I ain't go hold you. I watch that interview he had with him a couple months ago and this whole thing that's playing out now is what I was thinking in my head how he was so open about it
As someone who’s relatively new to the gambling aspects of MMA, I have 2 questions. 1: Why is it illegal for a fighter’s family to bet on them? Obviously they could have insider info but it still comes down to fight night for any of that to come to fruition, right? 2: How could they possibly enforce any sort of gambling by friends or family when all I have to do (theoretically) is tell someone not within my household to place my bet, and then cash their money and give it to me?
for number 1, I'd guess it's more about betting against them. For example, say TJ Dillashaw's family knew his shoulder had dislocated 20 times leading up to the fight and that it was likely going to dislocate in the fight, so they go bet against TJ. I def don't think fighters/coaches/family betting ON their fighter should be a problem. But for some reason, orgs see it differently (ie Pete Rose only bet for his own team to win and he's banned from the MLB Hall of Fame over it).
For 2, it depends on the odds and the wager. In the T&Cs of any gambling account, the bookmaker has the right to review and refuse the payout. They do it for things like the discovery of a glitch in a game (virtual slots). If a wager looks overly large or discrepant, they could review and investigate all associated bets. They probably wouldn't, but for a moneyline movement like that, they may.
@@MansterBear I can explain why Pete betting on his own team was a problem. Even though he bet on his team to win in games, those bets affected other games. For instance, if it’s a normal game that you haven’t bet on that’s close, but you know you’re betting on the following nights game, you may withhold players from tonight’s lineup and sacrifice winning or a comeback because you want your players to be rested for the next days game, the one you’ve bet on. You’ve essentially made decisions you wouldn’t normally have made and sacrificed win/potential win so that you could win the bet the following day. At the time, Pete Rose was a player-manager, so a huge effect on who was in a lineup. And I’m saying this as someone who thinks Rose should be unbanned and let in the HOF. I don’t know enough about MMA to guess if it’s a similar situation with regard to betting on yourself to win.
Fundamentally, prohibition doesn't work, whether it is alcohol, weed, prostitution or gambling; it usually makes things harder and more complicated than what they would've been on their own. That said, just as a thought exercise, what could be the worse thing that happened if there was no government "regulating" gambling? Would fights continue to happen? Would betting houses continue to exist?
This really sucks because Kraus is very open and unaware of the legalities. This whole thing is just about controlling the business of gambling, they dont want anyone to win.
This whole situation is messed up from all angles, in so many ways. I started betting on MMA, almost 8 years ago, I remember thinking how easy it would be to go to a local mma gym and train for insider info. Started doing jiu jitsu at ATT in Kansas City, funny enough, one of the guys I trained with, Jeff Molina, moved onto Glory, in Lee Summit, a suburb in Kansas City, where James Krause trains, then ended up in the UFC. It’s really sad to see whats happening. Krause is a name synonymous with mma in Kansas City. He really grew something special for local guys who want to make it to the big leagues, all that is being destroyed. Not sure where it goes from here, but the fact that every UFC fighter who trains out here will now have to move on, if they want to stay in the UFC, really sucks. I think there are so many issues with mma gambling. Ive always thought that, just because the sport is so transparent. There are so many gyms where UFC fighters train, where almost anyone can show up, and train with one of the fighters. One of the reasons Donald Cerrone left Jackson-wink. MMA gyms don’t make a-lot of money, they’ll let anyone show up, as long as they pay their dues. They need the money. That transparency alone, puts a lot of questions on mma gambling. Back to Krause though, I don’t think he should be the blame for all this, its been going on for a long time, on so many levels, Krause just shined a light on it. And if anyone thinks its over, it isn’t. The only way to save mma gambling is to end it. That being said, I think if mma gambling stays, this whole situation will clean it up, a little, which might be a good thing.
Very, very good point about the transparency aspect. Corruption in combat sports has existed since their inceptions. I saw this coming a mile away, IMO it's more a coming of age story for a relatively new professional sport then it is a surprise.
@@SBGMember You had something interesting and most importantly RELEVANT to say. As opposed to telling the internet you need hooked on phonics. Irrelevant to this topic.

