. None of those comments are media or fan lead an he never takes accountability for it or retracts those statements
Yo, he didn't listen to the tracks, but Drakes better. I... I kinda just quit on him tbh. His smug tone is grating enough, but that moment. That was it. Musics good, but damn dog, I couldn't not see that as something other than jealousy

Your piece is missing a lot of necessary nuance. Lupe wasn't invited to Coachella by Tyler... He was on the lineup. Lupe made the Coachella declaration after that XXLMag article came out about "every rapper who has apologized to Kendrick Lamar" and listed him implying that he was afraid of Kendrick. This could've been any rapper and Lupe's reaction would've been the same. If you follow Lupe you know he's quick to correct the record and clap back when his name is being disparaged. You also fail to mention all the praise Lupe has given to Kendrick's work all the way up to as recently as 2022 when he said: "Reporting from Hawaii. Exceptional work Mr. Lamar." in response to Dot dropping MMATBS. He also said TPAB should be turned into a play.
enjoying your content but the song playing about 15 minutes in is so loud compared to your voice that its really distracting and hard to listen to you. for me at least, much love though
Tbh maybe its just for attention. As you said, you first heard him from kidz bop(which is wild tbh) so obviously your gen doesnt take him seriously but you are a reactive and opinionated sort. I'm surprised he would say dot isnt top 100/not better than Logic but that seems like bait to me. And if 50 can do it, why not lupe? It just doesnt seem that serious.
I agree though, most people in my gen don't really care about Lupe or check for him. And I think that Lupe on multiple occasions has called out Kendrick for this. 50 and Kendrick have a much different relationship
Lupe is a hater. Let's be real. he doesn't like that Kendrick is respected as an intellectual artist. Kendrick getting a Pulitzer bothers him because Lupe does stuff like teach college classes on rap and doesn't get that kind of love. Lupe is also a weird elitist. He thinks he's smarter than everyone and thinks he has more elevated taste than everyone else. He straight up thinks anyone that disagrees with him is dumb and treats them as such.
That weird elitist observation is an understatement. He really thinks he's BETTER than you, and he shrouds it as tongue and cheeks, but if you listen..
Isn’t it literally the opposite though? I read somewhere that he was being investigated for H trafficking and he went into conscious music to distance himself from that life

