I live not far from the borders & work in Scotland mainly Edinburgh regularly. The Scots & the North East have a lot in common 1 being our obsession with football. But it's got be said we love a drink, as a result a lot of us are miserable bastards the day after a good session. I think the interviewer, however, has her mind on the pretzels, the strudel and quite possibly a wurst or two in her downtime. I'd have her talk to the fans, not the officials. Why
"Remarkable" is overdoing it. It's tough but doable.
No set of fans are more realistic than the Scots. We've mostly not qualified for finals at all in my lifetime so we're mostly just happy to be improved from that. It is a tough group as any would be. Germany - not at their best in recent times but have won tournaments before having not been at their best beforehand. It has to turn around for them sometime. Hungary - much improved in recent years. Switzerland - consistently get through the groups in finals. On the other hand, they'll look at Scotland and think - beat Spain, beat Ukraine and Serbia in qualifying last time. Great team spirit and great support. There's 6 groups so four 3rd placed teams will get through the groups. Only 8 countries drop out. Every country there will think they have a chance of progressing. One win could do it.
The pre-tournament predictions are pointless. We could bomb out in the groups or get through and neither would surprise me, because we are that sort of team. I'm sure we'll enjoy it either way.
