Way to go, Brian You finally caught your first winter steelhead of the season. You didn't give all your luck away. Giving the Chris Loomis rod away. Those cohos are still fun to catch though. Awesome video. Keep your head up, buddy. Talk to you soon.
Nicely done! That’s a good looking steelie! Not a better feeling than getting your first one of the season! Hoping I get that feeling this weekend. Your new rod w/the silver on it looks great! Keep the videos coming! You have great content
They can be very elusive. Especially your first one! 50 years ago, when I was living in west Michigan I fished hard for almost FOUR YEARS before finally hooking up with my first one. Funny thing? After that they came easily. I guess I unlocked the secret. I moved to Oregon in 1987 and by then I was strictly fly fishing for them. I don't get as many on the fly as I did using the bait casting reel, but hooking up on a swinging fly is MUCH more fun.
One big difference. Every one of them in the Great Lakes are hatchery fish, and as you know, there's a big difference in how a hatchery fish fights versus a 'mostly' wild fish. (The gene pool is so contaminated, I don't believe there is any 'pure' wild fish anymore) Other than that, its the obvious things you would expect. None of the steelhead in Lake Michigan have sea lice like the fresh ones in the coastal streams, and of course you'll never find a steelhead in Michigan that shows a 'close call' with a sea lion. LOL
@@AutomagicFishing You asked about the difference between west Michigan fish and Pacific NW fish. Here's a great example. The water temp is every bit as cold as Michigan gets but these fish are screamers. This 'unclipped' average fish went from one end of that run to the other in the blink of an eye. I've never seen a Michigan fish do that, but it's fairly common out here. They simply never quit! Start at the nine minute mark. ua-cam.com/video/M0Oj1OvaudQ/v-deo.htmlsi=SeqkKFB3TTeVB1ro
Bill Herzog is the person that I got it from about Steelhead not actually being a fish of 1000 casts. He said that it could be a fish of very few cats if the cast are done properly in methodically in the right place at the right time with the right conditions
He'll yes buddy you got your steelhead! Congrats on banking that sucker after grinding 3 whole days! That must have been all nerves once you saw that chrome flash and any head shakes/rolls after haha.
So who’s cooking you or Jennifer?? Steelhead is a favorite between my husband and I- although I’ve never had a freshly caught steelhead. But we have crab stuffed steelhead with a aged fig balsamic vinegar drizzle over the top. It is to die for.
Brian, great episode. Brian, did you have your lucky split shot in your cheek. That new rods looks great and the action was great. It's just a matter of time before you start load up your hatchery catch card.👏👏👏
Whaaaat? I knew it was coming! Havent yet watched this, so please wait until i finish video and finish comment! You dont need luck, just one steelie in front of you! It's the steelhead that should be nervous! 2 beads or not 2 beads, feels like a rhetorical question. Uh, no feeling about catchi..boom! How about now? Still no feeling about catching a steelhead? Hahaaa! Sweeeeet! Brian is on the board! First one is the hardest, now you'll sleigh, since it's that Season! Merry Christmas to Automagic Fishing! Standing ovation, he shoots, he scores, and the crowd goes wild! Encore, encore! It's a dandy buck, yummy! Now your cancelling your pkans for later, right? Just tell em ya got truck or car problems. Was that your new Virgin rod from Morgan's Custom Rods? Sandwich sounds good! I woke up at 1 am, and searched for you, and what a great start for my day! 😴 I'm ordering some merch from you on Wednesday. Rumor is you rolled extra ju-ju into that new rod yourself. Your eggs are like Crack for steelies. What kind of hook do you run for beads? Different than eggs, I'd guess. That rod looks sweet! Nice work on it, Brian! Ouch! The Broken? So its named after me? Hahaa! I put my cane away 5 days ago, mister! 🤣 I plan on falling down streamside plenty this year! Fellow Brokens, unite! You just needed a bit more water and a Morgan's Custom Rod. Keep feeling "not," it worked for you! Am I right? Nice looking spinner, the Steelhead Slammer. Nice coho release, smooth. I like using double beads. Your new rod is also a coho slayer! It sure looks awesome, I can't wait to get mine! Nice long video, thanks for sharing. It's getting me pumped up for the winter season! Limits tomorrow! 🤞👍 Don't give up!
William Thank you again for sponsoring my rod build “The Broken’ !! It named after all of us that are on the mend one way or another. It’s a Coho seeking sniper Rod for sure!! Glad they were not fresh fish. The Rod handled them tanks with such poise I thought!! I cringe hooking them this time of year and wish they would hurry up and get done already. Are they still spawning or just done and waiting to rot??
Nice video Brian was cool to see ya get some fish on the new rod even if it wasn't the target species also I've heard of people having a issue like that with korkers but I've never experienced it myself had my river ops for 2 years now
@AutomagicFishing the right max are wild broodstock returns but in reality they mostly have F1 parents. We should do a episode checking the traps and spawning fish!
Great question. The bobber tells you what you want to know. Tilted down river means it’s outrunning your weight. Straight up and down means weight is suspended. In low water conditions I prefer suspension. High fast water I want to slow things down. I’ll let the bobber poll the gear down river. Hope that helps
@@AutomagicFishing I understand. Our opinions differ. In this video you almost lost the fish due to the net laying on the bank. And, it's just another piece of gear you have to carry around. If that's worth it to you, it's worth it to you. Tight lines. Love your Channel. Go Beavs
I’ve been grinding for about a month now man. A couple bites, but no fish. LOL that’s how the cookie crumbles, we don’t get a lot of steelhead in the river I fish. Still… Getting out there and fishing is relaxing lol.

