    I don't voice my opinion very often down here in the comments section below, but I felt I needed to for this one. This is easily your best build guide to date. Everything was short, sweet and to the point. You didn't spend unnecessary time on the things that didn't matter and spent just enough time to cover what you needed to on the things that did matter. You crammed an incredible amount of information and b-roll footage into this short ( for a build guide ) video. There was very minimal silly phrases in the script and kept it very to the point and professional. Finally, my last point of praise is the sponsor spot, I have voiced my concern to you and your team before that sometimes the sponsor spot stole the video, ruining it for me (see HTC One M8 review), but that was not the case here. The sponsor plug was genuine and professional and did not detract from the video or its content in anyway. Truly an outstanding video and project across the board. Thank you Linus and team. This needs to be the benchmark for all future build guide videos.

      LinusTechTips You made a mistake saying this ASUS Mobo has one click over clocking, only there boards with GOLD heat speaders may have this feature. In the Z97 series its the Z97-A or above up. I make this mistake as have thousands other other people. from Asus Z87 series videos saying all z87 mobo had one click over clocking which in fact was a lie.

      ***** Exactly! :D
      Imagine if you were watching a video, and they used an 8gb flash drive, and youthought to yourself "hmm, i wonder how much that is" but the video had a box quoting the huge sale price at $39.99 (USD) HELL NO! Nobody would buy that at that price in 2014! Buy it at a store for $14! But... back in 2007 that would be a killer price! :)
      Linus avoids the time-dating and price drop problems that occur with quoting prices in a video :)

    I am curious on why you guys rarely ever use a custom or aftermarket CPU cooler, even though, you guys review them all the time.
    Am I missing something? Or is it added later on? Because I see builds all the time done with the standard heat sink, so does the water cooler or air cooler get added later? Sometimes I never see it get added.

    I recently bought an R9 290 from Gigabyte, and keep having problems with it. Under load screen goes black and system crashes. Fans keep working, but any sounds from the speakers are gone, and so is any kind of control over the system at that point. All I can do then is restart the PC. Tried a lot of things to fix it, and the only thing that seems to help is downclocking the memory clock quite a bit.
    A lot of people have the same problem with this card, and often suggest increasing idle memory clock instead of downclocking (but I don't really know how to do that), or... RMA.

    • @FiesoDuck
      @FiesoDuck 10 років тому +10

      my first guess is to check your power supply.

      @Kurtownia 10 років тому

    • @FiesoDuck
      @FiesoDuck 10 років тому

      Kurtownia It should be strong enough to power your system and its unlikely to be faulty. Are you sure that your system stays well cooled under load? My next guess would be to inspect the software you are running while the system crashes. If it happens everytime no matter what software you use it 'should' be an hardware issue.

    • @Kurtownia
      @Kurtownia 10 років тому

      FiesoDuck Temperatures sit at 40C on idle and never go beyond 70C under load. Maybe they could, but system crashes before that happens. I don't think anyone would classify that as "overheating".
      About software, I just use AMD Catalyst drivers 14.4. Tried beta drivers, didn't help. Tried older drivers, no luck. BIOS is up to date. I don't know enough about computers to know what other software we could be talking about.

    • @h0lyhandgrenade
      @h0lyhandgrenade 10 років тому +8

      I'd bet the farm it's the card. Like you said A LOT of people are having issues with Gigabyte's latest Windforce cards, there's more documented cases of people RMAing these than any other card i've ever seen. Their factory overclock seems to be very unstable, you have to downclock them immensely for them to work - then again the whole point you buy this card is for that higher than reference clock. Trust me I know, I had to RMA my 780ti Windforce GHz for this reason. Poor quality control on their part, never buying a Gigabyte card ever again.

      Norman the Owl my brother owns a deathadder 2013 and friend has the 2013 ultimate kb, i actually find his blue mx keys to feel better than my now 2yr old quickfire tk, but i do use my kb way more than him, and its nice to have your mouse and kb on the same driver and intractable with each other, although i dont like the gaming keys on the ultimate and prefer then on my mouse which is why i have the g700s, soon upgrading to the g502, but thats just preference. since they had their razer products ive had my original g700 start to die, and replaced for free from logitech, and my other friends cm storm kb had a spacebar die. so in my experience, razer has held up the best to other peripherals, but just not my cup of tea

    High resolution gaming isn't worth it if you aren't willing to power it properly. As a PC gamer, I wouldn't be willing to accept low settings on my favorite titles like that. If you can't afford to max out 2k resolution, max out 1080p and wait to until you have the proper resources to upgrade. Great guide, though. I love that you take the time to do these. I simply disagree with the concept here.

      Different strokes for different folks. Personally I'm with you, I like to be able to max any game at my native res at any time rather than more res/more screens at the price of graphics settings or fps.

    • @GuyRandom
      @GuyRandom 10 років тому +2

      I agree. We're not ready for this type of resolution yet. First there have to be cards that can handle one 4K display on their own. Then we can be looking to SLI/Crossfire cards for surround setups in 1440p or even 4K gaming.
      I'm looking to get two 900 series cards when they release. That'll be a couple more years I'm afraid.
      For now, my one ASUS Swift is an amazing experience to game on, on it's own :)

    • @jameshealy4594
      @jameshealy4594 10 років тому

      I run dual 780s on a 2560x1600 30" IPS and I think what you're missing is that the increased resolution IS a quality improvement. Games on my monitor look drastically better than on a 1080p screen at the same settings. So while I see where you're coming from (I max almost everything) it will look much better than the same settings on a 1080p monitor.

    Red AMD graphics cards in a green themed build? I mean, the AMD cards are on par, if not better than Nvidia cards but wouldn't it have been more appropriate to put Nvidia 780tis in the system as they are already green and match the Razer color scheme better than the plasti-dip.

    • @Skellist
      @Skellist 10 років тому +2

      290's are priced at 770 price range here (Germany) yet destroy 770's in performance, and the Gigabyte 290s don't have any red, so why not? Also, obviously the VRAM in AMD cards are superior to nVidia, the only people who buy GTX cards are dumb people who just like wasting money.

    Coming back to this video and looking at it from a video producer's eyes has allowed me to see what kind of ridiculous production value went into this extremely well made video. Thank you linus and team for this video and for setting a gold standard for youtube based computer content.

    This video makes me happy on a new level. My favorite color is green and I plan on building a pc soon, however finding green cases and motherboards to go with the rest of my planed build was quite hard, but with this video I no longer have to keep looking around for green colored parts. Thnx Linus. :3
