It's sad to see many households affected by the flood. As a Chinese guy, I feel so sorry for flood affected areas. I don't know why they released water from the dam. If the situation happen regularly, a solution need to be put forward. Nat. you are very kind and knowing very well about hardship of low class people

Serious flooding; we have heard the very bad flooding in Vietnam, especially Hanoi and Haiphong; the Red River crested and many lives lost; I can't imagine Laos is in better position; the Melkong River wil likely crest over its banks in many areas where there is no history of such high water .... I pray all goes well in the end.....

It's devastating to see so many homes and businesses under water. I hope and pray for the water levels to decrease soon. 🙏 It's comforting to see so many people helping each other move and salvage their belongings, but i hope there will be more resources for them to clean up and rebuild their properties. Be careful and stay safe. Thank you for sharing this update. ❤

Whoever is blaming China is crazy and do not understand how nature and dams work. If not for the dams, Laos would have experienced uncontrolled flooding all at once. Think about it. Use some common sense. They needed to release the water to alleviate pressure and avoid flooding upstream but at a controlled fashion. Either way Laos was gonna get inundated but in a controlled way. Imagine flash flooding where more lives would be lost on top of no time to evacute. In fact, another storm is brewing just around the corner! Which is why China informed the Laos government that they must release water so the previous storm water can reach the ocean! If not it would be 2 times worst!

when it comes building dams... weather is never on your side going forward because you collect water to the rim than this happened, now time is not on your side; release-release-release the water, now down stream people are stuck and struck and the government dont suffer, but the poor does.
its all about water management, a lesson learned hopefully next year it may be the same or worse because if yagi is the strongest... future wise it will get worse. it's too late to plan trees. to help solve the problem is stop cutting trees and build less dams. i would hate to see phou bia goldmine sub-aqueous tailings disposal lake break it's bank and have a go...

That's awful! I wonder if the people are getting any recompense from China for losing their homes and livelihoods? Not to speak about the extent of the environmental damage. All the trash, plastic and chemicals washed in the river... Are those dams really worth it when this destruction is the result? I hope no lives were lost.