I was a part of the Discord - and I can confidently say that James never picked against any of his fighters. He would often completely skip the fights that included his fighters.
JK might skip betting on his own fighters in the Discord, but that doesn't guarantee he wouldn't privately bet against them on a 3rd party betting account. You'll never know.
@@lukeyluke14 also say he picks/bets on 6 out of 7 of his fighter's to win and the 7th he skips, to others that would mean he is not confident they will win or knows. So it would shift a lot of others to bet against that pick he skipped
Just last night, Fanduel put out an “odds boost” encouraging a bet that included Anthony Davis. Ironically, Davis left the game in the first quarter with flu like symptoms. Felt dirty.
In a way i like the new rules… because its more than just betting on yourself to win, or lose.. the fighter can literally place a bet on himself to lose within a minute.. and probably make more money taking a dive and cashing out from the sportsbook than they would for the fight.. theres over a hundred props to choose from on every fight..
Yeah, but that only goes so on so far. And if you bet big on some obscure props on a UFC prelim, it will not remain unnoticed for long. Also, all MMA betting markets outside of the UFC, and I'd say even within the UFC prelims, are very niche. That is why this funny business was detected so fast. It probably was far too much moeny coming in on a fight, that usually would command nowhere near as much attention.
These niche “gurus” are popping up in everything, you have Andrew Tates 100k odd discord to smaller niche ones with 1000 subs for $10 its like onlyfans for men
Not really. The public discord had 5,000 members and was free to join. I've lurked there myself. The VIP channel on the other hand costs $50 a month to have access to. That is where James would post his picks. I believe that was about 200 members. To join you had to give out some personal information such as your phone number as they didn't want people lurking in there that they knew nothing about.

Ariel and Journalists can have just as much insider info as the guys in the locker room. Ariel has the scoops on fights, he talks and messages managers. Ariel and other journalist easily have more info on fighters than general public. So they should also not be able to bet . Draftkings isnt gonna sponsor this show for long. Ariel is trying to push on Dana so much but ariel talks about bets and bets himself with his crew. They can have insider info, ariel knows about fights before they are announced . Im not saying he or these guys did anything. I just find it funny he wants to act like he doesnt know what discord is. He asks krause how can people sign up for his betting picks and all that. If ariel wants to try to throw dana under the bus over and over after GC keeps saying that dana was correct and he agreed with dana , ariel would bring it up nearly 3 times GC had to say he agrees with dana. So ariel dont poke your nose so deep in this one because they can pull sponsorships and no more betting talks since ariel clearly has more info than the public. He talks with managers, fighters, knows things before they are annouced etc.
Let's not forget, Helwani was the one saying UFC were now taking betting, another source of income away from the fighters, and whining about how unfair that was on the fighters. He said something like "now they're taking this away from them too". This guy has lost all credibility and integrity imo, on his mission to "hate on the UFC and DW" at every opportunity. And let's be honest, all the questions in the "On the nose" segment are just canned questions written by himself and his crew, so they can drive their own specific narrative.
Are you just figuring this out. There is a reason Dana dispises him. There is a reason Ali's fighters dont go to his show except for kayla Harrison. Fighters, coaches, should know nothing good comes from going to the MMA hour. Ariel is the master instigator and has lost all credibility a long time ago.
There was a book written called tapped out by Matthew polly where he trained at xtreme couture and it talks about the openness of betting and I'm fairly sure it also talked about people betting against their team when they knew they were injured or had a bad cut etc
Dana is saying they prolly booked all the smaller action, but when big money bets were coming in they aren’t taking that action. He is talking about the casinos not the websites
Surprised the TJ Dillashaw incident wasn’t talked about more here. He came into that fight completely disabled and people knew. This is exactly the same as the Minner fight no?
This could become a huge issue for the UFC. TJ Dillashaw fought for the title with an injury as well and someone could of used this info to make money off of it.

