Technically, winter does not start until the solstice on December 21 and does not end until the spring equinox on March 19 so that is why I have the disclaimer. When I didn't, I had people commenting about this fact. So looks like I can't win either way :)
@@ThoughtsOnTomes you did last season and it was the first time I've ever heard about it. Guess it depends on where you're from. In our country we always used seasons by calendar (Winter being December, January and February (from first day till last) and so on).
I adored The Will and the Wilds! It gave me An Enchantment of Ravens vibes (which I also loved). You’re also right that the wildlings are very fae-like there are a lot of different varieties and cool descriptions of how they look and what their abilities are
Charlie Holmsberg gets THE best cover art - the Smoke and Summons trilogy was absolutely a cover buy and the naked hardbacks? They are SOMETHING ELSE. They're glossy and different colours and have designs on them and they feel like those books you read as a kid that were meant not to have dustjackets. Except these books do and they're just as good with or without them. I added like all of these to my TBR. Thanks Sam!
Could not stop watching your hands. Hypnotised by those nails!!! Nice selection. Dead Astronauts is a MUST for me this winter. I hadn't even heard of new (nu?) weird till watching this so thanks for the education!
I hate being the bearer of bad news, but Shorefall has been pushed back to April 21st. 😭 Was heartbroken when I found out. New Weird has become a favorite genre of mine! I read Library at Mount Char this year and it was reading reviews for that that I first heard the term, and was finally able to put a definition to some of the books I've read in the past. Excited to read some of Jeff Vadermeer's works. Your list overall is good!
I typically love Shakespeare and retellings, so I should check out Queens of Innis Lear. Also I love the cover for Shorefall even more than foundryside. I'm excited for Hollowpox coming out in January. 3rd book in the Nevermoor middlegrade series.
Loved Holmberg's Paper Magician trilogy, but if her other books are anything like that the magic and world building will be very basic and take a backseat to the romance. The premise suggests this book will depend a bit more on worldbuilding, but one could say that about Paper Magician lol. I've been meaning to read more of her other books for years. I hope you enjoy her writing!
OMG JEFF VANDERMEER I SEE JEFF VANDERMEER IVE NEVER SEEN JEFF VAMDERMEER ANYWHERE ELSE BEFORE AND NEVER HEARD OF "NEW WEIRD" THAT'S GENRE IS SUCH A GOOD WAY TO DESCRIBE IT
I’m going to try not to purchase anymore books but I’m so excited for my reading year in 2020. I have such a paired down tbr that’ll still take me 2 years to read but everything on it looks amazing 😍
I know it’s not the topic of the video, but I have a tv show I want to recommend to you that I think you’d really enjoy. It’s called the Mindy Project (with Mindy Kaling from the office, but not the same character) and there’s a really really good slow burn romance (”enemies”/ frenemies to friends to ???) and there’s a lot of bantering that I think you’d really enjoy. Plus, it’s also pretty funny
Hi i am a new subscriber and fan of ur channel and i recently got into greek mythology... i work in a nursing home and weirdly one of my patients started calling me Andromeda and i thought how silly he has dementia and he says lots of things that make no sense. Until my coworker told me who Andromeda was and I was shocked because i thought it was a made up name... so i started getting into the story of hades and persephone and i just bought the book " receiver of many" because of you and i agree .too much sex!!! Like way to much... if u find a book like the perfect book of a hades and PERSEPHONE story line PLEASE MAKE A VIDEO!! THANKS SO MUCH!! and i realize I'm into the same books you're into, so thank u for these recommendations! 💛💛😊😊😊😊😊
2 of my most anticapted is A HEART SO FIERCE AND BROKEN by: Brigid Kemmerer and THE KING OF CROWS by: Libba Bray!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i NEED BOTH LIKE YESTERDAY!!! OMG!
I'm really excited for Scavenge the Stars by Tara Sim. Is it just because of the cover, maybe. Tara is super excited for it on twitter and its rubbing off on me :)
@FiascosWitch Reads seems like only some of the low reviewers really read a lot of fantasy and for people that rated it higher they mention it's more of a character and worls building driven novel. I can see a book like that needing to find readers that love that kind of book because it's not for everyone.
I could be wrong, but I think she's talking about how she considers the whole of December to be winter, even though in the Northern hemisphere it doesn't "officially" start until the 21st. Same with it technically extending to the spring equinox on the 20-21 of March.

