How to Whip the End of a Rope (the Sailor Way)
Вставка

- The BEST way I've found to terminate the ends of the lines on the sailboat. This method is STRONG, allowing for the whipping to be passed through blocks and clutches, and worked on the boat. Hope this helps a few of you! Much love!

This is awesome man. Id love to have a ton of short, "how-to" knot guides from you. I can almost guarantee they'll be great content, youre such a good teacher and the replays you'd get would probably make them well worth the time to make for you.
Glad you dig them. I don't make the tutorial videos for the views, they just don't get as many. I do hope if some of you like these you'd consider supporting the videos on patreon. :)
...or another way - heat shrink tubing (adhesive lined) near the end instead of whipping. Tape the end, cut thru tape with very sharp knife, rotating to leave no fraying. Heat melt the cover, then "cold melt" the dyneema with crazy glue. Done very fast vs whipping line and stitching. Lasting 5 years and counting.
Yeah, I was wondering why all the bother with this old fashioned, but still cool, technique when a little heat and tech will do the job--probably better for modern plastic ropes.
I love sewing, I get as many holes in myself as I do in whatever I'm sewing. lol :)
I used to crew for my dentist friend on his racing dinghy. He used dental floss for the whipping thread.
Whip it, Whip it good.
Replacing my Halyards in situ this week and remembered watching this video sometime back. Very well explained and demonstrated. Appreciate your efforts. Thanks a bunch!
Nice whipping technique but video suggestion is to use contrasting colors and closeup in center. Blue on blue hard to follow by older eyes.
You should make some old school monkey fists. Just so much fun to make.
May I ask what thread your using
You remind me of myself 40 years ago
Hey there, this is such a helpful tutorial on whipping the end of a rope! Your clear instructions and demonstration make it easy to follow along and learn. I totally agree with other viewers who mentioned that you should make more "how-to" knot guides. Your teaching skills are top-notch, and I'm sure they would be fantastic content that people would love to watch. Keep up the awesome work, you're a great teacher! 👍😊
Thanks guys :) You're sweet. Will keep it up!
Wow,,,very skilled👍👍👍
Thank you 👍

Awesome. Great teacher
❤❤❤
Fantastic tutorial James. I can always learn a thing or two even at my age and apply it not necessarily in a nautical application. 👍
Awsome, Great video , GReat Teaching
Hi James,
Thanks a lot for all your tricks and advices. I was a sailor too, but canadian navy...
Merry Christmas James 🙂
Skull,
Skull, we'll let you slide on that one. ;) Thanks for your service, shipmate!
Hey you finding the new lines easier to work with even compared to 5 years ago? I've noticed the need for a glove is optional it's strange.
Yes I love the new high-tech lines. But holy crap not the prices.
You warm the coecles of an old sailors heart.
Sailors obviously have a lot of time on their hands at sea and in port....
because sailors know, better in port to carefully repair rigging then underway at sea 😸
I remember this from your other video. Thanks again. Good technique.
No place to post James.....I love these types of videos... DIY!!
You're very welcome!
Cool love this one!
Sweet!
3rd. Thanks for the tip captain!
Coarse, my friend.
How is that better than just using a match or cigarette lighter? Same end result, much less effort.
Two reasons: 1. The core in this line doesn't melt. 2. The melted end will eventually fray. This is a permanent solution.
