I lost my berner "Cadette" 3 years ago at 6 years of age due to bone cancer. Benny looks almost exactly like she did, and has the exact same personality - quirks and all !!! It's almost like I'm watching my Cadette run & play again ! I know how much you love him - to the moon & back ! ❤
hi congratulations on the 5k viewers. we are only looking at it for two more weeks. our bernersennen has gone too early for 8 weeks, he was our 3 bernersennen dog, but after watching your videos we again felt like a new dog. and you guessed it again the same because once and Bernnennen always one. her name is Ilse 8 weeks old and he loves her. greetings to bennie greetings Peter Tjitske Hoekstra and Ilse
Love Benny's expressions and Mom's way of talking to him. We have a Berner too. But oh my, those floors are so so hard on Bernie. Will you be getting carpets I hope??
Smokie Mountain Bear (our precious Bernie) loves to watch Benny with his beautiful long tail - hers was doc’d by her mom when she was a puppy. We like it the way it is as she would knock people over if it was long like Benny’s with her “l love everybody” antics... Smokie says good night now..... bye
I was wondering if you have any baby pictures that you would like to share of your dog on this UA-cam I'd love to see some baby pictures of Buddy thanks
Hi there, Firstly thanks for the videos they are awesome. Me and my girlfriend are based in the UK and looking into getting a Bernese Mountain Dog. I can't see any drawbacks to owning one as everything about the breed is awesome! However, I did wonder how manageable the shedding of fur is? Is it easily controllable with regular brushing and vacuuming or will your house always be covered in fur? Thanks in advance and keep up the good work! Luke
You're welcome! And it's pica, not pics... darn autocorrect! (Now edited.) We used to have a Berner (named Iko) who liked to eat certain types of paper. We thought maybe his breeder used shredded newspaper for bedding and "all the kids were doing it" and they may have even picked up the bad habit from Mom. But actually newspaper wasn't his "paper of choice", he preferred things like tissues, napkins, paper towels, used sanitary pads (ew, thankfully that only happened once), and once $100! At least paper comes out the other end ok, and yes I salvaged and sanitized the 5 $20 bills which were each ripped in 4-5 pieces, lol. He'd occasionally eat cloth too, like a dishrag, dish towel, used socks and dirty underwear (again, ew), and he'd pretty much get cloth items down in one piece, so sometimes at poop-time we'd have to grab a tissue or leaf or something for finger protection and gently help pull it out the other end (not real pleasant for him, or us, lol). One time we were almost home from a walk, and he stops in his tracks and barfs up an elastic waistband from hubby's underwear, lol. He must've eaten the rest too because we didn't find any elastic-less undies lying around the house, but we never saw that part again, lol. I think he was smart enough to put 2 and 2 together about cloth not working out so well because he stopped that pretty much on his own. I didn't really know about pica at the time... just chalked it up to him being a hog-dog who was always hungry (he'd raid the kitchen trashcan for food sometimes too... you'd think we didn't feed him enough, but if we fed him more he'd start getting fat) and also to his doggie compulsions. Sometimes he'd be good for a long time (we did keep the house Iko-proofed - no preferred paper in reach, bathroom trashcan on countertop, gallon jug of water on kitchen trashcan lid, etc), it was almost like he'd forget about the compulsion for a long while... but then he'd see an opportunity, and sometimes he'd still be good, but other times he couldn't resist the temptation, and then he was hooked again for a while, until he'd remember it wasn't worth getting in trouble and having us mad at him, lol. Sorry to go on about my own dog! While our Berner's pica was probably based on hunger and compulsion, I'd tend to think eating mud is based on a mineral deficiency, especially if your mud is clay-rich. At least I think that's what it indicates in children. Maybe your vet can do blood tests or something to check on that. If after addressing any problem, the behavior continues, maybe a dog trainer or behaviorist can help. Depending on what all he's ingesting with the mud (and for anyone else reading whose dog eats other outdoor stuff), some things are undigestible and don't always makes it out the other end, no matter how big the dog is, and eventually leads to problems... my sister worked for a vet for like 35 years, and she'd tell me stories of opening up stomachs of St. Bernards and finding rocks or a mass of sticks. I know this is long, but I hope it's been helpful, to you and to anybody else reading! Hopefully sweet Benny doesn't have such issues......
@@TieDyeVikki yogi is now 8 and I'm kinda thinking we are stuck with what he does, in my experience they love continuation in their lives, anything different is like a red flag. I/we lost my dad 6 weeks ago and even though he's always occasionally done the pooping thing, I think he's missing him, we all are. Sensitive dogs bernese, and ours is very much part of the family. We've had 3 over the course of my life, I'm 41 now, but all I do is walk him 2 times a day, (small walks) and try to keep his routine as similar as he's used to. Thanks for replying, and I'll take your advice on board, especially the trying not to shout at him when he eats mud! Tried it the other day with dog biscuits, I can tell his body language when hes about to do what he wants, the field we walk is currently waterlogged, he came running over, ate the biscuit then went back off to the mud 🤔

I’ve heard if you brush daily it helps a lot. But I know not everyone has time for that. I know I don’t. We do have a lot of fur just everywhere! Lol
No, no necesitas gorro de fiesta. Tu eres muuuuy lindo.🍨
When you have Benny outside off leach does he ever run to other people or dogs? If so how do you train him not to?
He only runs to the neighbors he knows . Because they usually call him over lol
Benny need a Raincoat?
Hope he doesn't start eating mud like mine does!
I suggest you google "pica disorder in dogs" and talk to your vet.
