There's something mythical about bookbinders, cobblers, and blacksmiths. I could watch these craftsmen for hours. If I had my life to live over, I'd have apprenticed in one of these fields.
And that we can find and use hand tools -- so many of them, especially power tools, are outright dangerous for us. It's a joy to see a lefty using tools safely and with confidence and skill.
My father is left handed so I awkwardly do things he taught me how to do with my left hand instead of my dominant one. Really made me aware of how adaptable you guys are
I got to 20 minutes and had that sense of dread you get when almost finishing an episode of a great show, knowing that it would end soon and you'd have to wait for next week. Great content. I love every aspect of these videos.
It's 4.30ish am here in NZ and I'm as usual scrolling for something to watch while I prep more fibre for my spinning wheel and I see this. (Yes I spin when I can't sleep....it may not be great for the yarn, but the rhythm of spinning is very soothing) I've been waiting for this 😊 Thank you for your wonderful videos Dennis, they're a gift.
When I see how you plane off the ugly, frayed pages of the book and how they look fresh and smooth and beautiful afterwards, it fills me with joy, it's like watching a withered flower that is finally watered and blossoms again, beautiful.
I've completed my 1st rebind. It's not pretty but it wasn't supposed to be. It was a good learning experience. I'm ready to take what I've learned and start the next 1. My goal is to restore and old Bible that I got from my family that was printed in the 1800's. This is a fun hobby and I'm looking forward to learning more and getting better. stay awesome.
I'm a bookbinder and restorer myself, too and I just love your works. I've seen all of your videos (some of them multiple times) and I was able to get some really good methods differ to which I knew. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and skills with us. Keep doing it :)
Watching your videos, @Dennis, makes me appreciate haw much we owe to those who have preserved our collective history so much more. And it is a reminder that beautiful books can (and should?) be aesthetically pleasing, inside and out.
Just watched the last few months worth of videos. Not sure why they stopped appearing on my suggestions (even though I'm subbed "All"), but I'm glad you popped up. I love watching you lovingly restore old books. I really enjoyed the Dune rebinding series, as it's still one of my all time favorite series. Thanks for such wonderful content!
The Dune rebinding is also my favorite, turning one of my favorite books into a beautiful work of art. If I could, I would buy it immediately If it was gifted to me, I would be tempted to cry
The narration is clear, professional yet friendly, concise, informative, withatwinkleof humor. The videography is clean, beautiful, varied, professional. Such great videos, always. TheBob Ross of book-binding. I look forward to part 3!
I ding it’s a long process, there’s much time between steps, and It’s totally worth wait for weeks or months for every single of your videos, time a go this became in one of my favorite UA-cam channel
I'm glad I found your last video as I now have something to binge on I love the fact that you keep mentioning that you're not a professional, and like any profession, you're always learning new things .. I'll DEFINITELY be back !!
As ever, Dennis, that was totally absorbing! I become immersed in a different world, with the Tudor sounding music in the background. Thank you, my friend.
Love these videos and looking forward to part 3. I'd also like to see you do a book with deckled edges sometime. Maybe an example starting with clean edges and turning them into deckled edges? I agree these were ragged and like what you did to clean the whole thing up!
I've been reading a cozy mystery series where the main character is a bookbinder. The auto provides great detail, but there's nothing like seeing the process. I'm so glad that I found your channel. It's A Bibliophile Mystery series by Kate Carlisle.
As with every single one of your videos, I'm excited when I see you uploaded and cannot wait for the next one 😄 It's fascinating how much trimming the pages alone changes the book's entire aesthetics
Ahhh, so satisfying! Thank you for sharing this with us all. It's a lovely thing to sit down at the end of a busy day, and watch you working on this project while I enjoy some hot tea. It's very zen, even if I can't quite determine why, haha! I especially appreciate the little glances at nature outside the shop; where I live we don't get all that glorious color and wondrous mess of leaves falling. Even the oaks are 90% evergreen this far south, and I find that I really miss the autumn and winter changes. Very grateful to visit your quiet neck of the woods!
Always have been interested in book binding for some reason so subscribed in a heartbeat when UA-cam algorithm found this for me. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone stitch a book band.
I spent my formative years (in the very early 60's) in Williamsburg. We lived about 4 blocks from Old Town and my grandmother was on the Board and my father was in the Fife and Drum Corps as well in the Book Bindery. In the basement was an era printing press. I have always been fascinated with the process Dennis. I thank you for the content.
Thanks to your videos I have started bookbinding, reuniting my love for books and crafts :) I am too much of a beginner now to work with leather, but I have hope that one day I'll reach such level of skills and craftmanship :) Thank you for your work and for being an inspiration !
Your work is absolutely amazing! My husband has been watching you for awhile and he's gotten me hooked. I love books, but I never knew the intricacies of binding. Thank you for the education!
From one lefty to another, I salute you! (With my left hand, of course.) So nice to see crafting done in the direction I would do it. Such beautiful and meticulous work.
I've been using the ASMR style binding videos (Christmas carol and medieval binding) as sleep aids these last few nights, didn't expect new video today!
can't click your videos fast enough!! love how this is coming along and I can't wait to see how it turns out. thanks for being one of my new favorite channels on here-your dedication to craft is a marvel to see and we're lucky that you share it here with us!
I'm so glad you mentioned being left handed on the bands..i couldn't work out how to make them work before - so i'll try again when I do the next book!
What a wonderful tool that combination press plus plough is! Thanks for how clearly you explain what you are doing and how carefully you film so it’s easy to see what you are doing. I learn a lot from your videos.
Anti-sinister 😂 I understood that reference. I never noticed whatever your dominant hand is can affect creating the headbands. You left handed folks have it hard in a right handed world. Thanks for the video! I look forward to the cover! It’s always satisfying to watch you work. ❤
I really enjoy these videos. Your D&D volume was one of my favorites. I was curious as to where you get a lot of your supplies like the leather. Thanks again!
Thank you so much for your clear and thorough explanations, they’re so enjoyable to listen to. I feel I learn so much from every one of these projects, and I dream about trying bookbinding myself someday!
I love your job! Enjoy every video of you that I've seen. I wish some day can do at least something like you do, great, great job! Greetings from El Salvador!!!
There's something mythical about bookbinders, cobblers, and blacksmiths. I could watch these craftsmen for hours. If I had my life to live over, I'd have apprenticed in one of these fields.
I'm sure the author would've been flattered to know that you took the time to restore one of his books.
Another excellent example of your craftsmanship and artistry.
I'm left-handed too! Always love seeing left-handed makers of things and how we adapt right-handed instructions to work for us
And that we can find and use hand tools -- so many of them, especially power tools, are outright dangerous for us. It's a joy to see a lefty using tools safely and with confidence and skill.

