Adam Hills, Josh Thomas, Tim Minchin, Eric Bana, Charlie Pickering, Shaun Micallef, The Chaser, Wil Anderson, Carl Barron, Rove, Corinne Grant, Denise Scott... Just a tiny portion of great Australian comedians. We also host the Melbourne International Comedy Festival where famous comedians from around the world come and do gigs. We're doing okay with comedians in Australia.
remember being in Oz only a few days and Neil Delamere popped up on the Footy Show....couldnt believe it. But yeah its great seeing the Irish comeejuns doing well over there.
@HitchHikersBlues our love of the drink, we're also not afraid to tell you exactly what we think, as a country we do seriously seem to be lacking in tact.
I think you find most aussies love their "convict" ancestry real or perceived as the majority are post colonisation, but the ones that can trace their ancestry back to a convict past wear it as a badge of honour, so insulting them by highlighting their convict past is like water off a ducks back to them, shows with their continual fascination of an criminal/folk hero called Ned Kelly son of an Irish convict father.
The majority of white Australians are not descended from convicts, some are but that is a very small percent. Most people migrated to Australia after colonisation and were not convicts but Europeans. I don't understand why people think this is like a smack in the face of an Australian like 'HUH Gotcha you convict'. Oh yeah and all those convicts were from the UK anyway so I sense a bit of hypocrisy.
He's just so so awful... I have quite a few of his dvds, every time he is just so disappointing.. Every now and again he makes funny jokes, like now, other times its just awful.
Only the most crass and vulgar Aussies say "root" in that context. Most, or at least a lot of us still have enough dignity and standards of speech. For instance my nan will curse loudly and angrily at the drop of a hat, but you wouldn't dare say "Root" (in a vulgar context) or "Fuck" around her. The term pulls double duty as both definitions, like "Bolt" (Could mean to fasten/secure, or to run away/flee)
I do love hearing about Australia from the perspective of another country.
Gotta love RTE... Only in Ireland would a TV station feel the need to write an essay for it's UA-cam channel name...

Don't mean to bust on a joke but we also use 'rooting' when doing something, like 'quick rooting around barry and come root me'.
Thanks, enjoy.
I didn't realise 'root' was only an Aussie expression haha!
Hamish and Andy, Adam Hills, Carl barron, Rove, Eric bana...
Plus it's nigh on impossible to perform to full potential when you're talking to a plank like Tubridy.