@@jonoharper4729 i donno about the whole lost all credibility and integrity stuff but he did say that something like "now they're taking this away from them too"
It's crazy to me how long this has went on without anyone putting a stop to it. You can wager as a coach on your own fighter but not against? WTF?? With the prop wagers now being so popular, I don't see any difference in an NFL coach betting on a receiver of his to catch a certain amount of passes or an NBA coach wagering on a player of his to score over a certain amount of points. Each scenario could easily be manipulated by that coach to achieve the over/under props to win that bet.
I don’t think it should be illegal to bet on your fighters. I never understood why gambling is so regulated but then again I don’t have a problem with gambling so that could be the disconnect.
@@Gratefulfellow I agree publicly but with the amount of connections he has there’s plenty of ways to get around things. Gambling can be an addiction for many which makes you prone to risks (Krause has entered the chat)
@@iConformed sorry am not with you on that. Dana would not do that. He has his money and he's not that greedy to do something that can ruin his own company.
One of the things I haven’t seen discussed relative to the gambling issue is fighter pay, if you start out making 14 to show and 14 to win and fighting twice per you’re in a financial position where you can be bought off for a relatively small amount and since there are 2 people in the competition you only need to get to one person for a guaranteed fix. Similar events have taken place in college basketball where one really impactful player (although it’s much safer to get multiple players in on it) can point shave and the players were uncompensated up until very recently
That’s rediculous. No one is forcing anyone to fight. Just because you arnt making top dollar, doesn’t mean you get to cheat. Otherwise a massive majority of poor people would be breaking the law at work. I personally make less than UFC fighters and don’t break the law so idk who is forcing them to do anything.
@@kingjamesfromthekingjamesbible The point isn’t about whether it’s the right thing to do, it isn’t either way. The point is that most fighters on the roster are in a financial position where someone can offer them significantly more than they would be making to guarantee the result and still be able to profit off the result. Think about how much money it would take to buy off enough important players on a football team to fix it, the guaranteed profit of betting a fix would be wiped out by that cost. Even if you would never sacrifice your morals for money, I’m willing to bet you work with at least a few people who would.
Now you have to wonder: how many of the judges were betting on the fights? 🧐 That would explain almost all of the downright wrong scores over the last few years.
A quality piece of journalism. I'd like to see more longform explainer pieces like this. GC needs to learn to contrast his outfits though, dude looks like a floating head! A nice powder blue is what's needed.
The sport is young and needs to mature, this is some of the things that needs to be addressed. I will be happy to see improvements over the next few decades
It's the UFC's problem letting this happen from the start. They knew exactly what he and others were doing and let happen until it created a problem. It was obvious what could come from all that inside info.
I watched this when it first aired and couldn't believe he was speaking openly about placing bets with fighters he's coaching. Lol Whether gambling is legal or not, it leaves the door open for a bunch of stuff. Betting against your guys can be profitable too, especially if you know they're gonna lose for sure. There's so many legal layers involved, as they're literally touching on as I'm writing this. James has always seemed like a bright guy, so this shocks me he risked speaking about this openly and couldn't see the potential consequences. Sucks for him.
You can bet on your fighters and yourself but you can’t bet against your fighters that’s suspicious the Derrick minner fight is when they caught wind and they don’t know how many times they did it
This is ridiculous. Krause didn’t break any rules or laws prior to October or whenever the new rules dropped. The new rules won’t stop anything, just make it prosecutable with ‘sanctions.’ How can you have all these gambling sponsors and expect no one to bet? Sounds like these rules should have been put in place before the gambling sponsors came in. Only problem with that is, the fighters would ask for money out of the deal and we all know the ufc ain’t parting with any of their sponsor money 😂
yeah but he has clearly broken the rules since then, he still had the discord dedicated to bets. You can pretty much guarantee he was breaking the rules after they came in to play. I'm sure they'd argue that he fixed the fight which was already illegal before the rule changed. But yes completely ridiculous that they didn't have the rules before hand, there's a lot of money in gambling and the house doesn't like to lose, very scummy industry.

I always thought Krause was smug asf since TUF. Old schh rock hold vibes although my opinion of Luke changed for the better. Much respect to him with that last fight
Wasn't there another big betting scandal outside of the UFC where fights that occured a day prior than being aired and bets were being taken based on TV dates?
Krause on his podcast once said his discord had a lot of highly successful people in all areas of finance. He kinda said that there is a chat offering help in real estate and stocks etc. Can’t recall exactly as it wasn’t a big deal like now. But maybe the $2K/month gave you stock tips and ran your acct. Just a thought. But it’s crazy he wouldn’t think how bad this could look
So far it looks like Krause is the scapegoat. He's not the only coach fighter etc etc to bet on fights they have direct knowledge of. All these rules should have been put in place long before they Cut MMA loose on the betting scene. JMO

This is definitely gonna snowball into something much bigger than what everyone is speculating. What if the UFC 279 had some shady backdoor deals given how nonchalant Dana was after Khamzat missed weight? Can opened…worms everywhere!
We’ve seen this before in the fixed 1919 World Series. Low paid, disgruntled athletes took $ to fix the series because they were paid peanuts, hated the owners, and had nothing to lose . The Supreme Court predicted this.

His integrity is trash in MMA now. And being banned from the UFC completely In life he shall be fine, but in the MMA world he will be behind the scenes coach and live off the scraps of being a faceless coach.
The next question we should be asking is, does Vegas insiders have any inside scoop or are they around fighters also because if not, how are they setting the lines if they have no clue what’s going on
21:00 it does, oddsmakers can slash odds without accepting the bet once a big bet shows up on their radar. They get the best of both worlds, they could not only decline a large bet but also slash the odds to deter others from following trying to bet, which encourages gamblers to make their bet elsewhere.
Derrick Minner's odds went from 37% down to 26%. That is quite big, but hardly falling off a cliff. I also doubt it would take a substantial amount of money for it to move so much, since hardly anyone would be betting on that fight anyway.
Meagan Anderson claimed they wanted her to lose, also she claimed Laura Sanko and James had an affair, if that’s true he’s got to be the luckiest guy in the world. She’s gorgeous.