Thank you, Curtis, it seems like the new rod that I built is like a heat seeking missile for Coho, maybe it’ll also be great for Steelhead
@AutomagicFishing it will be good for steelhead
Beautiful fish, can feel your excitement!!!
I think since it had been so long since I caught a chromer I was extra

Nice work.....way to stick with it. It was cool to see your excitement and what a good lookin steely!!!
Heck yeah Ryan!! You going to be around any time soon??
Nice job, Brian. Persistence paid off. Nice steelhead.
Doesn’t always pay, but this time it did!!
Sometimes it’s good to have a difficult time catching! It makes it more sweet when it does happen
Congrats on reaching 2000 subscribers
Thanks!! 😊 we’ve chipped away at it!!

Is the steelhead here much different here?

@@MaizeANDBlue1957 this is cool info. I think I can agree on no more true wild fish.
Makes sense on not having seal marks and sea lice.

You got to have those positive vibes. Any cast can turn a frown into a grin at any time.
That’s really true
never give up pays off ❤️🇺🇸
That’s right!! Don’t stop trying!!
You're so good to the fish
I try to be.
The winter is young, Brian. You’ll catch plenty of those lil turds this year like you always do.
I do get a few as the season rolls around!! Thanks for watching
That curado is one of the good ones from when they were hand made. It’s priceless nowadays. Not a lot of left handed ones up for sale
Good reel for sure
Congratulations Brian! Well done! 😊 Rage fishing is an awesome channel. I also like anything Bill Herzog.

Gorgeous waters

lol 😆 no joke! I saw the fish and knew it was a Steele!
Is this your rod you just made? I think so. It's awesome how cool to fish a rod you personally made.
I love the added connection it gives me
Awesome video, thank you
Thank you. 😊 you are welcome
Let’s go dude! Trying to get my dad to take me up there to the hatchery this weekend🤞. Tight lines!
Good luck if you go!!
Congrats on the early steelhead
Yes!!
Nice fish!! I’ve almost hit the 1000 cast mark, hoping to hook my first steely soon! Going out this week. Fingers crossed.
Just don’t give up, keep fishing! That seems to be true more than it’s not

It doesn’t get much fresher than that one, straight out of the river and into the oven
Barbie, that recipe sounds fantastic. Brian needs to have a recipe page so people can post their favorite recipes

Way too keep at it.
It’s not always easy to keep after it. It really tried my patience
Kinda cool to catch and release.
I can be selective on keeping fish
Nice job way to get the goose egg out of the way for the season!!!
Seems like mother Goose wants to keep giving me eggs.
Went today in high water and got a zero
@ I would’ve traded you locations, I was in my driveway putting valve stem seals on my car. Fishing sounds way better!!

@AutomagicFishing it just came off when you were talking down the trail??
Nice fish Brian! Keep up to good work
Thanks sir!
You caught a steelhead, congrats
Thanks
Great fish brother!! I'm all ready to go.
This rain will help
Awesome fish love the tips and tricks
Thanks Joe!
Such a beautiful place to fish. God sure is a wonderful creator
That’s the truth
Congratulations bud🎉🎉🎉
Thank you!!😊
Carry on!

At the start using spinner bot good its a worm or eggs bead
Easily begin fishing, a fishing spot with beads and eggs, and then finish with spinners
How do you know where to cast your line?
Read water and have an educated guess.
How do you know how far to let your line out?
Not sure
Shoe came apart, crazy time for new shoes?
No I think I just got caught on something
😂Hooked a trout in that same spot 2 weeks ago!
The T-rout are here and there as expected
How come salmon do not hold in faster water, too weak before dying?
You got it! That’s my belief
Congrats that's a traditional stock according to the left max clip, only 25 % of the fish planted.
That’s so cool that you know that!! Thanks

Hey, could we go fishing with you sometime?
On the private property I have limited access.
We’ve talked about fishing together up north. That’s probably going to happen at some point.
don't give up is right. Great efforts. Lose the friggn' net. Those things are a nightmare unless you are in.boat
It’s definitely handy in certain situations where Annette is the only way to bank a fish

A few miles.
Quit being so hard on yourself. Your a great fisherman

You hope coho are cleared out so you don't catch a fish your unable to keep?
Yes. No sense in lip piercing for no good reasons
