I don't voice my opinion very often down here in the comments section below, but I felt I needed to for this one. This is easily your best build guide to date. Everything was short, sweet and to the point. You didn't spend unnecessary time on the things that didn't matter and spent just enough time to cover what you needed to on the things that did matter. You crammed an incredible amount of information and b-roll footage into this short ( for a build guide ) video. There was very minimal silly phrases in the script and kept it very to the point and professional. Finally, my last point of praise is the sponsor spot, I have voiced my concern to you and your team before that sometimes the sponsor spot stole the video, ruining it for me (see HTC One M8 review), but that was not the case here. The sponsor plug was genuine and professional and did not detract from the video or its content in anyway. Truly an outstanding video and project across the board. Thank you Linus and team. This needs to be the benchmark for all future build guide videos.
PC build guides are our flagship content. Thanks for noticing how much work goes into them :)
LinusTechTips Thank you for spending the time to :)
LinusTechTips You made a mistake saying this ASUS Mobo has one click over clocking, only there boards with GOLD heat speaders may have this feature. In the Z97 series its the Z97-A or above up. I make this mistake as have thousands other other people. from Asus Z87 series videos saying all z87 mobo had one click over clocking which in fact was a lie.
@ Nicolas Furze its now 131... THUMBS UP THIS BITCH!
If Linus, Luke, Edzel, or anyone else from the team is reading this, I want to congratulate you for this video. I'm sure these big build videos take a lot of time and effort to make but you guys do it flawlessly. You hardworking sonuvabitches are awesome! Much love.
:)
LOL from the title I instinctively thought surround sound. Still really cool though.
me2
me three
I was hoping it would everything so like ultrawide, audio, maybe an awesome gaming chair that vibrates or smt, and so on
And as always. Linus never put the price tag on the video.
There is almost always a pricing link under the video :)
LinusTechTips Yep, I know. But it'd be convenient to add a little price tag box in the video. Just a little friendly suggestion :)
Wouldn't be a problem for a tech master, right?
***** Less clicks on his site. It's all marketing dude.
Do you really want to know? I mean with something like this I think you know whether or not you can afford it, lol.
***** Exactly! :D
Imagine if you were watching a video, and they used an 8gb flash drive, and youthought to yourself "hmm, i wonder how much that is" but the video had a box quoting the huge sale price at $39.99 (USD) HELL NO! Nobody would buy that at that price in 2014! Buy it at a store for $14! But... back in 2007 that would be a killer price! :)
Linus avoids the time-dating and price drop problems that occur with quoting prices in a video :)
No offence but the people that are ready to drop this kind of money on a pc, would probably know how to put together a pc.
Totally disagree. Lots of people love gaming but don't build their own PC.
LinusTechTips I think thats starting to become less of a percentage linus, i just cant see a normal person paying so much for something when they can build it at a discount, its a trend here in australia to build rigs and not buy them!
LeboPrince47 Well I don't know about Australia, but in Europe, while it's certainly a growing trend, for now the majority of people I know don't build their own PCs.
gilless429 the majority i know use laptops! But the gamers i know almost all come to me or build their own! Here in australia you save about 250$ building a PC.
LeboPrince47 No, I meant gamers. Obviously. Non-gamers, of course, aren't gonna make their own PC most of the time.
I had money in my bank account until i started watching LinusTechtits
linus wank tips hehe
Best editing I have seen in ages!! Keep up the awesome work!
The production quality on this video was through the roof. Amazing!
Well done and keep up the good work!
Another great build guide. Even thought I would not go with this look.
How about for a real challenge., drop the boring black and go for all white. I mean motherboard, cards the whole lot. That would be cool and remember, white is the new black.
I'll think about it ;)
A G3258 build would be a great platform as a lot of people want to build a anniversary system but are not certain regarding a value O/C system.
The tough part would be a white PCB mobo. But I remember a board that MSI or ASUS was showing around. Also don't forget the fury white RAM. :)
LinusTechTips a budget Pentium g3258 build would be ace :) love your videos, keep them up
hurry up UA-cam! No way I'm watching this in 360p :(
Video hasn't processed yet, wait about 30 mins
Same here bro :(
+ddswh1pk0s how many you hv told them that the video needs processing lol
With my internet I'm stuck at 360p :(
Great job on this guide. I think it was the best put together video so far.
