You're welcome - and yeah...the craziest part to me was that even though the outfits are clearly different sizes, they all work on different sized AG dolls!
I am lucky enough to have both of the old outfits from when they came put.
They were my daughter's at the time. She had a red jumper, so it was easy to get the AG tights and she had a matching outfit. She used it a lot and hers/ours is still in pristine condition. I am so surprised so many have had bad luck with that one. The Millennium outfit i was never too keen on but now I am glad we kept it. 😊😊😊
I think you're definitely an outlier having a pristine RVJ outfit after all these years!

Of course!! I know specific measurements can be more helpful than "runs small" or "fits most larges". And yeah...I wish AG would acknowledge the diverse bodies of their adult collectors (AND the child AG fans that would benefit from larger sizes as well).
I enjoyed the positive observations of the newly released items. I'm grateful that I was able to order some things for my Nicki.

I ordered the size large human shirt and I’m hoping it fits, I’m pretty reliably a large in women’s T-shirts so we’ll see! The texture/material of the new red vinyl jumper (the RVJ if you will) looks like the girl-sized vinyl outfits they came out with at the same time as the original doll outfit. Now… I just need AG to tell us which dolls Nicki and Isabel have! For Halloween I’m dressing Isabel up as Samantha and Nicki as Kirsten 😂.

Happy Anniversary! 🥳🍾🎉🎈Kennedy is cute, she’s a full figure gal. My favorite outfit is the old version of the red jumper and boots. Too much shine in the new one. The camera is hysterical, so big lol.
Thanks - it was a very nice anniversary. Kennedy definitely needs a color restoration but she's one of Grace's two childhood dolls, so she'll stay and maybe someday we'll restore her eyebrows and color lol.

Agreed about the boots! And we had a lovely time: American Girl shopping, The Melting Pot for cheese, chocolate, and a cocktail, and then we did the SUPER exciting date night stuff - hit up Target to buy bathmats and a shower curtain to go with the bathroom after I just painted it lol.
Happy Anniversary (a couple days late) to you both! My spouse and I will celebrate our 46th in Dec. We are at the Oregon coast and having a great time. I met a lovely lady whose family has been here 100+ years and he gave me a copy of a photo of her great grandmother enjoying a bathing beauty moment in 1910. The swimsuits are epic and I am going to try and reproduce one for Samantha or Nellie. 🌊🌊🌊

Thank you so much for the comparison of the red jumper. I had the original when I got my second "Girl of Today" doll way back when. When I saw the release I was initially excited but then almost immediately wary, because I knew it wouldn't be the same. I'm both unsurprised but disappointed; I also think when it comes to them rereleasing old items, it becomes super apparent how the quality has changed. Old PC stuff was basically regular clothes in miniature (where possible). New AG stuff is just... eh to me. But I'm also still bitter about the changes 😂
So here is a maybe unpopular opinion...I'm actually okay with them switching to vinyl in the back of the RVJ outfit. It puts a lot of strain on the material of the original one every time I unsnap those VERY snug snaps and I always worry it's going to contribute to cracking. And that won't happen with the new one. Would I rather it be less shiny? Yes. But it doesn't feel that different in quality to be honest. Different materials, but not necessarily inferior ones.
I cannot believe I have never come across your videos before. Thank you for opening and reviewing these items! I was super excited for the slumber party kit and the movie kit but some things are a bit disappointing. I cannot believe the flashlight did not turn on! I am super disappointed they didn't just make the flashlight work. I had that set too and also remember the confetti soap! I also wanted the video to say Blockbuster and I already have a million popcorn/movie sets from AG and OG so I think I will be skipping those. Since I don't have a store anywhere near me videos like these are so helpful. Subscribed :). Thank you!
I'm so glad you stumbled across my channel :-) Who knows how long we'll have a store near us (since several of the smaller ones have closed in the past few years) but as long as we do, I'll try to go do periodic store tours and I always try to give a thorough look at the new stuff we get so ppl who can't see it first in person can still make informed purchases :-)

AG has always had a scale issue. They continuously make bar type food items way too large, almost child size.
I like the fit of the newer clothes, but the colors of the older clothes.
Luckily for me all I want from this release is the AGOT black tee for dolls. I like only spending $12.
Spending only $12 is great. I'm so grateful that we have family members who support us enough to give us gift cards. If not for that, our haul would've been smaller and we'd have spaced our purchases out. Thanks, btw, for the well wishes. We had a lovely evening (though the next morning came with a painful reminder that we don't handle liquor well - we only had one cocktail each but woke up feeling like we'd been out partying all night lol)

I will take the one I can actually get! Thankfully I have the old boots and I bought the beret, if I want those classic touches. We actually still have an air popper just like the one in that set, so that's adorbs. I never really liked the Y2K outfit, even when it first came out, so I'm not too fussed. Love this detailed look at everything, and enjoyed Grace's commentary from offscreen! Thank you for sharing.

