The moment you saw the mother you walk away. She won't approach her baby in front of outsiders. Generating of being hunted has taught them better. Hope the little thing is still living a happy life
The mother often leaves her baby for a whole day or night so she can find food. Her milk is very rich and will keep the baby fed all day. It's completely normal. I suspect this baby was talking/crying because it was frightened of the man, and not in any danger at all.
I Had A Fawn , Very Smart , I Waited 2 Days To See If Mom Was Going To Come Back And Never Did , So I Brought Her Home With Me , I Was Mommy Then , She Followed Me Around , I Left Her Out In The Yard With My Mother And She Cried Til I Returned , I Live In The Country And She Comes Home Very Day To See Me .... She Is 9 Years Old Now And Has Had Babie's Of Her Own That She Has Brought To See Me ....
also people think the fawn is abandoned cause its momma isnt around. well the fawn can't walk very good so momma leaves it in a hiding spot and only comes back to give it milk a few times a day. The fawn doesnt have a very strong scent but mom does so she stays away so she doesnt lead predators (foxes, coyotes, bears, mountain lions, even racoons) So just cause you watch the fawn for hours and momma never shows up it is NOT abandoned, leave it alone
Young fawns spend almost their whole day sleeping. I saw one have breakfast, lie down in the same spot, get up to stretch a couple times until Momma came back. It takes them a while to grow into their legs, so they appear wobbly at first.
The mom is ALWAYS close by, she leaves and keeps a distance to protect her young. Baby is nervous of the human! So it called out...but normally you would not hear from the little one! Leave babies alone, mom is close, just trying to protect her baby. :)
Frequently mothers hide their babies while they feed themselves... The babies are only in danger by those who won't leave them alone...Mama knows what she is doing.
I've lived in rural areas all my life and seen fawns and deer, but I've never seen anything that incredible before. To actually see a tiny fawn in the wild is rare, but to be able to see Mama come and get it is awesome. Our natural tendency is to want to "rescue" the adorable little things so that we can pet them, but if Mom is there, the natural life's really the best life for them. I loved the way you talked to the baby and the mama, and I found myself "talking" to Mom, too. Great video.
I have one in the duck run for now trying to remastered it with mom apparently bobcat broke of the family and so for noe I m sittin till mom comes back as protector
Looks like momma deer was trying to teach baby deer a lesson on survival by keeping a short distance away, but close enough to respond in a dangerous situation. Maybe she was hoping the little guy would find her on his own. I am so in envy of your house location! I dream of living in such an area far from the big city and bright lights. I imagine your view of the night sky is stunningly beautiful on clear nights. Since moving to the city the beauty of a star filled sky has disappeared.
I live in East Texas and we have a sizeable white tail population. I was driving to work one night on a county highway and noticed a big doe just standing in the road. I slowed then stopped and she bolted to the other side of the highway. I walked back to where she had been standing and there was a week old fawn that had just been hit. Sadly it was beyond my help but I knew that the mother would be next if I didn't get the fawns body off the road. I moved it well off the road and shed a few tears. The mother doe could grieve safely and hopefully live to produce a new fawn.
Oh wow, hunting season must be rough out there. These deer are terrified of humans. Our local deer are skittish of humans, but never that scared. It's fascinating to see the difference in environments, that the deer in a peaceful environment never cry out in the presence of a human (they do not get hunted in their territory) or in general. It's kind of heartbreaking to see such an adorable creature recoil so horribly at the sight of a human, as I'm so used to them sniffing at me and being generally curious, watching them play with our cats and our dog. I've watched them play with the rabbits. I'll go out to cut down the alder tree's growing in my back yard and next thing I know I'm surrounded by deer dining on the freshly fallen foliage with a baby deer waiting patiently for me to fall another one. I've seen them run from dogs, and the mothers go from very peaceful to bloodlusting battering rams (i've seen a deer chase a dog for an hour straight attempting to stomp it to death for trying to attack it's child). Both those deer were really tense, I'm a little surprised the mother wasn't more aggressive and confrontational. They look terrified. Poor things must have a real hard life... thank you for being so sweet to that fawn, but don't be too nice... something tells me those deer wouldn't last long if they trusted humans to any extent.