Thank you soo much! Helped me alot. And btw the editing and style is just outstanding. Love all of your videos... Keep up the good work! Regards from Germany
this looks very cool!!!
couldn't find an antistatic surface etc. so i decided to use a electrically charged one instead its also a little magnetic
Is this supposed to be a joke?
The editing on this video is incredible plus an awesome looking build, I can't wait to see another one of these!
I have to say the new intro is pretty bad ass! Thumbs up on making that call. And yes, this is one of the best produced, most succinct build guides I've seen in a few years.
If i had a nickle for every "how to build a computer guide" on youtube... I would be fucking rich.
Linus's are all different. They are some of the best, and made for certain applications.
ImportNation They really aren't. This is less of a guide and more of an advertisement for Apple level products...
Mansen Apple level products? Each build is completely different, but sure the instructions are all similar; but apple level products? What in the actual fuck are you talking about?
ImportNation Horrendously overpriced products with little to no gain in performance for the cost.
You would probably have less than $30. 450 videos will only give you $22.50 LOL . . . . . math.
He should just have gone with full Razer pheripherals, to completely match the case
Maybe if razer put some metal on their keyboards...
Maybe if Razer was more reliable...
+Quietbut_Deadly I made the mistake of buying a Razer Naga 2014. The mouse itself is good, just the software is absolute shit.
+Opjink Only Corsair uses Metal.
+David Way
Agreed, the software is super buggy and will not update. The mouse is freaking amazing though
Really nice build guide. It skips all the steps that an experienced builder would already know (damn single pin installs) but kept its integrity throughout! Great job!
I've watched a ton of your videos and this is the best intro I've seen yet, more please.
I never post on youtube and I know am not sure if you actually read these comments but, Thank You for this build guide Linus! I have subscribed for about 2 years and I have be saving up to do 1440p eyefinity and I wanted the most bang for my buck Im glad to know that I did good with 2 r9 290's. I have watched alot of your videos but honestly this is my favorite video because its practical and you gave me benches on 2 r9 290s I also like the intro. great build guide I am glad that I am member and just because of this video I am going to buy an membership for support. also can you please show an link or something to your benches? I had to send my motherboard for an BIOS update and im stuck looking at my pieces, with your benches It would be great to see what I am in for.
I'm really glad you found the video useful. Sorry I don't have a link to more info about the benches.
LinusTechTips its cool Linus at least i kinda have idea thanks! im actually moving from DC to Montreal for school so I will be seeing what this NCIX is I hear so much about. your team does good work I hope to see you on Prime Time cable one day!
The part using in this build cost a ton not going to lie. but the nzxt h440 is a great case i have my own computer in that case and love it. you can come check out my review for it and look at my computer with it in it
I think this is my absolute favorite build guide I've seen, for every reason.
I was really impressed with this video. one of your highest production quality videos yet!
Whoaa, awesome placemat on the table, where did you get it?

james draper That final one though XD
HHAHHA
if 4k is here, why is the video 360p? xD
It has to process.
i hope you're kidding
why else will be the ''xD'' for?
sorry i didnt read it all i faceplamed after the 360p thing
lel, np
Excellent job, as always!
Awesome camera/editing work
I am curious on why you guys rarely ever use a custom or aftermarket CPU cooler, even though, you guys review them all the time.
Am I missing something? Or is it added later on? Because I see builds all the time done with the standard heat sink, so does the water cooler or air cooler get added later? Sometimes I never see it get added.
are you blind or did you not watch the whole video ProtoMario? They clearly put an aftermarket watercooled CPU block and rad setup on this build. They just used the stock air cooler to test the system ran before putting it together in the case.
But Proto! They put the heat sync on after they build the whole thing!
I don't really understand your question. I don't think a single one of our build guides used a stock cooler
LinusTechTips
I think he means when you do the test build, because you used a stock cooler in that.
LinusTechTips
Yea, I meant the test, because you wanna test if that aftermarket cooler and heatsink work properly too.
