Inside Elizabeth Mayhew's stylish Hudson Valley home...

- Style maven Elizabeth Mayhew gives us a tour of her fabulous home where no detail goes unnoticed! Tucked away in New York’s Hudson Valley, a former 1940s cheese factory has become a beacon of style. The structure is an anomaly for Dutchess County residences, where Greek Revival piles or postcard-perfect farmhouses are the norm, but from the moment she saw it, she recounts, “I knew I could do something amazing.” The agrarian-industrial building boasts become the living and dining rooms. “People walk in and get this Alice in Wonderland feeling, because the proportions are so unexpected,” Mayhew says. Not to mention all that natural light: “Even if it’s 12 degrees outside, it’s sunny in here. I’ve never had orchids do so well.”
The space had already been a residence, but friend and architect Gil Schafer helped Mayhew further shape it, adding a bedroom suite and opening things up for a freer flow. She chose plain sisal for many of the floors, the upholstery is mostly small-scale prints and neutral stripes, and floor-to-ceiling curtains are in subtle patterns and colors, “so as not to detract from the expanse of green outdoors.”
A devotee of Scandinavian furniture, Mayhew chose pieces for the house that span numerous eras, from a Gustavian settee to a Saarinen table. Series of felt-on-felt compositions by William J. O’Brien and oil painitng by Ewa Juszkiewicz.
In the living room, plenty of seating at varying heights amounts to a welcoming space fit for a wide range of uses. Vintage chairs in their original muslin, a custom sofa in linen and a fluffy moroccan rug give the neutral scheme plenty of textural variation.
In the dining room, the oval Saarinen table sits front and center, but folding tables can be pulled out of storage to accommodate a larger crowd. “I can set up four rounds throughout the room, or one long table for 24,” she says. “I pull up various chairs and banquettes, and the Saarinen becomes a sideboard for buffet-style suppers. Everything is adaptable and easy.”
Mayhew used a dreamy, chinoiserie-style pattern on the walls of the master bedroom - the silhouetted branches and trees echo the real things outside the windows. She balanced handsome tones with creams and pastels for an effect that’s soft without feeling too girlie.

Flipping Gorgeous Taste!…You’re Such a Vibrant, Brilliant, Beautiful Lady!
I love her. I like humble people. I hate show off idiotic ones 🥰
The first floor, eh but the bedrooms, bath and floors were so fresh and fun. Wish we could have stayed longer!
👍
This is exactly how I DO NOT want my house to look like.
Why was this so rushed? Could have spent a lot more time with this lovely lady.
nope
Some people should not do close-ups.
@@hadrianwall-r7h Mean?, I'm trying to help
You are an arse.
I love this lady... great smile!
So agree re all things Swedish (although I would broaden to all things Scandinavian). Could look at all things Scandinavian for years. They achieve the seemingly impossible. Their designs are so perfect but comfortable and never stuffy, they do so much white but it’s never cold, they do modern but it’s always cosy, they balance old and new, simplicity and details, shape, form, function everything is just a delight to behold and a pleasure to use. From Marimekko to Gustavian, no matter the age and style, with incredible designers beyond counting, the Scandinavians do it like no-one else and it always amazes me that designs from the northernmost reaches of wintry Europe sit so well in a warm Australian climate.
You have a sweet personality
Love the second floor and the way she talks. She seems like a fun person and I kinda wish it were an hour long so that I can hear she talks more
Oh !!! How I love this house !!! Amazing thanks Schumacher ❤️😍
i love your kitchen
Thank you. I learned so much. Loved the painted floors.
To many of us your kitchen is a dream that will never come true. Enjoy, and know I would 'sell apples on the street' as the old saying goes to have your kitchen cabinets, the style and color. Love your enthusiasm and voice.
A lovely home! I enjoyed this warm presentation of it so much.
It’s a beautiful kitchen.

👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
LOVE the design, such a lovely mix of colors and textures and proportions, and also her personality, but ahh, the video! 1) would have loved to seen the outside, given that we're told it used to be a cheese factory 2) so many quick zoomed-in shots, making it hard-to-impossible get a sense of how the house is laid out, which really makes a difference. and in her daughter's bedroom - "let me show you my daughter's bedroom" - we got a zoom in on the headboard, a small side table, and that was it! that's not a bedroom tour. anyway, it seems like y'all hire different videographers for different tours as i've watched others that are done really well. hope you can hire those other folks more often ;-)
Love!
...
Nicely done!!

I'm getting so many good tips from this lovely lady- she is really good at explaining things and her home styling shows how things can work (for example, stripes!)
The fake smile is everything
Hey troll, you don't know her I guess. That is authentic. You must be a miserable person. Feel really sorry for you.
