You’re doing good Brett, your pack works together like a well oiled machine. They leap frog nicely while trailing and they all try to help. Like a swarm of scent seeking missiles! I watch how your dogs work and I see how I want my pack to be.
Read a book "Nine Years in the Saddle" by James V. Lee. It was about a guy named Dud Lee and some of his associates , who hunted lions in the 1930's. I could not help but think about how tuff those old guys were and how soft we have become. Found you on you tube , and even though you are not as tuff as they were, you are certainly stronger than most of us. Keep on following those hounds.
I use to work with mules and what kind of toughness it takes, so l would say from watching you climb hills by foot and mule that you are equally as tough. You are able to take advantage of some comfort technology, but that in no wise makes you any less. I grew up in the hot deserts surrounding Tucson and know how rough they are. Good job and keep up the good work.
Enjoyed it Brett , haven’t watched for a little while now … terrible tragedy our church burned to the ground .. lightening struck our steeple set our cellulose insulation on fire. It’s been a nightmare trying to get everything done and ready for the build back … our last appraisal was a million and a half … so it’s a major undertaking to get that big of a project started back .. we are underway now though … I heard that quote earlier you snagged from me ..😂 and it rings true to my old heart at the moment .. Onward and Upward that is the watchword… Merry Christmas to you and yours .. Jeff Wilcher
Glad I came across your channel, your very interesting to watch and learn from. Thanks for sharing. By the way I like your hat, can you tell me where to get one?

Mysterious Scent....I should have a little experience by now but the more I hunt the less I'm sure of anything concerning a scent trail... Another great video!
You never know about scent …seems like the older I get the less I know …watch on the ridge adventures last lion hunting video ..6 hr old Tom track and only had one dog that could bark on it ..
@@BrettVaughnB100 Your right about scent being mysterious!...a fellow hunter seen a bear cross a road...15 minutes later my buddy got there (he's got some good hounds) and dogs wouldn't strike it and finally trailed it very slowly out of there...never treed it... Last Friday a guy called me an seen one the night before and had been rained on a little...15 hours old the dogs trailed it up no problem, jumped and treed it... I have theories but honestly can't explain it...
Humidity ?? whats that lol .. I'm heading out this morning and the humidity is suppose to be around 65%.. going to a good place we will see .. I should get one .. Thanks Andrew
Hey Bret, I have a suggestion or question...can you do a short video to explain the land usage to us easterners? How do you get access to the BLM land...are you just allowed to use it? We have nothing like that here in NC...I'm very jealous you have so much space to enjoy and hunt with your hounds!
Lion hunters travel into their own trouble, Just check one more little draw, one more outcropping…..still got a bit more time, but a long way from water, getting hot……. Its all good later after super, mules an dogs fed, watered…..and on the pillow , fire glowing low, stars bright, one old owl hooting somewhere…🤠🤭😉. Thanks Brett 👍🏻
I'm 80 yrs old and a bow traditional recurve hunter, and I believe that its easier to track lions bobcats etc when they have made a kill thats when they give off more sent, and when they get hungry their sent is the least and other animals can't smell them as much and it allows them to get closer to their prey, what do you think, Jim las vegas nv
Jimmy, that actually makes a little sense. The longer they go without food, the less oils/body odor they produces to try to reduce their scent. That is a sound theory.
So what is the purpose of this hunt? You have a mountain lion taking out a deer, which is nature. Is it to just track a lion with the dogs or is it to also kill it? If it is to kill it, is it just for the kill or does this cat pose a threat which necessitates its demise?
I’m a city boy , NYC, so don’t take my word for it, I’ve never been in the wilderness in all my 47 years, but I’m guessing it’s because now that the lion found a meal on that ranch property the dude that owns the ranch knows it’s gonna keep stalking around his property and eventually get one of his animals.
Might be a great big lion with little bitty feet think positive dammit ,or your negative comments may discourage your hounds.they can feel your attitudes you know!.
Sir Mr. Mike,I sure am sorry I criticized you so hard,I used to say "I can't stand" this ,or that ,or everything! I said it all the time for years.now, guess what? I'm in a wheelchair,I can't stand alright! Can't walk either, and I know it's my own dam fault! I cursed my own self.I don't like to hear anybody put them selves down.cause it catches up to ya ,and it happens.but mi sorry I criticized you got a fine channel..
I really like your vedios. Where your riding in new mexico is a very dangerous area because of the drug trafficking and the illegals. I am surprised you have not been robbed.
Wish I had a buck Everytime you said "l donno".your own words come true hunter.you keep saying that, and you will never know .you cut your own power.you are being a willing participant in your own fails.try speaking positive ,soon your and your dog's successes will skyrocket!, The power of a man's Tongue is very Great. Especially a hound-dog man's words.watch what you say!,excuse my criticism but I just can't help it you know I speak the truth about this matter.please don't hate me.i won't say any more.fact I will unsubscribe sorry

Cats get lethargic and generally don't run as far on a full belly
Jimmy, that actually makes a little sense. The longer they go without food, the less oils/body odor they produces to try to reduce their scent. That is a sound theory.
Makes sense to me … I know there are many things we don’t understand about scent ..thanks guys !