Please showcase some more AMD build guides. It seems like all I ever see is Intel CPUs and Nvidia GPUs. Lets show some support for the other guys.
Intel's A - Better for gaming, B - is sponsoring those build guides.
Thats because AMD sucks with CPUs and Linus uses Nvidia because of personal preference.
✨CRAZYGUY✨ GTFO!
Intel sponsored video but at least he's using R9 290's video cards...
Mateusz Wojtkiewicz I guess if they are sponsoring it. I wonder why he never has AMd sponsor his videos. Their CPUs perform perfectly fine for gaming.
This was easily the best Build Guise to date, those Camera Transitions were Wonderful :D
Love the zoom-in cinematography in this video! Much appreciated!
The computers in my school are unbelievable. i7-4770k with 16gb of ram and gtx 780. It makes me so sad that my school has better gaming rig than i do
....wtf...my school had imacs that were crap.
Your school sounds awesome why do you have those rigs
Wow. Take some?
The Hardware Cove I seriously doubt any public school has pcs like that.
DAMO I study computer science and there is also a basic game developing line
Linus, can you please do a build guide for a good WoW gaming pc, or will this be perfectly suited? Because I feel like surround is overkill for wow
Surround overkill? What on earth does that mean? Surround means using multiple monitors.
this is WAY overkill, there should be many pcs built for wow online.
for wow id recommend h81 motherboard ,pentium g3258, single gtx 960, 8gb ram, 500w gold rated supply
+Eddie Enke
perhaps this would do if the only thing you'll play is WoW, if you want to play something else you should consider an FM2+ board with an Athlon 860k and an r7 250 or a "cheap" i5 because some games won't run on dual core CPUs anymore
+Sebastian Contreras the only game I know that wont run on dual core is Far Cry.. is there any other? I might need to upgrade if that's the case
Awesome editing as always. Great video guys.
The intro is super super clean!!!
This build is sick man!!!
I recently bought an R9 290 from Gigabyte, and keep having problems with it. Under load screen goes black and system crashes. Fans keep working, but any sounds from the speakers are gone, and so is any kind of control over the system at that point. All I can do then is restart the PC. Tried a lot of things to fix it, and the only thing that seems to help is downclocking the memory clock quite a bit.
A lot of people have the same problem with this card, and often suggest increasing idle memory clock instead of downclocking (but I don't really know how to do that), or... RMA.
my first guess is to check your power supply.
FiesoDuck It's this one. Brand new. www.corsair.com/en/vs-seriestm-vs650-650-watt-power-supply
Kurtownia It should be strong enough to power your system and its unlikely to be faulty. Are you sure that your system stays well cooled under load? My next guess would be to inspect the software you are running while the system crashes. If it happens everytime no matter what software you use it 'should' be an hardware issue.
FiesoDuck Temperatures sit at 40C on idle and never go beyond 70C under load. Maybe they could, but system crashes before that happens. I don't think anyone would classify that as "overheating".
About software, I just use AMD Catalyst drivers 14.4. Tried beta drivers, didn't help. Tried older drivers, no luck. BIOS is up to date. I don't know enough about computers to know what other software we could be talking about.
I'd bet the farm it's the card. Like you said A LOT of people are having issues with Gigabyte's latest Windforce cards, there's more documented cases of people RMAing these than any other card i've ever seen. Their factory overclock seems to be very unstable, you have to downclock them immensely for them to work - then again the whole point you buy this card is for that higher than reference clock. Trust me I know, I had to RMA my 780ti Windforce GHz for this reason. Poor quality control on their part, never buying a Gigabyte card ever again.
i can only see the options 360 p and 240p why no 720 or 1080?
UA-cam is why. It hasn't finished processing the video.
Video processing.
you must be new here
The video will come out in 'hd later
Love the editing and intro. Keep it up
Great job as always!
Lol, was it really hard to find themed peripherals in you RAZOR themed build guide?!?!