It's not gambling but this situation should revisit a light to be shined on the fact that the UFC knew both Vitor Belfort and Brock Lesner had popped for performance enhancers prior to their fights with Jon Jones and Mark Hunt. The UFC knowingly allowed these fighters to fight having information that was illegal, against their own code of conduct and could change the outcome of the fights. There is overwhelming evidence that the UFC allows fights or even nudges fights towards a particular outcome.

It's basically impossible to regulate. All they can do is mitigate the flow of insider info as much as possible.
Dana 1 - Ariel 1. The saga is still being written to this day....to this DAY!!!
400 years!
To this day!
The UFC doesn't have to prevent fight fixing because they just have the judges fix the fight for them. Paddy/Gordon for example.

Thank you been waiting for this been so lost all week
Bruh..sorry you write too long wtf
@@gamebredo8880 sorry, I know reading is difficult for slow people.
Very, very good point about the transparency aspect. Corruption in combat sports has existed since their inceptions. I saw this coming a mile away, IMO it's more a coming of age story for a relatively new professional sport then it is a surprise.

I was a part of the Discord - and I can confidently say that James never picked against any of his fighters. He would often completely skip the fights that included his fighters.
Sooo what about Minner?
@@Skip-pv5lw Did he pick against Minner in the Discord?

@@lukeyluke14 also say he picks/bets on 6 out of 7 of his fighter's to win and the 7th he skips, to others that would mean he is not confident they will win or knows. So it would shift a lot of others to bet against that pick he skipped
Just last night, Fanduel put out an “odds boost” encouraging a bet that included Anthony Davis. Ironically, Davis left the game in the first quarter with flu like symptoms. Felt dirty.
they literally gave that money back
Wow ur so smart! It’s not like they didn’t give the money back or anything
Meanwhile the Las Vegas Commission has been doing this for decades.
Excellent reporting! I totally understand all of this now including that sudden October announcement that seemed to have come out of nowhere.
Might want to check on these judges bank accounts and hidden accounts, they would be an easy target for a betting syndicate to attempt to bribe.
The biggest problem is the MMA judges are allowed to place bets. This means the entire judging process is a fraud.
That’s wild
Wait, WTF?? Really??
No they can't lol
In the end, THE HOUSE ALWAYS WINS
If this whole betting thing is legal.. then Pete rose needs to be inducted into the MLB HOF. He always bet to win. So induct the man!

Aye but, as far as we know, he hasn't done anything illegal.
Dana said that no bets were made and then paid out, so no damage done. That was the lie.
Dana has a deeper issue of him being esklmo brothers with james
He is eskimo brothers with half of Las Vegas.
Oh my! Imagine shady things happening around gambling!😮
Surprised the TJ Dillashaw incident wasn’t talked about more here. He came into that fight completely disabled and people knew. This is exactly the same as the Minner fight no?

I wonder if any of Dillishaw's boys put a fat bet down on him losing... 🤔
Absolutely. I know I would have. Dumbass should’ve went to the PI MONTHS before the fight to get that shoulder looked at.
This could become a huge issue for the UFC. TJ Dillashaw fought for the title with an injury as well and someone could of used this info to make money off of it.
And what is the problem with that?
That should be looked into as well

It's crazy to me how long this has went on without anyone putting a stop to it. You can wager as a coach on your own fighter but not against? WTF?? With the prop wagers now being so popular, I don't see any difference in an NFL coach betting on a receiver of his to catch a certain amount of passes or an NBA coach wagering on a player of his to score over a certain amount of points. Each scenario could easily be manipulated by that coach to achieve the over/under props to win that bet.
Ya and the ones who are hurt by it are the sports books, that’s why they’re coming for him now he’s making too much money on them

Whether gambling is legal or not, it leaves the door open for a bunch of stuff.
I thought that was funny as well. Pete Rose comes to mind.
The new rules won’t stop anything, just make it prosecutable with ‘sanctions.’
How can you have all these gambling sponsors and expect no one to bet?
Sounds like these rules should have been put in place before the gambling sponsors came in. Only problem with that is, the fighters would ask for money out of the deal and we all know the ufc ain’t parting with any of their sponsor money 😂
He's not in the club that gets to financially scam without consequence. Some get to scam people out of billions of life savings.
yeah but he has clearly broken the rules since then, he still had the discord dedicated to bets. You can pretty much guarantee he was breaking the rules after they came in to play. I'm sure they'd argue that he fixed the fight which was already illegal before the rule changed.
