I would urge anyone who hadn't yet done so to watch Mackenzie Crook in the detectorists. It is far and away the greatest piece of television I have ever seen. Only three series were made and I miss them so much.

I couldn't agree more, Peter. I think I have watched them so many times now, I know the whole script. I am so, so happy that Mackenzie has created Worzel in a similar sort of vain. :)

@@nicevennett1312 I really am a bit of an anorak and people must be fed up of me trying to persuade them to watch it. I genuinly do think that it is the best TV programme ever written and probably has the greatest throw away line ever, when Lance is worried about using a hypnotherapist in case he acts like Elvis and when he is asked round for fish and chips on the boat he lifts up his collar and says 'Thank you very much.' Absolute genius. 😊

@@peterreed1805 Ah, I love that bit. That whole scene - sinking through to the flat below, the parasol... Just so clever. And daft.
There is a character round my neck of the woods here who walks with her dog, who notoriously gets into some trouble when I'm about, and she calls her, 'stupid, clumsy, lovely animal' in exactly the same way as Larry, and I can never talk to her without trying not to giggle! I love Larry and his missing invisible dogs. :)

I can understand why Mackenzie seems to stay far away from social media, and I think it probably contributes just a tiny bit to him being the beautiful soul he is, but my goodness, do I wish I could shower him with praise over this. The most beautifully shot, gentle, funny, poignant, magical creation, for which I hope he is so proud and realises how loved this is and how treasured it will be. A quiet genius, and they are the very best type of genius.

I've just watched Worzel Gummidge as my Fiancé had to work long hours over Christmas and I wanted to watch them together and we were both mesmerised by the beauty and warmth that Mackenzie Crook has brought to the stories. They are funny, poignant and the characters are brilliantly thought out. I hope that they make more as they genuinly have been the best thing on TV over Christmas. Mackenzie Crook is a genius.

Mackenzie seems nervous in most interviews and this one in no different.
I think it's down to the fact he's humble and normal unlike most of today's fake Television and movie Stars.

Hope he will make a series. As a child I LOVED the Pertwee version, so I was biased towards it, however, Mackenzie Crooks version was superb, a different take, a bit more serious, slightly less slapstick. Michael Palin was superb as the Green Man too.