Razer*
Razer only makes shit products btw
jacob9hawkes So, how much did you overpay for them? The Ourobourous is just an average wireless mouse, and it's impossible to mess up a mechanical keyboard. They managed it in the 2014 model
Norman the Owl my brother owns a deathadder 2013 and friend has the 2013 ultimate kb, i actually find his blue mx keys to feel better than my now 2yr old quickfire tk, but i do use my kb way more than him, and its nice to have your mouse and kb on the same driver and intractable with each other, although i dont like the gaming keys on the ultimate and prefer then on my mouse which is why i have the g700s, soon upgrading to the g502, but thats just preference. since they had their razer products ive had my original g700 start to die, and replaced for free from logitech, and my other friends cm storm kb had a spacebar die. so in my experience, razer has held up the best to other peripherals, but just not my cup of tea
jacob9hawkes the key switches are Chinese knockoffs. And the k70 rgb comes out September eight
soo far i have bouht 2 razer nagas, and they both had malfuncion, bad =( i can use them anymore, and now i have a g600 logitech and has last more than the 2 nagas =( sooo yea they are beautys but tht`s it.
Anyone else here from Linus roasting that kid in the comments?
+ABroNamedHam YESSSS!!! linusroasttips
xD yes!
+ABroNamedHam yup
+ABroNamedHam lmao yuuup
what happened?
Very nicely done! Great video.
Linus I have to say thank you, this was the first of video I ever watched I clicked it because I wanted to know what surround gaming was ( before I had solely played on a PS4) after seeing this video I decided to build my own PC and have watched your videos every day since, you have made a more involved in not only the tech community but also in the PC gaming community. I have liked of gaming so much I have sold off my PS4 and Xbox. Your videos are so informative that I built my first computer while watching your build guides and I was 11 years havin no prior knowledge thank you.
Builds expensive razer themed pc. *Buys corsair keybard* -_- XD
L8T LOL totally :) Man, he should have added the Blackwidow Chroma instead (was this one out by the time they filmed this?)
Checked and the Blackwidow was out by that time.. He should have put it in -_-
MrSirCamper Woooow XD
lavatron08 maybe Blackwidow Ultimate 2013 Edition, it has a Full Green Backlit LED
Karl Guevarra ik!
linus where can i buy the mat that has all that parts info
+jorge eduardo ModRight Xtreme Super Large Anti-Static Mod-Mat
Modmat extreme ... Amazon perhaps
£60
Amazing video, as always!
love the builds bro!!!!
Any tips on what to do if you dont have an anti static wristband? Can you discharge yourself on the case? And whats all that about "it wont work if your case is painted"???
Kaneda12 That's all I ever do and ain't nothin' broke yet! *Knocks on case*.
Edzel Yago Is that really edzel? A WILD EDZEL
Why do people keep asking that? Who else would be, 'Edzel Yago'? Besides my other account...
Edzel Yago lol :)
Could be a poser!
Bro do you even 360p
I always enjoy watching these. Thanks, Linus!
Been waiting for Linus Build Guide for ages!!!
High resolution gaming isn't worth it if you aren't willing to power it properly. As a PC gamer, I wouldn't be willing to accept low settings on my favorite titles like that. If you can't afford to max out 2k resolution, max out 1080p and wait to until you have the proper resources to upgrade. Great guide, though. I love that you take the time to do these. I simply disagree with the concept here.
you will need 2 Titan Z's for smooth and high quality Triple 4k gaming exp
pc gaming is not maxing out every game :S its about doing what you can with what you got .
Different strokes for different folks. Personally I'm with you, I like to be able to max any game at my native res at any time rather than more res/more screens at the price of graphics settings or fps.
I agree. We're not ready for this type of resolution yet. First there have to be cards that can handle one 4K display on their own. Then we can be looking to SLI/Crossfire cards for surround setups in 1440p or even 4K gaming.
I'm looking to get two 900 series cards when they release. That'll be a couple more years I'm afraid.
For now, my one ASUS Swift is an amazing experience to game on, on it's own :)
I run dual 780s on a 2560x1600 30" IPS and I think what you're missing is that the increased resolution IS a quality improvement. Games on my monitor look drastically better than on a 1080p screen at the same settings. So while I see where you're coming from (I max almost everything) it will look much better than the same settings on a 1080p monitor.
Red AMD graphics cards in a green themed build? I mean, the AMD cards are on par, if not better than Nvidia cards but wouldn't it have been more appropriate to put Nvidia 780tis in the system as they are already green and match the Razer color scheme better than the plasti-dip.
