As far as real special items like - your parents wedding photos - special family jewelry - special photos - college degrees - special documents- ect. goes - I think that you get the idea. Assemble a special built container that's about 4 ft. x 4ft. x 4ft and fill it with your real special items that one can't replace . Then store it for free at one your family's place. Maybe have two ! That may make you feel a lot better because you know that they are safely stored for free if you ever need them again. A lot of these type of items will fit in one or two containers.
Great inspiration, Rob and Allie! 🌻 Yep, I would have to keep a few bins of photos and gifts from family with my kids for sure. But the rest? Oh, my, yes -- no problem getting rid of it!
You talk a lot about people having a hard time getting rid of items like TVs and blenders, but the things that I would struggle with parting with the most are... 1) My art collection. I've been curating my gallery wall with pieces from small, local artists for 12 years and it's a huge part of what makes me feel at home. It's not stuff that I could easily just buy again like a TV. 2) A milk frother/steamer. It's a small appliance (about half the size of a blender) that allows me to make chai lattes at home. I've never seen one at any accommodations while traveling nor met anyone else who has one. Not that I wouldn't be able to buy one again, but I would still want to have one for life on the road so I don't go back to spending $5/day at Starbucks, but it would take up too much space in a suitcase just for that 1 small purpose, but having my chai latte every morning brings joy to the start of my day. 3) My clothes, shoes, and accessories. I've always loved fashion, so the idea of living with only what I can fit in a suitcase makes me sad.
Y’all are so interesting and fun to watch. You’re such great explainers. I think my husband and I are about your age. This is not a life that we’re looking for right now, but you both are so charming, classy, and pleasant to watch and learn from. I’m enjoying my new friends, Rob & Allie!
Thank for sharing. My Partner and I are discussing the possibility of downsizing and traveling full time. Questions: 1. How do you deal with mail? 2. How do you deal with banking / health insurance, or anything the requires you to have a physical U.S. address?
I have a lot of photo albums and sentimental things plus a antique piece of furniture from my great grandmother in Luxembourg. I don't think I am going to travel until I die... Lol... So I do think I will start with a storage unit.
Thank you for answering the clothing question. When you aren't on a cruise or traveling by train, do you stay in rentals (Air Bnb or VRBO) rather than hotels?

So, so many awesome ideas. I would have never thought of convertible pants.

Let's talk gift giving. 😮 I guess you don't give each other Christmas or birthday gifts? And your family doesn't give you gifts either?
Yes, true, we mostly get each other tickets to games or concerts and then we both go.
