To me, the toughest part of filmmaking is editing. And of course, she has all my respect. I'm so interested about her editing process... Very interesting.
She edits on physical film, so she literally cuts with scissors and puts shots together with tape. A lot of digital filmmakers these days use Adobe Premiere, though, if that's what you wanted to know.
Don't count on it - I worked for her 30 years ago and she looked pretty much the same then. Woman is a TANK! Trust me, she'll be editing for many years yet to come.
she looks and sounds perfectly healthy for her age. why is it "sad" that she's 79 years old? how long do you want her to live? why are you being such a negative nelly?
@@plasticweapon Clearly you must be partly blind if you think that she looks healthy here. 79 means shes gonna die soon. Its a sad thing to realize there will soon be a time where she is no longer part of anyone's filmmaking process anymore. A rare talent lost is a sad thing.
@@reviewgodusa9613 oh. okay. my eye sight is better than yours because i'm not wearing shit covered glasses. get some meds, get an adult perspective on aging, and get some of thelma's positivity. with your outlook, she'll probably outlive you. everybody dies, okay?
She comes across as incredibly humble and grateful. What a beautiful woman!
Clear headed, humble, fluent with such a calming effect. Thank you for posting.
She's a legend. What a great life she must have had, collaborating with Scorsese. That would be a lot of fun. Editing is a cool job.
Sleeping with Scorsese

The toughest part is VFX and getting your movie sponsored
@@hschenck3394 vox is though as every other parts of a movie
Toughest part is to sit and watch a bad movie for 2 hours
What a fantastic video. We're so lucky to have this.
she is one of the greats
"They aren't violent until I've edited them."
-Thelma Schoonmaker, when asked how such a nice lady could edit such violent movies.
Such a fantastic account. This is obviously where all the magic happens!
Legend.
LOVE this woman
Imagine having on your cv - Martin Scorsese’s editor 50+ years! wow!
Thelma is amazing 😊
Shes not just a wormate shes a best friend
Nobody was watching those movies at 2am in morning, but Martin Scorsese was.
Did anyone else know she was married to Michael Powell? When she said that my jaw hit the floor. I love her so much
I love this
Thanks for the clip. Are you able to share the source material to include in a new film about great women film editors? Thanks
Brilliant editor, finding the story in Scorcese's schizophrenic footage, especially in Goodfellas!
08:45 --- GOLLUM!
Yes. Marty's right hand if you will.
The fact that if this video had a good editing it would have got much more views
What software did she use or any filmmakers use

She uses lightworks.
ArchieL nowadays the film is actually digitised and edited on a computer. It’s a lot easier, since the finished project is digital anyway :)
windows movie maker
now it makes sense. i was wondering why it was the worst editing i had ever seen in my life. but i can excuse it if she was 90 at the time
Finally, I thought I was the only one who thought the editing in twows was really off
so sad she is 79 years old now. Not looking too good here im afraid she doesnt have many more years left to edit movies.

@@zantigar thats great. You must have been very fortunate. I do hope she continues in her career for the next decade or 2.
