- Join me for the first official event of the Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead) festival in Oaxaca, Mexico! I dive into the vibrant chaos of the Magna Comparsa (Grand Parade), where locals and tourists come together to celebrate this beautiful tradition.
Experience the energy of the parade as colourful costumes, lively music, and joyful dancing fill the streets. But the fun doesn’t stop there! The following day, we get into the spirit with stunning Catrina makeup and take you to an incredible costume contest, showcasing the creativity and passion of the participants.

We just got back from Oaxaca from the festivities. Such an incredible time. I hope you two had as much fun as my wife and I did.
When my wife and I got married, this was our honeymoon destination. We had such a great time. You missed out by not visiting one of the "Panteon"s. That was a moving experience that I hope I can experience again.
That sounds nice- I went to the Panteon Xochimilco the day after the video was recorded. There's a video of that too

Wow! That's so interesting and makes a lot of sense. Thanks for the info!
❤❤❤
That was famous comedian Eugene levy
Right! That's his name...
Mexico has become sort of an amusement park for the world, yet it’s wild free and mysterious.

Ya I don't think parades were part of the day of the dead back in the day .Back in the day you would of course build your alter at home with 7 levels picture/pictures of the deceased flowers fire water stuff they enjoyed/liked when they were around each level of the alter represents something I just can't remember what .People would go to the cemetery clean and decorate the graves spend all day and night at the cemetery with lots of decorations candles flowers mariachi bands playing all night lots of food etc.I think the parade part came years later and many young people in Mexico know about Halloween here in the USA so now many young people in Mexico wear Halloween costumes during the day of the dead.
Halloween came from the Celtic countries of ancient Ireland, UK, and Western Europe (Although there is little recorded from Western Europe and England). The Irish and Scottish celebrated Halloween and brough it with them when they immigrated to the 'New World'. The Ancient people of Mexico had a completely different celebration that was around the same time. I.e. Soon after harvest.... The USA (particularly in the southern states) now celebrates a mixture of these festivals with influence.
I was also very surprised to see local Mexicans here dressed up. Some were dressed up as characters like Mario and Luigi. I would have thought that was inappropriate.
Yes I think you're right! I heard that 'moving' parades are only a thing that started in the last 10 years or so. Apparently there were stationary parties that had the same sort of props as the parades, according to what I read.
you are 100% right. saddly times have changed and this has become a generic tourist atraction
Nosotras queremos aprender.
Oops... I'll try to edit that where I can. Thanks for the head's up!
dia "DE" muertos ASTA CUANDO LO APRENDERAN LOS EXTRANGEROS
