I used to live in Albany. Moved out 30+ years ago. Lived in the Pine hills neighborhood. It WAS a great place live and raise a family until the State University students moved in and ruined it turning it into one big ghetto. Crime and rundown buildings are now the norm. It never used to be. If you're thinking about moving there the neighborhoods west of Manning boulevard is the way to go.
None of these Neighborhoods are very safe or quiet. The only one good and semi-safe in Albany listed is Buckingham Pond area. Try Delmar, Slingerlands, Elsmere, Colonie, Latham or Guilderland for a nice middle-class neighborhood close to Albany for commutes. If you are single and young, Center Square is fun for partiers. I lived there for more than 20 years. Not quiet nor very safe though. Marion Ave. in Albany might be the nicest street in the city. It sort of starts the Buckingham Pond area.

Agreed - I've lived in Niskayuna since the 70s and would never consider living in downtown Albany like this video suggests unless you want to get mugged. Go for the suburbs of which there are plenty of safe, high end neighborhoods.

Most people that work in Albany live in the suburbs such as Clifton Park and Halfmoon. Me for example.

From the point police station up to SUNY, it’s all pretty safe and residential. Nothing from St. Rose to downtown.
