    Be aware that glass containers for candles can crack if the candle oil burns too low, and it gets too hot. I had a friend whose wooden night table caught on fire when her glass candle holder cracked at the bottom, and it lit the varnish finish on fire. That is why I always place my candles in a metal lid (or something similar) with water in it. The water will extinguish the fire if the jar cracks.

    Aldi coconut oil is already in a glass jar so I just push a candle or wick into it. I trim the candle so it is slightly above the level of the coconut oil.

    Canning jars can also handle heat very, very well. People need to think about that. They are put into water and pressure cooked for hours. This means canning jars are safe for making crisco candles.

    Wish I could use these in the tents when I go camping with my scouts! But, no flames are allowed in the tents! My tent wouldn’t be a problem as I use a Tee Pee… it’s designed for a fire in the center. But it’s still against the rules… we have to rely on wearing layers and using zero degree sleeping bags at night… I usually bring along a bunch of those handy little hand warmers or heat packs to use just to get things warmed up before falling asleep… another thing I use is emergency tarps… I place them on the floor of the tent reflective side up and it really helps with body heat! I have even hung the emergency tarps up along the sides of the tents to reflect body heat… it can get pretty warm inside my tent doing that!!!!

    If used in emergencies and are to be left burning, those present can take turns staying awake and act as a fire watch and security monitor. Have a fire extinguisher ready and a flashlight ready in case candle burns out or has to be put out for safety reasons.
    Metal cans can also be used but light will be greatly reduced. Holes can be drilled in the can, with larger holes being at the top. Of course the can will only be filled to just below the holes! This will allow a bit more light to shine out. If you are going to use for heating, no holes are needed.

    Nice. After lighting does it liquify slowly like the wax?

  • @tamo9520
    @tamo9520 3 роки тому +7

    Isn't the coconut oil going to be harder to store? It melts in such a low temperature. I've had it liquify just sitting in my cupboard, which means that my candle (that's made from coconut oil) would liquify as well.

    • @NinthElement
      @NinthElement  3 роки тому +2

      Hi Tannis, using a pre-made wick with a metal stand would work as well as crazy gluing the candle to the jar. Cheers!

    • @alwaysright5901

      You can also just store the candles in your refrigerator when not in use to avoid them liquifying.

    What also works for keeping the wick candle on the bottom of the jar, is to adhere it to the bottom with some ‘tacky blue’ (or comes in yellow, also)- the putty-like substance they make for putting posters and the like on your walls without staining them or taking the paint off. This can usually be found in the hardware, stationary, or dollar stores in either the tape or glue section. God bless❣️😇

    This is a great video. My only concern is that microwaving it distroys the enzymes and nutients in the oils. So it is better to melt the coconut oil some other way.
