Your parents are amazing. And Deb, if you're reading this, don't worry about the negative comments. Those are clearly coming from people who don't really watch and know Shannon. Because if they did, they'd only have positive things to say about her. You raised an amazing woman and we all thank you for that ❤
I always love hearing from Jim & Deb! I really admire how much they love and support you. It almost makes me tear up when Jim talks about you. When he reflected on how hard it must have been for you to be closeted for all of those years, it really displayed how deeply he cares about your feelings. And the little story about you running faster than everyone else on the soccer field and the emotions that stirred up for him? Totally tugged on my heartstrings. I have so much respect for the way your parents raised you and your sister to have strong morals and compassion for all. It reminds me a lot of the way my parents raised my siblings and I. I feel lucky to have been raised that way, and I love hearing about others who were shown genuine love and kindness while growing up (and beyond!) Thanks for sharing :)
This dynamic really reminds me of my parents. They divorced when I was two so I’ve never even seen them together but they’re good friends. They lived together while dad was saving money to move back to Canada, mum visits us in Canada and we’ll go on road trips to visit dad’s family all together. The only time they argue is if dad’s music is too loud for mum to focus on her K Dramas 😂
have been a fan since i was 13 (am 22 now), and your relationship with your mom made me want to come out to mine, which i did when i was 14 and i can say it was way easier cause i followed you and felt okay with it. deb, you’re an amazing mom, and even from the screen gives me so much warmth. i love you all, thank you for being such an inspiration.
I live in Lubbock, and even here, you would be surprised on how accepting people are here. I am a conservative, and I haven’t seen, or heard, any derogatory comments. I know there are people who aren’t as tolerant, but I am not around people like that Love the conversation
Shannon 🥹 You have the absolute cutest parents! 🤍 So sweet and heartwarming. As someone from Dallas who started watching you before coming out, and now being fully out and experiencing love and acceptance from my own parents, this truly hits home. It’s been such a journey, but there’s nothing better than being able to have open and honest conversations like this. Thank you for sharing this moment! ❤
Can we get more eps with Deb and Jim. I want to hear all about them as people, them growing up, life with you and your sister and the challenges they overcame as people and parents ❤
2025 is your year shannon!!! focus on you and how you can tackle the feelings you feel when you're alone and on your own schedule and no one else's. Once the fear is gone it is an amazing feeling!
I wish my parents would support me like your parents do! They are both so amazing, calm and sweet. Love listening to them. And I think it’s so cool that they are friends now and live together. I hope you‘ll do a part 3! Greetings from Germany 🤗
Shannon!! Thrilled to see your parents on the episode! Loved them in the last one and so much more deeply now! They are wonderful and such fun getting to know them better!! Always for you and behind you Shannon! ! Every blessing for the New Year and for the happiness we all wish for you, always!!
We love your parents ❤ Jim is a gem!! It was really nice to see him share the soccer story and his unconditional love for you! Being from TX, we don’t see this type of love often within the community so I’d love to see more of him! Deb is also amazing ❤ Love this podcast!
I love Deb and Jim so much! Shannon, you have incredible parents and episodes with them are some of my favorites! Thank you Deb and Jim for coming on the pod and inspiring more parents to be like y’all! ❤️ p.s. Jim, as much as everyone loves Deb, you’re pretty awesome too & I love hearing your perspectives as well! 🫶
the background/lighting in this is soooo good it really does feel like a family ep ♥️ also we all love queen deb but shoutout to jim too!!!! i hope they both know how much we like hearing from them :)
I’m so lucky to be super close with my parents and I came out to them 28 years ago. Holy shit! I just realized how long it’s been. This whole episode made me smile! I think I’m going to watch it with my parents for sentimental purposes. Also, Shannon and Becca: don’t listen to the haters or people who doubt your story. I’m living proof that you can have an extremely loving and respectful (yet painful) breakup in spite of loving one another SO much. We were together for 6 years and we broke up in 2011. We are like family to this day and I’m so lucky that her wife is not at all jealous and we all get along great. Happy New Year everyone! 🌈🌈🌈
Being alone for a while is a form of self-care and should be practiced by everyone after a break-up!~ experts say that 3 years would be ideal, but yeah, for some that is impossible~ but let's hope for the best!~You can do it Shannon!
I’m thankful for other Texans showing the world we aren’t all bad. I’m surrounded by amazing accepting Texans as well and as a 39 year old lesbian have only dealt with homophobia in my everyday life maybe twice. We still have a long ways to go, but it isn’t all A holes over here 😅 Happy new year 🎉
This was another great episode with your parents. And, if they're reading this, I know exactly what your dad was talking about with "Tea Room Trade" because one of my sociology professors recommended it to me for further studies that we didn't have time to fully explore in class. It's an interesting book. And Shannon, I totally get what you mean about wanting to feel more ownership over yourself. I'm not a SM influencer by any means, but I get the feeling of wanting to belong more to yourself. I think it's just really about self care physically and mentally. This thought process seems like it comes to everyone the older we get, like just learning to give more to yourself. Not in a selfish way, but just in a way where if you can't do something or be something to someone you don't make yourself feel guilty about it. I think this is a self preservation mechanism that kicks in when it needs to. ❤ And Miss Deb, Mr. Jim Shannon is a beautiful soul. I am so sorry that people say nasty things to her. There are just really unkind people in the world, but I thank God for people like you guys and Shannon, because it gives me some hope that kindness exists. I know what it's like to be bullied. It sucks, but my mom was always supportive and reminded me that the way those people treated me said something about THEIR character, not mine. Shannon always handles everything with strength and grace, and just know I'm always gonna root for Shannon.🙌🏽💜
Love this. I can related with the whole divorced parents and their living arrangement thing. My mom occupies my childhood house, my dad lives in a smaller 400 square foot or so "man cave" he built on the opposite side of the property, and my sister lives with her two boys in a tiny house in the middle of the property. (As the boys get older, there may be a home swap in the future.) I have considered building a tiny little cabin for when I visit. :)
❤️ your parents❣️& deb is always right. People need to be nice to you. Been following you for a long time and you’ve always been nice. You don’t deserve any hate and I know you get it but remember there are millions of people that love you💯💯💯 forget those ones that don’t💯💯💯❣️
Happy New Year Shannon! Hope you achieve everything you want to this year. Love your parents. And Deb at the end? So sweet 😊 My New Year’s resolution is to see you live in Toronto Mar 5, 2025! Halfway achieved…I have VIP tickets!
I love how your parents out lesbian-ed you and moved in with their ex 😂
Thanks for all of your sweet comments. It’s so great to get to hang out with my girls!❤

This! They're just tourists. We're residents.

Your dad is so precious and reminds me of my dad🤍

I also think your dad is swell! Great set of parents you’ve got here, I wish mine were more like this

“And they were roommates”
Why does that look so fkn cozy 😍

Love Jim and Deb! Your parents are so awesome and supportive I love it!
I love this. All parents need to see this whether they have children in the queer community or not.
I can not put in words how sweet this is! what a lovely family you are 🥹🫶
Always love when they join. Shows queer community there is hope in family.
What a nice and touching conversation Shannon!

My parents are divorced, and have not spoken (zero communication) for maaaaybe 10ish years? Seeing divorced folks be amicable is so healing.

it’s so crazy because i always thought you were deb’s twin, which you sort of are, but i also see so much of jim in you too!
