    Saw this in my recommended and I never realized how I know absolutely nothing about not just making cosplay items/outfits, but sewing in general.
    Like, I had (and still mostly have) a vague idea that it's very complicated and very impressive, but wow, it's really interesting to watch.
    I just never considered looking up videos on people making clothes/cosplays. Oh my, here's my rabbithole for the next 2 weeks.

    Question, I know the hat fits your head + wig, do you still need to make attachments so the hat won't tumble off?

    • @SarahSpaceman
      @SarahSpaceman 3 роки тому +9

      For mine, the pigtails actually sort of hold it on, but if they hadn’t I would have put some loops in on the inside of the brim, that I could put Bobby pins through to attach to the wig.

    If you ever use the Pellon again and it's not wide enough, you can zig zag stitch them together and get the width you need without the bulk. I do it all the time when I'm short on it and need to finish a project.

    I have to make a similar giant hat for a gijinka and have run into the same Buckram issue. Instead of sewing them together like you have I was wondering I could use a zigzag stitch to piece the two haves together (with no seam allowance) and have the fusible glue help support it when fused to my felt layer. What do you think?

    • @SarahSpaceman
      @SarahSpaceman 3 роки тому

      Oh that would work really well I think! Especually if you over lap them my maybe a quarter inch, and do the zigzag in that over lap, I think that might work great

      @@SarahSpaceman Also, any advice for tackling a hat like Renna the Snow Witch from Elden Ring?

    • @SarahSpaceman
      @SarahSpaceman 2 роки тому +3

      @@sparkusclark6176 Funnily enough I have thought about her hat LOL, You'd want an even wider brim than this one, so you may have to piece interfacing together to get the full circumference, but hers looks almost felted at the sides, so if you COULD use real wool, you may want to consider full felting, which you can find wool felting resources on youtube, OR, if not fully felted you could make a structure like this one with interfacing inside, with two layers of wool around it, (i would honestly probably do an extra felt layer inside too) and then you could maybe wet felt the edges of the wool around the brim together (you do that by wetting it and rubbing it) and youd have a felted hat look but with the inner structure, thats what I would do, but you could also just bind the edges, and you would probably want an rings of wire in your inner most layers to further support her structure. (prob one close to the head, one in the middle and one near the edge)