That’s me also.
Sou brasileira, canhota e estou maravilhada com seus ensinamentos!! Obrigada!!
You're making me appreciate my older books so much more!
I got to 20 minutes and had that sense of dread you get when almost finishing an episode of a great show, knowing that it would end soon and you'd have to wait for next week. Great content. I love every aspect of these videos.
As a kid I noticed the Hollow on older books, and was somewhat intrigued, before I got to reading the books.
I could watch these videos every day and be happy.
Me too ☺️
Bro, as an enthousiastic apprentice, these videos are pure gold. Keep posting please :).
Can't wait for the end-band video.
Learning from you is always a pleasure.
I could sit and watch you and listen to your soothing voice for 24 hours a day.. totally mesmerising.
Your patience and skill are showing sir. Another great video, thanks for sharing your craft.
It is no wonder books were so expensive.
Thank you for sharing your bookbinding expertise!! It's so cool to see this type of restoration!

4:45 in east AUS right now. Such a great time to watch bookbinding

A masterpiece as always!!
Craftsmanship meets Artistary coupled with real narration ... Fabulous ... 11/10👍👍
This has been awesome to watch. Luckily it came up on my feed for the first video a few days ago. Can't wait for part 3. Thank you!
I swear I heard that book release a contented sigh after you trimmed it up.
I just found this fascinating. Great skill. Thanks for sharing. It's certainly more interesting than reading something on an iPad.
The narration is clear, professional yet friendly, concise, informative, withatwinkleof humor. The videography is clean, beautiful, varied, professional. Such great videos, always. TheBob Ross of book-binding.

You have such a pleasant voice and explain things nicely. Thank you for a nice video project.😊
Hi Dennis, well once again such a wonderful project, and so superbly executed !
Another delightful exploration of the bookbinder's craft. Thank you for sharing your skill and artistry!
The algorithm recommended part 1 to me yesterday, was absolutely thrilled to see part 2 was up today
Its crazy how much I enjoy these videos.
Not crazy at all - they're brilliant :)
I am always amazed at the amount of work it takes to do what you do. And the filming and editing as well! Your work truly is outstanding!
As ever, Dennis, that was totally absorbing! I become immersed in a different world, with the Tudor sounding music in the background. Thank you, my friend.
You Sir, are a true craftsman! I salute you o7
Lovely work so far!
And great reference to "The Raven" ;)

Beautiful! And thanks for throwing in that reference to “The Raven!” It made me smile after a long day.
I love this channel! Thank you for posting.
Totally absorbing, magic😎
As with everyone of your videos - I can‘t wait for the release of the next one. 😍
Thank you so much for the new video!🎉🎉🎉
I really love split covers - my go-to method. Also, glad you still tie your endbands.
Be sure I’ll be there for the next video. I learnt again with this one.
Thanks
Looking forward to my favorite part, the leather work! Thanks for your videos
Amazing - wonderful video. It’s exciting to wait for the next video!!!!
Lovely as always! Looking forward to the conclusion ❤
As usual, this is just amazing, Denis. Was waiting for a series like this since the Dune videos
Seeing "SAT study guide" as your wastepaper is very funny
Just what I needed today.
yay! my show is on ^_^
Awaiting the 3rd part eagerly. 👍

What a wonderful movie 😀. Thank you.
If this is how books were made, I would like to thank whoever came up with the industrial revolution
Your videos always make my book lover heart happy.
Yeahhh, finally🎉
Always have been interested in book binding for some reason so subscribed in a heartbeat when UA-cam algorithm found this for me. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone stitch a book band.
Espectacular trabajo.

Работа настоящего Мастера, на которую надо равняться. С нетерпением жду 3-го фильма. Огромное спасибо.
aww yesss, book shaving!
I’m always inspired. I’m a semi pro at book repair but I’d really like to get serious about preserving old books.
Awesome, this will be beautiful
This is some truly tremendous and meticulous work. The book is looking SO good.
Perhaps the only channel on youtube where I actually clicked the bell hahaha
Thanks to your videos I have started bookbinding, reuniting my love for books and crafts :) I am too much of a beginner now to work with leather, but I have hope that one day I'll reach such level of skills and craftmanship :)

This looks great! The way you explain the process makes me think I might possibly be able to learn how to do this.
Thanks!
Welcome!
Work of art. Well done. Thank you for sharing.
