I think Jim got the categories in opposite. Elite players are players who are playing consistently in the highest leagues of the country. England, Spain, etc.
Top players are the ones playing for the cream of the crop. They remain there because they're top.
Sean Dyche, Gary O'Neil, Thomas Frank, etc are elite coaches, but they aren't top coaches.
Any striker can have a bad patch obviously.
However the difference with him and the super top guys is that they fight their way out of the rutt, whereas Rashford seems to dwell in it for absurdly long periods.
Unfortunately at the highest level where the margins are so tight a dip in your mental state can make a lot of difference.
That's where he is lacking, to the point where of all the recent United strikers - Weghorst included - I think Rashford could be bottom of the in-game mental strength department.

There was replays showing Rashford just trotting after Ross Barclay who just ran around him like he was nothing. I watched Rashfords game intently on Sunday and he is a goal scrounger, he is that goal scrounger when your a kid who is totally offside when your playing on a park just waiting for his teammates to do all the graft so he can get a tap in. He is always in space when the opposition have got the ball like he is waiting for his teammates to make a tackle or an interception so Rashford can use a bit of pace to try and get a shot on goal, he is a goal scrounger...

Pundits are such hypocrites. Bruno has been average since his first season and horrible this season. Not to mention a horrible leader and captain. Yet, they still rate him as a top player. If MR was a top player last season and not this season based on stats, then the same should apply for Bruno, right?

To be considered among the top level of players u gotta perform consistently over a period of years & Rashford simply hasn't done that. He's shown flashes of brilliance but he's just not consistent enough

His energy (most likely under instruction) is to be used on hurting the opposition while attacking, not wasting it pressing a midfielder who isn’t going anywhere.