You made such a good point that AG is not consistent with the sizing of their food. It’s literally all over the place, hopefully they realize soon & try to make some appropriate sizing for the food. Such a fun haul & it’s great that you guys used all your gift cards on this :)
Yes, we definitely wouldn't have gotten everything at once without those gift cards - I'm so grateful we have family members who are supportive and humor us for gift-giving occasions :-) And I have been wanting to do a video highlighting the hilarious size disparities for a while now. I'll get to it sometime soon(ish).
The original vinyl jumper looks like leather the new one looks like patent leather. I like the shiny one.😍
I think they're both great and am really happy they brought both of these outfits back. I wonder if they'll be a hit with younger kids.

The doll sized VHS tape is so sweet and nostalgic, though, oh my gosh. I love the heart behind this whole release so much, even if the outfits aren't exactly the same (and despite some dubious design choices). Really would have loved to the beret return, though. Sigh.
I wholeheartedly agree about this release and I'm LOVING seeing people's genuine joy over it. Also...a video about the inconsistent proportions in AG has been on my to-film list for six months, so it might not happen this week, but it WILL happen lol.

I still have my set from 1998 lol it’s a big deal! I bought the black AG tee in adult, kid, and doll size and the slumber party kit. I’m waiting patiently for them to arrive!!

Very good video! I was excited when I saw the red jumper outfit was coming out and was also bummed as I had just finally found the outfit complete for only$20 with a little peeling on it! But, now I am happy with my outfit. I will look for an original new years outfit as I like it better. I think the older outfits are better quality with better details!
For the Year 2000 outfit, the quality seems almost identical, except for the shoes and velcro instead of a zipper on the skirt. I think visually, the difference in hue is the biggest difference in the old vs. new version. I'm glad you were able to find the red vinyl jumper affordably. Were you lucky enough to get the hat, necklace, and/or the little lunchbox purse with it?

It was astonishing to see the differences between the old and new and I’m so glad you showed the differences side by side!

Re: giving my measurements, I figured it is a lot more helpful to provide exact numbers than to say it's a 'typical' large, or "runs small", etc. Plus...let's normalize sharing that information a bit more :-) And yes, I felt like I was in a unique position having both older and newer dolls and both older and newer outfits so I wanted to show them side by side. I agree...it was super surprising to see them side by side!

Happy Anniversary! ❤ Thanks for the in depth review of the new items! I think I prefer the old Y2K outfit, but the new one is a good dupe despite minor differences. I’m excited to get a RVJ that doesn’t peel for the foreseeable future. I’ve had 4 peel, 3 were peeled before I even got them. The AGOT slumber party bag is my favorite, though I definitely miss the washcloth and confetti soap. Did Grace use her soap as a kid? That was definitely a draw for me. I bet it would be easy to craft. Love the logo shirts, too.

Knowing Grace, I would bet she didn't use her confetti soap. She is a collector at heart. But maybe. And it would definitely be easy to craft. Future short video? Perhaps.

So cute! Love the comparisons. I will note if this helps Grace's sanity, the photos we're driving me insane too, but if they're using disposable cameras in theory they wouldn't have the physical camera and photos from New Years at the same time, so the photos would have to be from an old camera.
Fair, but they could have worn the outfits before (so pics with no NYE hats and 2000 glasses) and that would have been great. I'm glad you enjoyed the video!

It's not exactly the same design but there's something similar on teepublic that is much more size-inclusive.
As someone who is lgbt+, I love that there are other lgbt+ collectors. I’m also from Ohio (paulding, bleh - and I went to BGSU) so just finding your channel is amazing. Thank you for making great content! I live in MN now so it was easier to go to the benefit sale - but sad that the MOA store closed. It’s my dream part time job.
The cups should have had that teal swirl pattern that was big in the 90s.
I'm so glad you're enjoying the channel, and I'm happy to add to the queer representation on agtube. I hope AG still ends up doing a benefit sale partnership with *someone* but whether or not they do (and if so, where and how) remains to be seen. Also, we toured Bowling Green when my older daughter was looking at colleges. She narrowed it down to Miami and Kent and eventually went with Kent but BGSU was a good tour - I remember they had a great approach for undecided students that no other college we visited had.

I'm glad that the newer clothes fit older dolls pretty well! I think both older outfits fit pretty loose and frumpy on the old doll, I prefer the newer/tighter fit, so this was a great comparison! Thanks so much for the video.
I am disappointed the red dress is a different material, but if this this means it won't peel over time I'm okay with it.
I think a lot of people are with you on that last point - if it means the red vinyl jumper will stand the test of time, the difference in appearance is fine. And yes - the red outfit in particular is loose on *all* AG dolls, so the newer ones are more fitting.
Im wanting to get 2 of doll AGOT shirt for the twins. I hope AG does something similar for the later AGOT logo with blue and polka dots.