"I'm a little surprised the mother wasn't more aggressive and confrontational." Same here, since does have actually attacked humans when defending fawns.
@@dbzgal04 yeah, they can get vicious, but sometimes they opt to abandon in favor of having another kid, except if they're older, then they put more in to the kids life.
I think what you're supposed to do when the Mom comes back is step aside. If she she's a human by the baby, she will be more reluctant to go to the baby, and will wait for the human to leave.
Us humans always want to help - and rightly too - but the baby was just scared of the man, there wasn't anything else wrong. The mother was fine, she was just feeding nearby and left her baby in a safe spot. That's normal. She ran across the yard to try to distract the guy (who she thought was a predator) away from her baby. If you see a fawn like this, just walk away and leave it alone so the mother can come back.
But if someone thinks it's been "abondoned" and moves it, the mother cant find it again and thats one less deer that will ever be wild. (and knowing that most people who "adopt" baby animals are the ones that havent the slightest idea how to care for them and they die)
very glad you didnt touch it. most people dont know that fawns are scentless so any hint of human scent and the mom will abandon them. Kudos to you! and great footage too
I had the same thing happen to me today walking home from a convenient store i thought it was hurt but then saw momma across the street. I think moms will leave them to find food but wont go far

+C Smith It obviously WAS left alone for a while if it came out of hiding though and was calling like that. It would be about the time to begin to be concerned and watch for if the mother answered.
she's trying to lead u away from the fawn I've seen then fake injuries to entice a predator to go after them instead of the babies birds to this as well its a defense mechanisms nice vid
The primary defense a mother deer employs when their fawn is in danger is to take off running to draw attention away from their baby. She lingered hoping the filmer would chase her and leave the fawn alone. It's already been said but abandoned fawns are almost never abandoned, leave them alone.

they are often safe in america where predators are rare, the story may be very different with deers in Africa's nature.

You are very right in that regard, mama will often leave her fawn somewhere safe so it's spots can camouflage it.
I've seen Mama deer call to their fawns like ringing a dinner bell.
We had one curled up by our house this morning, in the exact same spot it was in a couple days ago. They sleep a lot when they're young.

Loved the way that mother ran.
I am always amazed to hear humans talking to a wild animal as if some how the animal understands what they are saying.
Man: Are you ok? Fawn: OMG MOM! SAVE ME

When you see a baby deer (fawn) in the wild or near your home, don't disturb or bother him. His mother will come soon.
I seen somwhere that mother deer will leave the fawn while she goes out to get food and come back later in the day. Looks like a prime example here.
mama finally comes to save the baby deer
Woah! I didn't even see him at first...cute.
very glad you didnt touch it. most people dont know that fawns are scentless so any hint of human scent and the mom will abandon them. Kudos to you! and great footage too
The mom did what all deer moms do. She ran around to try to distract any danger from her babe.
That's was awesome. Thanks for sharing.
Mother ran pass instead of to the fawn. She was trying to distract you and get you to follow her away from the fawn.
You sure?
You saw too many cartoons
Why too smart
I agree with you....
Mama put her baby near your house on purpose. She felt it would be safer there than elsewhere.
We have a doe that seems to prefer having and leaving her babies near our house. I love seeing them.
just beautiful
Cute little baby. 😍😍😍
that is so awesome .wish i lived somewhere like that .
this reminded me of Bambi when he calls "mother"!
BECAUSE IT'S SO GOD DAMN CUTE!

Geez man go in the house and then the mom won't be afraid to get her baby.
I just "LOVE" deer. They are my favorite animal. And I would never hunt them.

Yes. It's a myth that baby animals (birds, deer, etc.) will be abandoned by their parents if a human touches it.
Aaaaaaawwwww so cute 🥰 glad it’s okay
