@@collinrust2641 Yes they were tough to keep clean but Wallace Abbey, the guy who designed the scheme, was smart enough to know that things tend to get dirtier when they’re closer to the ground. When I paint a Soo Line model in the “old” scheme there are thee things I’m sure to get right and the kind of milky-white gray is one of them (getting the original red color and the unique shape of the “S” right are the others). Tru Color paint has done us Soo Line fans a favor by coming out with a very good representation of the correct shade of gray.
Awesome thanks great job with this style of movie equipment love it, when can we see more, ? please... I'd rather see more train railroad videos done this way. I also love the fact that the Rock Island is back !!! That in itself is spectacular alone and wonderful news to me... But this old style filming is the icing on the cake !!!
Hats off to you. This was a wicked cool and creative idea. I love how with a super 8 even new things look old. It puts things into perspective that what younger folks might think the past was like isn’t entirely accurate. I laughed when I saw the new vw by the garage and nothing really looked special about it bc the super 8 does not show the quality of the paint. Even your room seems old even though the video was taken 40 or 50 years after many of these style of movies were taken. I’m so used to watching these old super 8 films and thinking how mundane and plain life and culture was back then but I think it was just the quality of the footage and not that time it self that did it.
Absolutely love this, looks like something straight out of the 70s, would have been cool to film 2127 like this but to my knowledge it’s only run once yet and hasn’t moved since
I appreciate that. It definitely felt like I was stepping back in time when I filmed this. I wanted to see the C40-8 in action so bad but the owner said he won't be pulling it out of storage until later this year.
@@jadedfox4672 I think it runs just fine, but it's a road unit so it might be hard on the track which is in pretty bad shape. The owner told me he is expecting traffic to pick up and he's going to move a lot of sand at some point this year which would justify pulling it out of storage. If I go back, I'm taking a rental car because the roads down there are also very bad.
I bought Super 8 film from Pro8mm in California, they handled the processing and scanning. Their process is a little complicated, but damn the results are nice!
Half an hour of Super 8 film would be pretty expensive to shoot. I would have to plan another trip down to Mississippi and get in touch with the owner of the railroad to find out his schedule.
@@rockguitarist931unfortunately that is how things go these days. Everything is expensive. Kinda wish they had a few railcars painted up as I’d love to see them kicking around. Who knows and maybe we see an old EX-Rock island hopper next to a brand new one!
@@retr0bits545 I would love to go back and film more at some point, hopefully they get the C40-8 out soon. The roads I took to follow the railroad were really bad in some places, though, I'd have to look into getting a rental or going with someone who has a newer car.
Although - In regards to this neat favorite old style of filming I'd like to have the train sound audio also instead of the music... I think that would be perfect with the old film look . And maybe also no talking through it too but you know just the sound audio of the trains... But yeah again thank you so very much for doing something really neat and cool like this so nice ! Kudos 😊🤗👍
Next time I do something like this I'll take a tape recorder so I can sync up the audio and video for a more vintage effect. I actually filmed this for a short film called "Watercolor de America", and I decided to post it separately afterwards because why not??? I was thinking about going up to Pennsylvania to film the East Broad Top, I love narrow gauge and it'd be an excuse to get out of town.
Yes, they are still running! The owner of this short line and two others in Mississippi bought the Rock Island trademarks. His company is called "Rock Island Rail" and all his engines are painted in bankruptcy blue, other than the C40-8 which looks very handsome in the red and yellow livery.
I always like to see more old days films because it takes you back to better times , not like today... I've been tired of watching the modern videos of the bland and blagh of the lame ol same ol same ol drab shab BNSF, CSX, PanAm, G&W industries, and NS crapp and also if you've seen one HDdigital video you've seen em all !!!
Thanks for your comments. I'd love to go back and film more but the railroad is hard to chase because the roads are in terrible shape and they don't always follow the track. I was lucky to catch them when I did cause I couldn't stay for very long, I'd have to drive back to Mississippi to film more.
This is probably the coolest train video on UA-cam.
I really appreciate that, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Nice to see a unit in the blue paint but I think the railroad will see how challenging it is to keep it fresh-just like the original Rock found out.
or like the KCS after they painted everything white haha
Soo Line had white locomotives for years. Tough to keep clean.

Oh my .. 86 that’s 70’s music and play some Johnny Cash..

This is an incredible piece of vintage style footage. Thanks for posting this. Really enjoyed it! ☺👍
Thanks! I had a blast shooting it, I really felt like I was back in the 70's when I had the camera in my hand
Super. 💙 T.E.N.
nitty gritty dirt band!
thanks!
OUTSTANDING.
This is super cool! Love the look of the old camera. What did you use to convert from Super 8 to digital?

What kind of film stock did you use for this? Great video!
I think it was 200T from Pro 8mm in Burbank CA.
Great video!

I have one thing to ask and one thing only. When will we see more footage? I hope a half hour of footage is reasonable to ask for.

I don't know which was worse--the color scheme or the banjo music.
I'd say your attitude tops both of them.