So glad I clicked this. Love your perspective. Would love to hear your thoughts on the current chatter with Lupe’s involvement in the hiphop/Ai scene. Also I second the previous commenter about the bkgrnd music being a bit too overpowering. Otherwise thank you and much appreciated take from a true fan of both talents
Glad you enjoyed the video. I might make another video on that later 👍🏽
Lupe is my second favorite rapper after Phonte, but I tend to tell people that when he isn’t rapping, he’s usually doing something stupid.
I know Jay was in charge of his contracy up until like 09-2010
When the lasers thing came our and he and BoB were trying to compete for songs.
Basically a forcefil failed pop era.
But idk
I think lupe at good would've avoided most of this because
I see that for sure. I think Lupe's situation is a bit different considering how Chicago is and who was putting him on back in the day.
Lupe needs to be accountable for his actions and decisions for his own career like other rappers have he is bitter and jealous it’s pathetic I used to like him but something about him was off to me like drake
It's not an accountability thing, I just think he could air out his problems in a more productive way or just leave it alone
My 2 favorite rappers but Lupe been trippin like a mf
Never realized the similarities between Tetsuo and Youth and Damn until you pointed it out. Thanks!
@@pyrexo Fs The Company Man (Justin Hunte) made a great video on this in 2018
I wish Lupe was just cooler as a rap personality. This Kendrick thing of his really stings my image of him, personally.
As a fellow Kendrick Lamar fan and a Genzier who enjoyed listening to Lupe's Royce the 5'9 diss I enjoyed hearing a perspective from a fan of both artist.
still waiting for reincarnated..
Lmaooo
@@orewayasuke888 so will u do it???
Just to add more emphasis on it Lu lost a ton of endorsements on the back of those Obama comments.
Man, I really wanna hear your take but that music in the background is a bit much. Its all love though, imma rewind and try again lol
@@scroopynoopers9824 sorry lol maybe try with closed captions 😭
I think Kendrick not mentioning Lupe in control was more he is above being mentioned. He couldn’t mention everybody anyway lol I’m a fan of both so hope they get it together
Saying this is not for lyricist wasn’t a slight to lyricist. That album just wasn’t a lyrical album. He wanted it to be direct.
Yeah mentioning Lupe is that class wouldn’t have made sense.
I always thought mentioning Push was out of place too. Although you could argue he was (kind of) a new comer as a solo artist.
@@Jefflon_Zuckergates yeah my name is my name was his debut or at least sophomore solo album since starting his solo career at good around that time
Kendrick and Lupe are very good 1 and 2 favorite rappers
At... Some point the music in the video became hilariously loud, I kinda imagined you yelling out the script over your lil bros music or something 😂
Yep. He tried to keep his fans from liking Kendrick music.
This video started out so good.
I’m here for the nerdy rap chat but then THE MUSIC 😂 I felt like I was in a fever dream 😳
I dunno what happened but my adhd/ autistic a** almost turned my tv off! Good thing I didn’t it sorted itself out after a few😅
Nice think piece tho
Glad you enjoyed lmao
Lupe is a good artist, but he is bitter because he Dot has the spot that he wish he had. He feels it should be him at the top. IMO he’s like Drake. If I can’t be on top then I’ll burn it down. One went the lawsuit route and the other is selling the entire rap industry to MIT
@@FatLady-u9l Gotta disagree with that
@@orewayasuke888 listen bruh you gotta be honest with yourself if you dont see it.
@@orewayasuke888 what’s your take on the betrayal?
Kendrick Lamar, Monster freestyle he mention Lupe while mentioning nas, Kanye, Busta rhyme and Eminem
That’s some respect, I think it’s just that he sees the journey of Kdot and his opportunities while knowing how the industry works and I can see how even an intellectual individual like him can be annoyed, it’s the passion,
He will let it go and it will make him a even better rapper, this is his challenge
@@baroannicolas8624 Thank you for enlightening me on this
Nah that death of slim shady definitely getting way more play
Yeah from cringy white millennials lmao
Samurai is straight up beautiful. My personal favorite from last year, even if it didn’t have mass appeal my headphones ate that shit up
It's not really about the number of plays, it's about the album quality and critical reception.
I definitely liked M&M’s album better than Lupe’s album and that’s not being a stan. I just like that album better.
Fair
Great video, but either way it wasnt recreated from memory at 4AM
Love a video, just wish the music was a bit quieter
Thank you 👍🏽
Is the beat in the background the These Walls beat chopped up?
Enjoyed the vid, you already know bout the music by now
Thank you for listening lol
Hey man, the backing track is WAY TOO LOUD, please turn it all the way down.
Yo, he didn't listen to the tracks, but Drakes better. I... I kinda just quit on him tbh. His smug tone is grating enough, but that moment. That was it. Musics good, but damn dog, I couldn't not see that as something other than jealousy
I'm definitely putting both vultures over that lupe album
How so
I can definitely understand that. Fuk Sumn and River are higher highs than anything on Samurai
@@orewayasuke888 I just love both vultures album big Ye fan. I couldn't even get through lupe album it was too confusing. Amy Winehouse battle rap album 😵💫 I was like what the heck going on here but I did like one song. The concept kinda wird to me doe ngl

I'm enjoying the content, but check the level of the music. I'm listening on phone speakers and the music around 17 minutes is hella distracting.
But I appreciate the context. My only real impression of Lupe was from his feature on Touch the Sky, and I wasn't very impressed from that. I'll check him out.
@@Marquis-w1i Thank you for the additional insight.
Dude chill out with the background music can't hear you at some point
enjoying your content but the song playing about 15 minutes in is so loud compared to your voice that its really distracting and hard to listen to you. for me at least, much love though
He's my second favorite rapper ever lol
I agree though, most people in my gen don't really care about Lupe or check for him. And I think that Lupe on multiple occasions has called out Kendrick for this. 50 and Kendrick have a much different relationship
This is so nerdy omg
Lol thx
16:00 LMAO
Lupe is a hater. Let's be real. he doesn't like that Kendrick is respected as an intellectual artist. Kendrick getting a Pulitzer bothers him because Lupe does stuff like teach college classes on rap and doesn't get that kind of love. Lupe is also a weird elitist. He thinks he's smarter than everyone and thinks he has more elevated taste than everyone else. He straight up thinks anyone that disagrees with him is dumb and treats them as such.
I disagree
He got destroyed by Royce as far as I'm concerned.
That weird elitist observation is an understatement. He really thinks he's BETTER than you, and he shrouds it as tongue and cheeks, but if you listen..
@@osirisra1476 first I've seen this take
Y’all don’t make sense. Kendrick got a Pulitzer before Lupe ever was a professor
Wait... You're Gen Z? Unsubscribed. I only listen to balding old heads

Why cant an artist have an opinion without being jealous?
No one said artists can't, my opinion on this specific case is that Lupe is jealous. You are free to disagree
