That drummer took this performance to another level. He was absolutely out of this world. Wonderful performance my man from East Nashville the awesome GT! 🎸
Couldn’t agree more. That groove was a mile wide and thick as molasses. Of course, Guthrie and Oz rode that wave beautifully. I idea who the bassist is but he laid it down as well
JERRY, now you know from the heading above it is Shawn Pelton playing drums (i love that NOLA funk rhythms, very inventive)& Andy Hess on bass(who has played with so many in so many situations)
me too, very tasty stuff, he does make it more fun than most...he kinda reminds me of the Meters & the Funky Meters drummers in the first # especially, ya know Zigaboo?
GT is on fire. Its awesome to hear his take on this tune. I absolutely love playing this one. Its a wide open palette for improvising and Guthrie just completely painted a masterpiece. Oz is great too. Wow!
These are my favorite contemporary guitar players, I am happy to see them together. It would be good to see more videos from this gig. I think these two are currently the masters of melodic guitar improvisations, it is the next generation of guitar players that goes beyond the fusion masters such as Robben Ford or John Scofield because of technical refinement. Oz Noy plays a bit more in the modal tradition and Guthrie Trapp plays more arpeggio chord based patterns. Oz sounds more mathematical and refined, Guthrie sounds more musical, whatever it means. No matter what they say during interviews, the roots of their playing is very intellectual, there is a lot of thought given to these lines. I think Oz is at his peak, while Guthrie could still improve by implementing more of the modal-based lines. So, my only comment is that not everything has to come "out of the chord" I always think of Kind of Blue, Flemenco Sketches and the solo by Cannondale Adderly, which is my favorite melodic modal solo (it's magic how he has improvised something out of nothing, in some sense). Joe Henderson can do it too, e.g,. in his Standard Joe album.
They both masters of playing chord tones but also playing a lot of “outside” stuff that sounds interesting and resolves! OZ plays some wild stuff that sounds wrong for a moment until you hear where it’s going
@@kane6529 yep you are so right. My drummer said you can play as wild as you want but always come back home. These guys are great at doing just that. Lol
When I first caught sight of this I wondered if Guthrie had considered sneeking off stage rather than follow Oz...woaa..not a bit of it..he grabs hold of it and goes beserk...like the drummer too
Oz has a beautiful way of playing blues tunes with incredible chops and NO emotion at all lmao. Like id rather watch this online than pay to go live and feel fucked over by the absolute lack of urge to want to dance or move haha. Scofield will always be the pinnacle for me, cause any of his projects he does for fun are fucking fun and funky and full of dancey energy. Obv not the Jazz trio and whatnot. Lile Oz and Guth here could of easily played the crowd into motion. Im not exactly sure why you wouldn't want to do that
Yes. Oz was awesome. Guthrie is a beast too but I think he fell back on some of his country staples here as he is probably not as familiar with the song. A great great player though.
@@FerrisFlyer Guthrie is great now but he will grow even more as the months turn into years. I like that he brought some nice influences from the South for us to hear up North.
But where’d Ray come in, other than OZ’s octaves early on? You guys are great guitar players, and you’re pissing your talent all over the stage in this video. JJZ…(°¿.°`)
what's wrong with wigs & hairpieces? they're on stage, it was commonplace years back in Nashville, Texas, LA - all over - Las Vegas - everywhere it's makes them look how they play! but the hat thing nowadays is beautiful.
As much as I like Guthrie. , This is an incredible example of what not to do. Oz can't differentiate between country and American music. Although both are American music, they are two different types.
Well, Oz fired a few generous salvos of whole tone scale: ) Following those with some blazing county chops won't hurt I guess...Both top-notch players.
Wow! Guthrie Trapp is one of the finest electric guitar players! What a gift!!!
A clinic in how a band should play with each other!!
Love how both Oz & Guthrie can play inside or outside at will.
Oz Noy and Guthrie Trapp! Burning in NYC! Sweet! Well done boys! More please!
These guys really have to do a monthly residency at TBE.

