No access even when removing the TB on some GM 3.4L engines… like the 2000 Pontiac Montana. Took hours even after that point. Could only get 1/12 of a turn at a time coming at the bolt from underneath and using my fingertips to flip the wrench for another 1/12 a turn… assuming you don’t drop it over and over and over… which you WILL do since you are only able to reach from beneath with fingertips.
Do the throttle body cables come off tensioned properly with the throttle body? You are able to keep the cam and cables attached to the TB and get to the bolts to remove it?
I wish I would have watched your video earlier I just did reservoir tank for the radiator water pump and thermostat and that thermostat is the most stupid IDs somebody had to back it up right up against the exhaust I did it the hard way I didn't pull nothing but a couple lines out of the way and little by little got bolts out and back in
just changed mine today, only pulled the air box, yes that bolt sucked,, it took baby turns TIP....you dont have to pull it all the way out as the housing is slotted for those first timers
Yes it is! I just did another one the other day, my gf just bought a 03 Impala she was complaining no heat so I got to do it again but even quicker this time!
Can y'all help me? I just bought a 2002 Alero from my dad low miles and it overheats I grew up working on cars so I know I can do the job. But I'd rather change the thermostat and see if it fixes it before I tear the heads off. Good idea or what? The muffler is chalky so should I tear it down or not? (Head gaskets had been changed before along with upper and lower intake gaskets) lmk something pls
do it right....ive been doing this for years....dont be bs by others if you think you can change a thermostat alone you can do this job....alot of bs vids here telling other ways....NOPE! one simple solution.....remove the THROTTLE body! very easy to do!
@danterako2974 well it's pretty self explanatory and if you can't figure it out maybe you shouldn't be doing it ...plus the video is about 9 years old and I sold that car 6 years ago so there won't be another video....good luck!
Thanks brother. I need to replace my thermostat, and I appreciate the quick words of wisdom.
Thank you brother
Today is my day, thanks fishbone856
Awesome! I hope this helped you out! That car is long gone from my life lol!

Wish I'd read this first. LOL
Geniusly simple
When are you goin to remove lower bolt from the thermostat housing?
Actually if I remember correctly it only needs to be loosened as it has a slotted hole
Easier said than done I've been spending 5 minutes and I still haven't been able to get to that one bolt underneath the throttle body
Take your time and actually one of the bolts should have a slot and it doesn't need to be takin all the way out...you'll get it
Wow thanks for the video I've gotta do it today
Your welcome I hope this helps!
saved me some time thanks
Glad it helped!
thank you so much for this video !!!
Your welcome!
Does the housing have a gasket?.
You took off the Throttle body, that was different then the 3.4L van we did. Did you reuse Throttle Body Gasket or get a new one?
Reused mine it wasnt damaged in fact ive reused it twice now ive had it off before. but make sure you check for damage.

vol rising, the egr valve can cause the engine to overheat as well.
