I'm missing that nut at the very bottom part. does yours even come out? I just have a hole at the bottom so there is nothing for the plunger to screw into... Don't ask me what happened to it - Ive never even taken the thing apart and now go to make coffee and it doesn't plunge down. I'm blaming it on my roommate.
I had the same problem. I'm pretty sure the bottom nut came off as I was washing the thing. I didn't even realize this until I tried to put the filter back together. Should be easily fixed, I'll take the top nut to a hardware store and ask for another one, same size...
Yeah if you back it off a few threads and use needle nose to tighten it it can work also you actually do need to take this apart each time and rinse the old grounds out. The grounds acumulate and make the seals loose.

spacer keeps sliding up the shaft of the press and the screens are going all over the place.
