The problem is they are asking Java too deep for tester that they actually don't required ,as testers are mostly non tech background... It's hard to crack Java interview due to intense programing questions

If your web service doesn't have any UI or interactive elements,go for API testing. If it has elements like images,titles etc which are interactive then use selenium. Using Java is optional, selenium supports various languages
2nd point is at all required when u have good knowledge,if u hav good knowledge then they will hire u

Yes you can, the concepts matter. I'm guessing she is saying java cuz most of the places where I have seen selenium used with Java and not python.
