    I've had the Nikor 50 mm f1.8 and also the f1.4 and I'm pissed I spent the extra money on the f1.4, can't tell the difference at all. The 35 mm F1.8 is still my favorite lens and beats almost everything
    I don't know about everybody else but with such a low zoom as 50 I often find that if I'm using a manual focus lens I can't see well enough to determine if I have the focus perfect.

      I had the same feeling. The 50mm 1.4 is definitely softer than the 50mm 1.8. But people said it is the out of focus rendering and the transition that makes the 1.4 superior. Especially in portraiture where maximum sharpness is not the main concern. Still, I sold my 50mm 1.4 and I kept the 1.8. I also have the 35mm 1.8, very nice focal length indeed for street photography.
      About manual focus at 50 or 35mm, there are two reasons why it is difficult to confirm focus in those focal length. First the angle of view is wide so the subject tend to be smaller. Second the depth of field is largerr than in tele lens. For Dslr, I was using view finder magnifier and it helps. Another solution is to use live view and zoom. For mirrorless, you can zoom in view finder or live view to confirm focus.

      Crop sensor + street photography -> definitely Nikon 35mm 1.8G
      Full frame + street photography -> definitely Nikon 50mm 1.8G (not in the review)
      Portrait at F/1.4 budget -> definitely Yongnuo 50mm 1.4
      Quite and fast F/1.4 -> definitely Nikon 50 1.4G
      It depends on the intended use and your camera. The price differences between the Nikon 35mm and the Yongnuo 50mm is not big. You can get a used Nikon 35mm for the price of a new Yongnuo. If you use a cropped sensor camera and do street photography then get the 35mm because the angle of view of the 50mm is a bit too narrow for street photography. For portrait, get the 50mm. If you are on a tight budget but need the 1.4 then get the Yongnuo. If you want a quite and fast focusing lens then get the Nikon. The Yongnuo is a bit slower and noisier.
