    Hello from the United States! I am not a musician but the violin is such a beautifully sounding instrument that crosses many musical genres from classical to bluegrass. Enjoy your channel and maybe if I keep watching long enough you may influence me to give the violin a try.

    As a bow collector myself, this video was really entertaining, thank you!
    I was blown away by the very red-coloured bow at the beginning when you were holding up all six at once!! Then I saw it was the hair colour... haha. I have seen bow sticks of that bright colour believe it or not!

    Esther. Really nice to hear you play! I'm learning to play, and I bought a new bow recently. It made a massive difference! The purchase on the strings is much better and the control is also better, which I atttibute to the wood being more rigid than that on my previous bow. All of your bows here sound amazing: it's difficult to say which is better than any other. I suppose the handling is different, if they are of different weights and balances.

    My first favourite was the Burke bow, but then I've heard the Morizot and I liked it even better (maybe it's because you have it since a long time and are so used to play with it). Wonderful collection of bows, it shows that you enjoy playing with every one of them !

  • @shipsahoy1793

    My favorite was the Burke, rich and thick, a little different than the rest, so that sound seemed to edge out the others for me, but they all sounded pretty good. I think I liked the first one the least in terms of the actual recorded sound, but this is only one way of comparison. They are
    all pretty close; my opinion would probably change in a live situation, or if I was play testing the bows for me. This display is kind of reminiscent of saxophone mouthpieces, where the player sounds similar on every one he tries that he’s comfortable with lol You didn’t comment on the order of most to least manageable for you.. whenever I play a bow suitable to my liking and ability, I can’t tell much difference in that case, so the best one ends up being the least expensive and longest lasting and/or the most reliable of the bunch.

    Interesting comparison.... No contest... Morizot sounds best, expecially the focus and bass of the lower note in the double stops..(I bet you don't give that one away) . Anyway it looks great, octagonal too... ( almost as pretty as you, and nowhere near as pretty as my wife ) The carbon bows sound hollow to me, but come across well through UA-cam. Also I consider Noel Burke to be a great contempoary maker. Thanks for this clip I enjoyed it.

    I really liked the second bow because of the way it looks and the sounds, although I its hard to tell the difference of sounds videos so maybe it just sounded better because I liked they way it looked. what are you playing by the way? it sounds really nice 👌

    You make them all sound good! My personal favourites were the 2nd as it had a lot of energy, pulled a deeper sound and will probably mellow a bit to be really refined. The 3rd was responsive and nuanced. The first carbon fibre was a pleasant surprise (I’m not really a fan of the sound the carbon bows make even though they respond well) but this one sounded really clean. The other carbon fibre was messy, even though you played it well. The other bows were very good but to me, 2 and 3 sounded more exciting (in different ways). It’s such a personal thing and different bows work better with different violins. Anyway, really interesting to see this video. Thanks.

    Top bow is the Iranian Jacob . Super . The French bow has a good clear /raw sound and the Devil`s Trill would need some scratchy quality to make it sound right . The carbon fibre bow sounds very smooth but violins need to sound a bit nasty and harsh sometimes .

  • @milchpuder
    @milchpuder 4 роки тому

    To my ears: I can see why you use the 1st bow regularly. The sound is probably the best - very responsive and clear sound. The 3rd bow is very close in sound, probably indistinguishable. The 2nd bow sounded a little fuzzy and less articulate, and was bettered by your old bow? Wonder what you think. To my ears the 2nd carbon bow sounded more like a wooden bow with a more complex sound, although the 1st carbon bow does sound a bit cleaner.

    They're all good, but I thought the Morizot and the Fiddlerman were the standouts. The red-haired CF bow is interesting and IMHO merits a longer look.

  • @RelaxationMusic1611
    @RelaxationMusic1611 Рік тому

    2nd is very soft and gentle, 3rd is the best. And overall the french bows have a very nice sound. So I'd have this number 2 for soft pieces and number 3 for bright ones if I were you ) and I don't hear anything special in other 4 bows. The red hair one is the worst it sounds flat and empty

    I recognise the Burke bow! A great maker, and many of my friends have them. Did you have it made just for you or buy a secondhand one? He famously has a waiting list of about 3 years... which I find kind of unsettling. I would never wait 3 years just for a bow, and I think it's a little pretentious. I can personally make 10 bows in about 3 months and if I got more orders I would simply make more.
    It's almost like he thinks he's a world-renowned fashion designer and the waiting list adds to the romance of it all.
    Anyway, they're very good bows. Not outstanding, but very good. I would play on one from time to time if I came across a reasonably priced one and didn't have to wait :)
