Once again a terrific interview. My husband and I loved her stories, who wouldn't! What a career as well even before that "silly show called Little House on the Prairie". lol. That is great. Thank you Karen for being so gracious and of course John kudos for another lovely show! Can't wait for the next one.
Hi Jamie, I loved her stories too! She was blessed with the role of a lifetime and thank goodness she realized it at some point. What a career! Thanks again for you and your husband's support!
I think Karen Grassle was Caroline Ingalls no one else could have played her,, Karen was amazing,, in her role and is an amazing actress God bless you Karen!!
I finally managed to finish watching this wonderful interview today. "Ma Ingalls" was my favourite character as a child. I loved watching LH every Saturday night. Go Karen for having a fling with Gil Gerrard!! 🥰🥰🥰
Thank you for this interview. Her book is incredible & extremely well-written. It's sad that she wasn't treated better. Sadly, some don't remember that what goes around comes around, & doing good doesn't always offset the ill-treatment of others. 👍🏽💯😊
My favorite was Karen! She was the mother everyone wanted. Make no mistake her sweet voice, smile and even her gentle touch was not acting. Add in she was a very natural beautiful women who was dedicated to her family is what makes a great woman . When I was a kid with a hard life a would get lost in those episodes as if i were part of the family. Today I am 59 and STILL watch Little House on Pluto TV! I did read her book and she still would be a person I would like. I am amazed she just learned how special she was to the world! I really believe Michael Landon knew how loved and Karen was. I believe he did not want her to know she was that valuable . Shaming her over money over 2 years was cruel and very Narcissist! We never heard that word Narcissist back then or even knew why women were so kept down. Karen you will live on for years to come for . You will be someone inspiration that is not even born yet! He we are watcing this video and your still very relevant ! We desperately need this show to be watched so we remember how kind and loving we were back then. Simple life. God bless you Karen! 🙏
Awww, I love little house on the prairie!!! I felt like she was my ma!!!! I’m 42 and my daughters are 20 and 23, I have them hooked on little house on the prairie too! I’m a Christian woman and it’s hard to find anything good and decent to watch, but little house feels that spot perfectly for me!🙏❤️

I am having Dean Butter back to answer fan questions. Send your question for him to me at: thatsclassictv@gmail.com
I don’t understand, how, anyone would, think, she is not telling the, absolute truth, about Michael Landon. She went through a lot, on that show. And she stood up to, Michael Landon, and she was not suppose to do that. But she did and I am so glad she did. Good for her. 🌷
I just love Karen Grassle and her character portrayal of Ma Ingalls! I’m so happy that she realizes how much we LH fans appreciate her! Great interview!
I absolutely love this lady. I am a couple years younger than Melissa Gilbert. I was definitely a huge fan of Little House on the Prairie. And I watched Bonanza frequently with my grandfather when I was a child. I was a huge Michael Landon fan. It always bugged me that he did not treat Karen the right way on the set. So sorry to hear that. Just the other day, I found the Little House on the Prairie series again, and I started to watch the series again. I don't know how many times I've watched these series. A few weeks ago, I decided to take an English class in college. In my English class, they had our class write a story. I wrote a 5000-word story similar to Little House on the Prairie, but of course, I made many changes to make it, unlike Little House on the Prairie. The entire time I wrote the story, I had the cast of Little House on the Prairie in the back of my mind... And, of course, I received a 100% on the grade. I decided to turn that essay into a full story just for giggles and laughs. I doubt it will go anywhere besides around my inner circle, but just the fact that it brought out the little house on the prairies through my perspective made it absolutely fun and exciting. If I were able to ask a few questions, it would have been if she has kept in contact with any of the cast members or if she still catches any of the old series of Little House..... I know some people don't like the watch the shows that they have acted in.
Wow the drinking problem was very surprising as well. Both Little House and the Walton's ran almost parallel. Both shows had people who were alcoholics in real life. Michael Learned and Ralph Waite. Karen Grassle, and Michael Landon were all drinkers and overcame their drinking problems while filming the show. I was a little kid back then and never knew it. Great acting covered up a lot of it. I still love both shows and still watch both shows often. Thank you Karen Grassle (Ma). Congrats on being sober.
Great insight, it is pretty wild about the commonality of alcoholism between both shows. Fortunately it takes nothing away from the amazing performances in both Little House on the Prairie and the Waltons.
I always loved Caroline Ingalls character. She was a very sweet sweet person. Caring and loving etc. My favorite episode that stressed me out was when Ma stayed home while Pa and the girls went ahead and was to meet Ma later on. While ma was at home she had a cut on her leg. It became infected and became very ill. I was stressed out because she was so ill nobody there to help her when Rev. Alden and this woman stopped by to grab some pies Caroline had to struggle to get their attention and never was able to. I just wanted to reach thru the TV screen to help. Other episodes I liked were ones where either Mrs. Olsen or Nellie were be harassed by other people. That was the gratifying part. 🙂
Its fun to relive those special episodes isn't it. That is definitely one of the fun parts of listening to actors talk about the show they were part of. Enjoy!!
I love your episode “A Matter of Faith”. You were so brave being hurt and handling the animals baking your pies and treating your leg injury and reading the Bible praying
I loved this interview with "Ma". I really look forward to all the Little House interviews you have done. Allison is the best! Hoping you can interview brothers Matthew (Albert Ingalls) and Patrick (Andy Garvey) Labyorteaux, Lindsey and Sidney Greenbush (Carrie Ingalls). I'd love if you could interview Melissa Sue Anderson, but that probably won't happen. From what I've read and the group I'm on, she doesn't attend anything Little House related. I think a great interview would be Jonathan Gilbert (Willie Oleson) but no one seems to be able to find out where he is as I think he has distanced himself from the show too. But anyone else from Little House you can interview would be awesome.
@@ThatsClassicTV YAY. How could I forget Miss Beadle? That will be a great interview. Charlotte Stewart has quite an interesting book. If you haven't read it, it's a must read.

This was an awesome interview John! I have read Karen's book and it was wonderful. I have actually read most all of the actors books from Little House on the Prairie. I was wondering if you could maybe get some interviews in the future from Charlotte Stewart (Miss beetle), Henry Winkler (the Fonz), and John Stamos (uncle Jesse from full house)? John and Henry both have their biographies coming out in October and I can't wait to read them. I know you have an earlier interview with Henry, but an updated one would be just awesome! Thank you again for all the wonderful interviews!

Surprising about the drinking. Crazy to know how micheal landon treated her badly. He was so well liked it seemed and he did the show highway to heaven and it was a hit show. But seems he wasnt what people thought he was.

I wrote letters to old friends and was miffed when 2 of them admitted they did not have time to read the letters. After that I sent no letters to those 2 people.
I still write letters and I LOVE getting a letter in the mail. It's a lost art and the beautiful art of handwriting has been just thrown away. To get a letter, handwritten, meant so much more than printed or typed words. It just seems so much more personal
I didn't see Caroline like she described at all...I remembered other interviews where she didn't seem to like working on Little House, if i remember correctly. Shannon Doherty said Michael was amazing but i think Karen had such a negative view of him and the show🤔 she should never talk bad publicly about people that can't tell their side of the story...
I don’t think she said in the interview she didn’t like working on Little House. She said she created her own characterizations of the character to be stronger. Karen had her issues with Michael but never denies how incredible he was as a producer, writer and creator of Little House.
not much of a fan of that cheesy series.
