That character named Talin Warhaft who you said is weirdly ugly is modeled off of one of the developers named Kenneth Mayfield. I actually personally know Ken, he works as an animation Instructor now. so I got a good laugh out of you calling him weirdly ugly.

The reason Tharn can’t throw the Staff into the ocean is because it’s tied to the essence of the land so it can’t be taken away from Tamriel. It’s explained in Volume 9 or 10 of "The Real Barenziah".
EDIT: Oh yeah, about Talin. The player character is NOT the same Talin Warhaft that appeared in the original floppy disk version of Arena. But supplemental material (and one of the questions you can get during character creation) mention "Talin" as a father figure or directly the father of the player character. Still, the manual calls the player character Talin and there’s that one official gameplay screenshot where the character (a Breton man) is named Talin. (But there are many screenshots with different characters all around Arena including in the manual)
The reason this is the case is because Arena is a schizophrenic game that went from an actual arena fighting game to a party based rpg to a single character rpg and so many things changed across all these interactions and that leads to inconsistencies, hence the two Talins.
The easiest way to reconcile both accounts is to say that the Player Character (also hinted at to be a Breton and a Spellsword) is Talin jr.

He technically isn’t, but what would be his lair (red mountain) does have a nice bit of hindsight with the dungeon’s name. It had become so synonymous with the man himself that its named after him.

Excellent video. I've been trying off and on for years to play this game as deeply as I've played Morrowind and Skyrim. To this day, I've still not made it out of the first dungeon. I'm sure the game is awesome.

I grew up on Morrowind for original Xbox. I love old and new games a like but even for me it's hard to get into arena. I tried it a couple times.. Never tried daggerfall though. Idk how similiar in gameplay they are.

    • @Grecks1961
      @Grecks1961 Рік тому +12

Daggerfall is quite similar game playwise, but its just a bit better in every category. Especially with the Unity engine mod, Daggerfall was surprisingly easy to get into for me even as someone who started with Skyrim and still plays it the most. Really would recommend the unity mod, makes it WAY easier to play, also no more DOS.

I love daggerfall and have played it here and there for the last 15 years. I played through Arena once but wasn't really a fan, it felt much more dated and clunky than daggerfall. I'd recommend trying daggerfall especially now that the unity port is out, which makes the game more accessible and adds mod support

Most locations in Arena have gained new pedigree in the lore which I've always enjoyed, such as Labyrinthian becoming a Dragon Cult city or the Crypt of Hearts which housed some kind of Cthulu war god. I think ESO could've worked as an Arena remake instead because ESO takes full advantage of Arena with many of the same dungeons, and it's allowed about them wizards and Tharns. At least the base game is. Maybe we'll get an ESO II that covers Arena's events once they inevitably cover the entirety of Tamriel's overland. Another place to see Arena's (new) lore is through the Real Barenziah books which looks more into Jagar Tharn's character and a lot of the background work to get the Eternal Champion where they needed to go.

If its worth it. I say yes, look past the outdated controls its actually really fun and since its free i dont see a single reason not to play it. Although the game doesnt tell you at all what to do and where to go so youll have to figure that out yourself or look up a guide online. Also i advice to go into the game files and making a copy of your save file after every session takes 2 minutes if you know where to look and could save you. I wish id known that when i first played it.

Story wise, the part of Arena that has aged the worst is the lack of explanation for why when Tharn went to hide the staff of chaos piece in Red Mountain, he didn't find Dagoth Ur waiting for him like "what a fool you are". I know some people say that Red Mountains massive and Dagoth Ur wasn't guarding all of it but let's be real, Dagoth Ur owned Red Mountain for eras (plural) and there was only a 39 year gap between Arena and Morrowind, do you really think he didn't have it all quarantined while he was rebuilding the Numidium?

There are many quests for you to do, mostly from Guild factions in each province, including finding artifacts that we'd see in later games, such as The Paladin's Blade Chrysamere or Auriel's Bow/Shield.

I have a headcannon surrounding the Protagonist around Arena, Daggerfall and Skyrim and its that The Eternal Champion and the Agent/The Hero of Daggerfall is the same person and his name(I think its a he) is Maximus Cullen though he has an Imperial Name he is actually a Nord. His decendant is Agsil Cullen aka The Last Dragonborn
PS:These are what i did call my characters in those games i originally wanted Maximus as an Imperial but i sadley found out there wasnt any Imperial Choices in Arena or Daggerfall so i had to make him a Nord as for Agsil, Agsil means Burning Heart in the Dragon Language and it is part of his of his character as he has a heart and courage that burns brighter than any mortal seen not only in the history of Tamriel but all of Nirn

I did something somewhat similar with my Breton characters, except they're of a bloodline.
Arena and Daggerfall character are the same woman, since there's an implication that the Eternal Champion and the Hero of Daggerfall could be the same person considering the Hero of Daggerfall already has implied rapport with the Emperor.
My Morrowind and Oblivion Bretons are both the daughters of my Arena/Daggerfall Breton.
My Breton in Battlespire is the brother of my Arena/Daggerfall Breton.
My Skyrim Breton is naturally a descendant and direct great-granddaughter or great-great granddaughter of my Oblivion Breton, as well as the niece of my Breton from Blades.
And naturally, the earliest of that bloodline as of now is my Breton in ESO.
