The soil is a mixture of Akadama soil and Kiryu sand.

余った苔を予備として増やしたい場合は、トレーや鉢に水苔と苔を半々くらいで混ぜて置けば水苔が苔に変わっているということですか？
水苔が苔には変わりませんが、水苔など水分を含みやすい物を土入れることで苔が増えやすくなると思います。自然に苔をむす撒き苔という方法です。