290x is 4GB while 780ti is 3GB
Do you see any red color in the graphics cards?!
That's enough for me to use them.
Like Marvin G mentioned, they have more vram, but they also have a wider memory bus, which helps a lot with his res gaming
290's are priced at 770 price range here (Germany) yet destroy 770's in performance, and the Gigabyte 290s don't have any red, so why not? Also, obviously the VRAM in AMD cards are superior to nVidia, the only people who buy GTX cards are dumb people who just like wasting money.
Sk3elly GTX cards run quieter and cooler than AMD cards that's why people buy them.
Props to Edzel! Mad skillz! That 3D rendering was PHENOMENAL! The editing was superb as well! I have never made a comment on a video about the good editing!
Linus, this was quick, precise, and professionally done. Great job! Best guide yet!
If only I had the money ;)
Well well this is a good looking case exept for that ugly razer logo.
Dood the logo is the best part
Well it would make sence if it was a logo from a gaming company that werent like beats by dre. Razer is a company who makes mediocre products for a premium price.
big words hurt my head
Gabe Newell The lord has spoken.
Gabe Newell then what is a good peripheral company
Thanks to you and Intel for making this video! :D
Thanks linus and Intel. Love these clips.
Where are you getting 3 1440p monitors for 1k?
eBay
i got a used pb after your recommendation but it was sold as like new and was about $450 U.S. love it tho
i'll be back when youtube makes it 1080p :P
Haha me too, usually about 30 mins
1440p now, come play!
This is without a doubt the best build guide I've ever seen. Fantastic job Linus and your team.
Linus i really like your new video's he quality has improved yet again and i am really impressed on how professional it looks.. koodos man and say thanks it shows that you have a great team
i didn't know the k70 rgb was available yet ?
It isn't
when does it come available ?
hockeyrules1998 No one knows...
hockeyrules1998 No one knows...
Go to Newegg, all of you. It says on there. People do your research PLS
lol built a razer themed system but used Corsair and Logitech peripherals
They seriously need to step up their mechanical keyboard game. He was planning to use the mouse though.
914050a are you fucking kidding me? the Corsair K70 RGB keyboard is among the most talked about and anticipated products of CES 2014, it's the world's FIRST RGB mechanical keyboard AND it's not even available for sale yet. I've been checking newegg amazon and ncix 3 times a day to find when it is going to release... Mere mortals such as me have to wait until September 8th to get my hands on it.
Step up their mechanical keyboard game my foot... some people.
Corsair ftw
Yeah really. I thought they were going to use a deathadder 2013 mouse and a deathstalker keyboard. :p
Because they all make better peripherals than razer .
love the editing
just.. beautiful.. nice work guys! :D
What is the best headset for 100 dolars
Razer Kraken Pro or Sony DR-GA 200
The neon?
Not the Neon, I mean the classic Kraken Pro.
You can go with Neon if you dont want a bass.
ok
I just use this pair that gets me tons of bass and they feel great on your head. Oh, sorry, I meant pear* My brother uses potatoes.
can 2 gtx titan z take surround 4k gaming??
Dont get gtx titan z. They lag when watching youtube vids at 720p.
??
Are you kidding me?? A "3000" dollar card laging when watching youtube vid at fucking 720p!!!!!!!???????????
dood it was a joke
I know ;-D
Been looking forward to this video ever since you first started showing your plans to start it! It looks absolutely gorgeous, but I would totally go for a blue and black build cause I'm boring like that ;) Watching you spray the components was a bit scary, but you obviously know what you're doing xD
Nice quality video tech tips team!
"4K is here" and this video is limited to 360p, is that supposed to be a joke ?
also what's with the CGI spunk in the background ?
I don't really think, that this kind of build guide is necessary. People who buy products this high-end know what they are doing
Linus said before, some people just chuck 3000$ bucks on a pc, but they don't even build it themselves...
The other day I was at a place where the fix computers and this guy was building a pc for his buddy,he got a 4770k,780ti,saber tooth z-97, 16gb ram, 2ssds and a 4tb hard drive, so yea...(there was a lot of other stuff that I can't remember...)