I was just admiring that he is playing so well that having the music on stage doesn't ruin it - such great energy, feel and pocket
Shawn Pelton is the drummer for the SNL House Band since 1992 ... there must be something about him having a steady major gig for 30+ years 😊
JERRY, now you know from the heading above it is Shawn Pelton playing drums (i love that NOLA funk rhythms, very inventive)& Andy Hess on bass(who has played with so many in so many situations)
Shawn & Andy are scheduled to play with Oz Noy & Tomo Fujita at the Bitter End Aug. 10 in the Village!!
Ladies and Gentlemen the great Shawn Pelton on drum!!
Fire!... Who does he tour with?
@@chipanderson428 Currently I’m not sure… but he’s toured with lots in his career. Huge sessions guy plus Saturday night live band for decades.
Guthrie is shredding that solo there. Very good. Thanks!
my main man Guthrie can go toe to toe with the best of him,,,what a bad ass
Wow….great drummer!
He’s Shawn Pelton, fantastic drummer!
He plays in the SNL house Band since 30 years
Guthrie Trapp is the King!
Fun watching this drummer!!!

Killer duo. give as much as you have. we kindly ask.
I was at this amazing show, hope you have more to post, thanks!
Sick guitar picking and stellar rhythm section!
2 fantastic guitarists! Wow!
Big props to Shawn and Andy! GT’s got his classic two Deluxe Reverbs for fly-date back line. That Two Rock sounds killer! Oz never disappoints!
Great sound even better energy. Feel good music that would brighten up anyones day. Love this!
Thrilling awesomeness from everyone up there
Counting on you to get him back to NYC!!
Sound awesome two killer guitarist

The TONES and touch are unbelievable!!!
Thank you for posting this!!! These guys were cooking with gas.
Holy crap! Extraordinary talent!
❤mighty mighty fine
Wow - thanks for sharing!
Drummer ❤❤❤
That kicked ass :)
Who is the bass player?
I saw him with Larry Carlton last winter and loved his playing😊
I’d like to know as well. I seen him on Adam levy video and the tube grind sound he had going was pleasure to the ears
His name is Andy Hess. He’s played with the Black Crowes and Gov’t Mule, among many others. A real pro!
@@jakollee Andy Hess, playing at clubs & with the greats since he was very young like I think 11?
At least Oz quoted the melody.
gt seems to be doing hot licks video licks over everything
Where's more of this!
Dream team over there
OZ plays the End often & always mixes it up with so many greats around these days, our good fortune.
@Richard Robbins - I was hoping you'd have more videos from this show to post - no luck?
Rich, you have a lot more & will as well, yes?
Yes!!
Sounds like you guys have your scales and chord shapes down really really good. Lol rock on! Drummer is damn goodddddd

Aw man, was there a vanishingly rare Andy Hess bass solo about to happen at the end there?
Andy's life is quite something, interview on Everything Guitar...
Dang, GT!
holy moly

Guthrie slays..
Wow
PELTON!
What guitar is GT playing? Doesn’t look like the ones on his lessons
I think it's a Danocaster.
Smokin'.
gt takes over that stage like he was born in nyc. yeah
aight!!!!!!!
Guys in the front row almost start feeling it.. 😂
learning from the best around these days...
Bruh played all the notes.

Don't get me wrong these guys are great great players/ but does the band struggle to keep the gurv when Guthrie cranks up??and ( yes he's amazing)
New Yorkers probably be like, this music sucks let's go see a play 😂
Not this New Yorker!!
Yeah, that's why it was sold out.
NYers leave music for a play??? many who go to plays are also tourists, but they come to music venues also for sure, this is a MUSIC CITY too...
show em how its done Guthrie

Why isn’t anyone dancing??
musicians learning what to add to their brains, we're not in Texas here, but i'm sure there is somewhere in the City...
to many notes maybe but who cares, this was awesome!
Hate to say it but Guthrie just gets better and better. Still waiting’ to see that bald head.

Ridiculous!😅

I don’t see the problem with injecting a little country flavor into a Ray Charles tune, I thoroughly enjoyed this. But that’s just MO.