Happy Anniversery !!!! I purchased the red vynal jumper because my original on is ruined. I hae not decided on the year 200 outfit yet. I did not order a shirt because i was afraid of the sizes. i am a true XL. I got new doll shirts and will get my granddaughters shirts from the store so I can see the sizes for them. I have the movie night set and the hair set in my online shopping bag so thanks for showing it because I really only want the hot air popper and the blockbuster video box. I have the original hair set but I want the bag so buying the set again. I wished the air popper made noise. On the dirinks i think they dont want to split cola fans.
It's not exactly the same, but Teepublic has shirts with a similar design in more sizes. And I completely agree about wishing the popcorn popper made sound. And when you take your granddaughters to the store, they could wear tank tops and try the shirts on. That's what I did because I didn't want to bother with a return.

I saw the shirt in stores. I decided to not get it because it’s not my style and I’m afraid I would never wear it but I’m usually a medium and the medium is true to what my other mediums from other places are. Idk why they don’t ever even go up to extra large even in kids sizes! It’s annoying because I would fit into the kids xl but the kids large is a bit tight 🤦🏻♀️

My old air popper had a little cup on the top that you coukd put butter in so it would melt.
I'll have to see if my mom's has that. I don't know that the one she has is the one from my childhood, but if it isn't it is pretty similar. Aah, the memories!

They could surprise us and do it yet. Apparently the "24 hours only" AGOT outfits they (re)released today sold out already, so they're definitely seeing there's a demand for 90s stuff right now.

PC means Pleasant Company (the original name of the company now known as American Girl). The sleepover stuff is SO fun. Ang guess what? Tonight three of our adult doll collector friends are spending the night (with their dolls, of course) so we're going to break out that sleepover set!

IDK - I had disposable cameras a few times in my life and they were never really any bigger than my other cameras. This thing is just comically huge.
They only have the one toothbrush for the twins in the sleepover so it don't make since so the twins are gonna share a toothbrush
I think it makes sense. Most companies aren't making things specifically for twins. They make stuff for individuals. So if my friend wants to get stuff for her twin girls, she'd expect to buy two sleepover sets because each would only have one toothbrush. Same for these fictional twins.
One of our Facebook doll groups has started to make larger adult sizes (shhh don’t tell AG)

Talking about the size of the things they make. Have you ever compared the measuring spoon set with the measuring cups set ? Not sure why but the tablespoon is about the same size as the 1/4 cup measuring cup. That annoys me. Kids probably won't know the difference until they get into cooking. It might surprise them and maybe even confuse them.
LMAO no I hadn't put the two side by side but if/when I get around to doing a video having a laugh at the proportions I'm definitely going to include this :-)
@@agtakesover My biggest annoyance with AG is the smaller cut clothing. At the end of this video you showed that comparing the old with the new. Shorter sleeves and cropped shirts and jackets. Especially bothers me with the turquoise jacket that came with the Truly Me outfit that came on the dolls about 2018 - 2019. Makes me think that these are clothes that they are just about to grow out of and they need new clothes. Most people buy their kids outfits that are a little big and let them grow into them over the school year so that they last at least 7 or 8 months. A particular pet peeve is the length of the sleeves because I have long arms and back in the 60's and 70's sleeves on women's clothing were way too short for me. I bought men's shirts a lot. They fit better (wider chest, longer arms and longer body length). So I notice this a lot.
Ah, its kind of depressing to see the less attention to detail in modern AG 😅 but still super cute!!
I was happy that the bat costume this year had a zipper rather than velcro. I don't think they have stopped making quality items, but it's definitely more hit or miss now.

I'm 4 foot 7ins got a feeding tube and port o cath. I like my shirts looser. So from what i know with ag girl's clothes their tigher fit around the chest and stomach. Then the Pants, skirts are Bigger.
Well they did expand the sizing options on the human-sized AGOT shirt, so that's good.

Oh, I think it's vinyl. Just like paint and plastic have different sheens (from flat all the way to glossy) I think there are lots of variants. It's definitely a *different* vinyl but still vinyl.

It's set to motion-sensitive. If I don't move near the sensor for 25 seconds it turns off. But then I'd move in just the right way and cause it to turn on again lol.

There is a LOT to be said about the worry-free factor. For most people's sake, I wish the RVJ boots and shirt were an even closer match to the original, but I still think they're very nice and on a personal level I like that the differences mean we got something a little different to add to our collection.