I've discussed this before at length. I no longer buy Jeffree Star products (and haven't in YEARS) but I am not going to throw out or not use the ones that I have because that doesn't undo the fact that the money is already spent. I include the name of every lipstick I wear in the description, but I am not a beauty channel and am not promoting, endorsing, or supporting his products. I also trust that the people that watch my channel can do their own research and make their own decisions on their purchases, books, beauty, or otherwise. I am not going to put a disclaimer about lipstick on my book videos where my lipstick is not actually relevant.
@@ThoughtsOnTomes unfortunately, if someone is new to your channel as I am if the product is in the decription box there is no possible way to know you don't support the brand. His name is synonymous with his beliefs. I don't personally think people should have to do research on a person to determine if they just wear and state the brand but don't buy it anymore or if they're a supporter of a known racist, misogynist, bully. 🤷♀️ I feel like an ass because I never comment on shit but I guess that's just life and I'd feel more like an ass to just stop watching without commenting. I hope it doesn't come across as an attack because I truly mean this as a "from a new subscriber" perspective.
Maria LeBlanc-Wiswell if his name is synonymous with his beliefs, than anyone interested in makeup would know that and won’t buy it if they don’t support those beliefs. I stand by what I said earlier. This is how I choose to handle the situation. If you would throw your products out, that’s fine and I support your decision to do that.
Winter IS December, January and February. At least it's always been in my country 😂

My dramatic self sighted soo in love when I heard magical forest, hate to love and tricky bargains... I just zoomed out in happy thoughts
Natalia Londoño right?!

ha thank you! I hadn't heard of that name for the genre either until this year but once I heard it, it was the perfect description.
Foundryside was fantastic! I'm also really excited for Burn the Dark by S.A. Hunt and Upright Women Wanted by Sarah Gailey.
All you had to say was magical forest and enemies to lovers trope and I was sold! Must have that book!
The Will and the Wilds sounds SO GOOD omg! Adding that to my TBR immediately 😂

UGH NOOO! I just checked the dates on goodreads before filming this to :(((

That green looks so nice on you ✨
SHOREFALL!!! I wasn’t initially going to read it...THEN that cover came out and I read the synopsis so here I am salivating over the next installment.
yesssss

I hope so too! The synopsis definitely makes me think that it will be very romance heavy and I'm kinda ok with that.
Well.... now I have to add The Unwilling to my “to read” list
it is law
Erin Morgenstern recommended The Unwilling when I went to her book signing so I'm there
she really is screeching about it everywhere I love her
I am so behind on all upcoming releases this was a great overview!
I cannot WAIT for “A Blight I’d Blackwings” by Kevin Hearne! It’s a sequel, and the first book, “A Plague of Giants,” was amazing! ❤︎
I added The Unwilling to my list as soon as Liberty said it was a must-read! Didn’t even bother to see what it’s about 😂
SHOREFALL!!!!!!
OKay sorry didn’t mean to scream I’m just so frickin excited about it
SAME
Ooo the cover of Lady Hotspur is so cool
Just in time. I needed more books to ask people to get me for xmas so I can add them to the pile of other books I've asked people to get me for xmas.
I got an ARC of The Will and the Wilds and it was the angsty fairy tale of my dreams.
Crissy Dressler ugh yes
OMG JEFF VANDERMEER I SEE JEFF VANDERMEER IVE NEVER SEEN JEFF VAMDERMEER ANYWHERE ELSE BEFORE AND NEVER HEARD OF "NEW WEIRD" THAT'S GENRE IS SUCH A GOOD WAY TO DESCRIBE IT
yeah as soon as I heard that genre I was like yes yes that's exactly it
Waiting for some of these to come out in paperback is going to be torture. 😱 At least it’ll give me time to move “The Hazelwood” up on my TBR.
That lipstick looks gorgeous on you Sam!
(I'm also really looking forward to Shorefall!)
I’m going to try not to purchase anymore books but I’m so excited for my reading year in 2020. I have such a paired down tbr that’ll still take me 2 years to read but everything on it looks amazing 😍
love the sweater and lipstick combo! so christmassy 😍🎄
i'm currently reading foundryside so i'm excited to get the second book!

Oh, and it’s on Hulu now
I never thought of the winter season that way...
That’s genius- STEALING IT!

Come Tumbling Down is Jan. 7th too! :)
omg I didn't even realize and it's about Jack again too I'm so excited!!
I basically need to read all the books you recommended!
Since I've moved to MN I think of winter from Nov to like April haha. It sucks.
lol you aren't wrong
The unwilling sounds really good and the cover is beautiful. Why are the few goodreads reviews all so bad? 🙁

I am excited for the children of blood and bone sequel for December
But December, January, February already are winter months? Am I missing something?😅

I don't think it's a winter release, but I'm excited for Lindsay Ellis' book in 2020!
New wired that kind of genre I want to fond books in that
Oh my GOD, that cover for Shortfall! The one I saw was nowhere near that good!
I saw the other cover somewhere and was so disappointed but yes this one is superior
Can someone explain to me how winter season could be anything BUT December, January and February?

Thanks 😊