Alienware says otherwise..Not everyone watches Linus guys. Some guys have money and just love to play games, not build things. They got better stuff to do....like make more money for example.
Actually, a lot of people (especially in visual work) don't know computers and go by the guidelines of the developer of their software. I'm sure a lot of Maya users just get workstations pre-built for the sake of convenience.
My first pc build was $3570, I overall knew what I was doing but it was still my first build.
Yeah in my opinion, 1080p monitors are fine. If you wanted to max out everything on those resolutions, go with nvidia. Most people don't have this much money to spend on one computer anyway. And 32gb of ram in my opinion is overkill. Get 8, or 16 if you have the money.
Beautiful work man. I just finished building my first gaming pc, watching your build videos made it much easier. You're awesome.
Thanks Linus and the crew for making a bad afternoon really cool and fun
But can it run Minecraft?
+Ares Xena can it run counter strike 1.6 looool
How about ET 2600?
But can it run pong!
Minesweeper crashed
Linus builds a Razer themed build doesn't use a Razer keyboard. Lol
Not even the mouse. Not even a headset.
Well, it's not like Black/Green is exclusively a Razer theme. Besides, they had to use what was on hand, instead of having to buy something they most likely won't even use.
That would be wrong. The case is clearly Razer edition, I'm not a fan of Razer, but if I had that case, I would get some Razer peripherals to match that case.
That case is still sexy tho razer or not
***** Yes, but IMO, a little too plain in the front. The Razer logo in the front really makes difference.
Awesome video. Nice build
I can't afford most of the builds you do but I still watch them because they're really fun to watch, great videos!
Jason got roasted
Ikr lol
+Quæsitum i really wanna know what that roast was
Not much of a guide. It's too little for someone has no clue and too much for someone who knows what they're doing.
the fuck mate?
gsteiner
If you don't know anything about building PCs and only use this guide, you'll probably be left with alot of questions. If you know enough to not need any of the info given here, you don't need the guide.
For those people there's allways Carey Holzman. :P
kinda true
Well, if you are a beginner, you probably won't build a system like that as your first.
Really good build guide! That intro seemed a bit more amateurish than the rest of your content, but I think it is worth experimenting with different things. Keep up the good work!
Awesome video!
Its so stupid they dont show the pricing
Prices change quickly over time. If they did, you'd watch this in a month and say "Its so stupid they show the wrong pricing"
It's almost always linked in the video description
LinusTechTips if you showed priceing people outside canada would be like wtf, so respect for not doing that!
Fuck off. Linus has mentioned this before. Do a little research before you cry that no one is breast feeding you the answers.
LeboPrince47 HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH, BITCH HAVE YOU EVER BEEN TO NORWAY!?
triple 1080p is not cutting edge? I have a 1024 by 1280 and a 1366 by 736. shut up.
lol
Endonics
I hate my dirt poor life.
GamerJustice 8
Stfu? My comment fuck off.
Its alright man. I feel your pain. I play on a POS 1366x768 tv. Upgrading soon. I highly recommend you check out the Asus VN247. Only $160 (less used) and its 1ms response time and 2 HDMI ports. Thats what I'll be getting :)
if it makes you feel better i just got a 970 and lack a monitor to really even make it worth it...
Love the 300 style zoom in effect, gives the video a nice dynamic
Love the new format for youtube menu tab below the video :P
Oh great build too Linux :P
Kickass Guide, Linus is back!
great great build! very good editing aswell :)
I love that component work mat with all the detailed drawings :-D
great video linus
Coming back to this video and looking at it from a video producer's eyes has allowed me to see what kind of ridiculous production value went into this extremely well made video. Thank you linus and team for this video and for setting a gold standard for youtube based computer content.
Great video!
This video makes me happy on a new level. My favorite color is green and I plan on building a pc soon, however finding green cases and motherboards to go with the rest of my planed build was quite hard, but with this video I no longer have to keep looking around for green colored parts. Thnx Linus. :3
I have to say, love the new graphics. Good build guide too :)
Amazing video, great quality, editing and everything all around. To the editors, give yourself a pat on the back.
